With the Alomomola PARALIZED by Fulgora’s punch, the Zeraora lifts up the huge fish and holds it over his head as if saying ”Look what I caught!” It makes Mars chuckle, shaking his head before throwing an empty pokéball at their recent capture.

”You’ll end up smelling like fish if you do that.” He says to his pokémon with a smirk, and the Zeraora approaches to give him the pokéball… and a fist bump while at it.

In response to Alexei’s comment, Mars smirks, looking up at the dragon and bird.

”Don’t worry about it, Fulgora is not exactly gentle either.”

As if to prove this, the Zeraora flashes sharp fangs at the gym leader.

But, a Seel comes out of the water then, and instead of ordering his pokémon to attack it, Mars kneels, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

“Speaking of which, does your feline ever give you trouble?” he inquired curiously.

He’d had a conversation with a little miss recently (Eris Halla) and heard her input on how to handle the ‘wild cat’, now he wanted to ask Mars how he handled taking care of the aptly-named ‘Fulgora’ that had finished batting the previous Pokémon around.

And then flashed their fangs his way.

“Mine’s just like… running wild everywhere, wrecking and scratching up trees. It’s… bad. Like, I’ve had to constantly keep mine in their Pokéball because they would destroy a lot of shit and dig holes. A cat, digging holes? Yeah it’s happened to me,” he said with an exasperated sigh.

“Do you think they like catnip?!”

Either way, this time it was the Salamence who came screaming down from the skies at the sight of a Totodile who’d dared so much to peek above the surface of the water, a sudden Thunder Fang attack catching it off-guard.

A squeal came from the Totodile as it attempted to lash back with an Ice Fang, but a second thunder Fang held it tight, before chucking it right in Alexei’s direction like a—

“Geez, man, what the hell!” he exclaimed as he quickly chucked another Pokéball at the incoming Totodile before it smacked head-on and knocked him down.

As Alexei talks, Fulgora tilts his head, watching the gym leader with wild yellow eyes and twitching his whiskers. Mars himself chuckles at the anecdotes, reaching to pet the soft tuft of white fur at the top of the feline’s head. In response, the Zeraora wags his tail as if annoyed by it, and yet there’s the ever so gentle sound of his purring.

”Ha! Yeah, digging happens, but cats are not like dogs, Alex… They like to do their own thing and you need to give them their space. They’ll also need to sharpen their claws, so yeah, unless you give them something better to scratch, they’ll probably go for your trees and furniture.”

Fulgora’s destructive tendencies are particularly notorious, as should be made obvious by the way the Zeraora is soon distracted by the sight of a Venonat – watching it for a long moment before Mars smirks and gives him the “go ahead” to go after the fuzzy bug.

”All cats are different, some like some things and some don’t. Fulgora and I got along right away, but he also destroyed one of my favourite couches on his very first day at my penthouse. You can teach them not to do things like those.” He laughs at the memory, watching how the Venonat tries to use its STUN SPORE in an attempt to get away from the feline. To no avail, of course, for the bug soon finds itself being pounced on by flaming claws (FIRE PUNCH). After rolling in the sand a couple of times, Fulgora completely immobilises his prey.

See, there was a reason why Alexei despised felines—well, the Purrloin line specifically. One of the nasty little shits had scratched him and very nearly caused him to miss his scheduled departure out of Unova because who knew there weren’t any free medical facilities around the place…

Gross.

“Definitely going to get a new scratching post, got it,” he nodded—since the Pokémon Mars had also had similar behavioral patterns with his own cat, so a scratching post was in order.

“You have any suggestions for a durable scratching post?” he asked the other—since he knew Mars had like, quite literally the single largest collection of Meowth he was aware of, he figured he could get the best recommendations from him.

It didn’t take too long for a Vespiquen to show up and suddenly lash out in their direction with an Air Slash attack—and this time a distinctly avian screeching noise came in to save Alexei from being shoved back by the territorial Pokémon’s attack.

“The hell, I didn’t even see that one!” he exclaimed as the Braviary charged towards the Vespiquen with an Aerial Ace attack. The two Pokémon traded blows, each unleashing their own respective Flying-type attacks; but it was the Braviary’s Sky Drop that brought the tussle to an end—

And another Pokéball saved the Vespiquen from ending up as a smudge mark on the ground.

A Luxury Ball is gently tossed towards the Venonat, quite literally making it vanish right from between the Zeraora’s paws. As should only be expected, Fulgora doesn’t seem too happy with this, his tail swaying, but when Mars whistles to call his attention to a nearby Mothim, he’s quickly distracted from his own annoyance.

”I’ll get my assistant to link you a few options, she’s the one who picked out the ones for my Meowth.”

Fulgora looks up at the Mothim that flies a few metres off the ground, readying himself, and in a way only a large feline can, he jumps up high in the air – PLASMA FISTS snatching the Mothim right from the skies.

It’s quite the sight.

“Thank you—no, really, thank you,” he remarked as he watched the thunder cat go after a Mothim, fists literally swinging.

“…do they like catnip?” he followed up a few moments afterward. “Or does it make them go crazier?”

Normally, he knew that catnip worked on felines most of the time; but… since this was an unusual Pokémon, who knew if it was going to drive them bonkers even more.

He thought he saw something pink moving around the area, was it a Shellos—but the two eyes in the sky paid it no heed.

Mars chucks a pokéball at the fallen Mothim before Fulgora can do anymore damage, and although the Zeraora flicks his ears back in displeasure, he brings it back to its trainer before going to sit by the water.

”My favourite Persian, Dollar, doesn’t react to it at all, for example. Fulgora, though…”

He looks at the Electric type and the way Fulgora curiously watches the water, taking a long moment before snatching a Gorebyss from among the rocks.

”Huh. Interesting. Those are usually deep sea pokémon. Oh yeah… Catnip makes him act up.” There’s a chuckle at that.

Seeing as Mars was the expert here when it came to handling feline Pokémon, he would yield to the other’s knowledge about their respective behavior.

Yes, Alexei was busy taking mental notes about catnip and how it would affect felines—despite the fact that he didn’t have many in the way of cat Pokémon with some exceptions—his own thunder cat being one of the few exceptions to the rule.

“Oh, oh dear,” he remarked as he took note of the fact. Since his cat and Mars’s were cut from similar cloth, he wondered if the same would happen if he dared give his own thunder feline some catnip.

“Hmm, wonder if mine would react with the same?” he said—more to himself.

There was an Araquanid skittering along the surface of the water, but the two avians in the sky ignored it—letting it live another day.

“Is there a specific brand of catnip you used? Or is it like, the be-all, end-all—any catnip makes them act up?”

”It’s less about brands and more about types, in my opinion… There’s different species of it, and you also can buy it in different forms – fresh, dry, as a spray, all of that.”

While Zeraora is busy with the Gorebyss, he calls out another of his pokémon to deal with the nearby annoyance that is a Dustox with its GUST. His Starmie is quick to SCALD the bug with a precisely-aimed beam of extremely hot water, causing a burn that leaves the Dustox weakly fluttering down to the ground.

He was truly lost when it came to dealing with felines—to be honest he mostly dealt with feathered children most of the time, so… he would defer to Mars’s expertise.

“Guess it’s time for me to try one of each,” he chuckled with an embarrassed grin on his face as this time, something familiar from home bounded out, attracted by the loud racket that Mars’s feline was causing.

Right then and there a loud draconic screeching came from the sky, before a powerful blast of Flamethrower came raining down on the Karrablast without mercy.

“You might want to take it easy!” he shouted at the Salamence, who cackled as the Karrablast attempted to throw its entire body skywards in a Double Edge attack—only to end up missing completely.

A second blast of Flamethrower repelled it back to the ground, before a red beam of light attempted to suck the scorched Bug-type into its depths.
