Martín del Mar is a man who cares quite a lot for aesthetics, that much is no secret. He had plenty of water type pokémon, but that fact doesn’t also mean that he’s equally fond of all of them. Alexei Ivanov has a point: Seismitoad are horrible creatures.

”Ha. I have one, but none taken… They do look like mega Swampert’s ugly cousin” And Mars isn’t even a fan of mega evolved Swampert, but those are undeniably much better than this. If anything, it reminds him of a conversation he and ana fell had recently about ugly pokémon. Drapion is still his top pick, but Seismitoad is up there without a question.

Pineco, on the other hand, has a pretty harmless, unremarkable appearance… or so Mars thinks when spotting one nearby. He stares at the pokémon for a solid minute before calling to his Zeraora’s attention, and once he does, all he does is whistle…

Fulgora knows what to do, of course, and the FIRE PUNCH that hits the Pineco is swift and painful.

While the other dealt with the living pine cone, the two eyes in the sky spotted a teensy little Wurmple—but decided to spare its little life from being turned into bug food for the day.

Back down on the ground…

“I can agree with you, Swampert—hell, it’s Mega form looks loads better than that!” he nodded fervently. Why did Tympole have to evolve into something that looked like—

That?!

Anyway, at least the both of them mutually agreed that Seismitoad weren’t… really blessed in the Pokémon aesthetic department.

“Honestly, sometimes I question whatever creation deities were thinking with some of the Pokémon that exist. Wouldn’t you agree with me on that? Ugly toad over there for one,” he added with a chuckle.

Being that he has heavily considered collecting all pokémon, perhaps some would expect Mars to be the sort of person who talks about loving all living creatures, harmony, and blah blah blah. Well… Not quite! Sure, he’d run that whole spiel if being interviewed or speaking publicly, but the fact of the matter is that it’s only natural to have preferences, isn’t it?

“Yeah, there has to be someone… but djinni forbid I don’t want to be that person,” he added with a chuckle.

It didn’t take too long for something to catch his attention—a low-flying Wingull that was meandering slowly towards the water. Before he could even blink, a loud roar shook the skies above and a shadow came swooping down, accompanied by the crackle of electricity—

The Wingull let out a surprised shriek and tried to swat the Salamence back with a Wing Attack but the draconid’s Thunder Fang was faster, humming with a surge as the wings of the avian were bitten, before being literally tossed high into the sky—

“Did you really have to chuck it that high?” he squinted at the Salamence, before the surprised, shocked, hell—stunned Wingull came crashing down.

Before it could meet a nasty death on the ground he’d thrown another Pokéball to save it from certain ruin.

At least Mike and the rest of the reverse-harem would have a Wingull to spoil the fuck out of now!

It occurs to him then that they have been here for a couple of hours now, and that with the way his schedule is, it won’t be long until his alarm rings telling him it’s time to go to his next appointment. But, until that moment comes, he can enjoy things like these: simply chatting by the water… while catching pokémon for both his own collection and Team Rocket.

While the other’s preoccupied with a—it was definitely one of the newer Pokémon he’d seen around (not as common as he thought they would be, it had to be from Galar or someplace) his mind did a backtrack…

Did he, or didn’t he, already have a Scatterbug?

Apparently, a quick check through his PokéGear revealed that he, surprisingly, didn’t have one… and so therefore he had to correct this.

“Well, what’d you know, I don’t have this one…” he said, from out of nowhere—as this time a sudden flurry of Aerial Ace dispelled the String Shot that the Scatterbug had aimed skyward.

Another Aerial Ace does the job of subduing the Bug-type, and he throws an empty Pokéball not too long afterward.

In this pokémon world, technology has come really far, or at least far enough for Mars to have an app in his phone that’s directly connected to the Rotomi network.

A few moments of scrolling are all it takes for him to know what he’s missing and what he has whenever his memory fails to remember all of his pokémon (even if it apparently can remember Unown Report entries to damn perfection). He apparently doesn’t have an extra Wurmple, so he signals for his Zeraora to go deal with one that sits on a nearby tree.

While the feline does this, Mars notices that apparently he doesn’t have any Butterfree-line pokémon. Interesting.

The sight of the Blipbug makes him do a double-take—while he’s sure he already has a Dottler somewhere, he knows that there’s someone out there ~~John Sullivan~~ who would appreciate the Blipbug since the other practically hoarded Orbeetle like how he hoarded Toucannon.

Before he could say anything else, though, a sudden Aerial Ace from the Braviary comes crashing down just as the Blipbug had tried to launch its dinky little body skywards—in a Struggle Bug attempt.

He couldn’t help but chuckle as another Aerial Ace knocked the Blipbug down and straight into the beam of an empty Pokéball he’d thrown skyward to catch it before it hit the ground.

A notification on his phone tells him all he needs to know: he’s out of time. Sadly, Mars’ schedule is as packed as ever, and moments to just sit around and catch pokémon are actually all rare.

With a sigh, he stands, calling back to the Starmie, and after smoothing down his shirt, his attention turns to Alexei Ivanov.

”Looks like I have to get going. It was good to see you, Alexei.”

While he’s busy saying his goodbyes to the gym leader, Fulgora is distracted by the appearance of another flying bug: a Venomoth, this time. The feline jumps towards it, playfully attempting to catch it, but hunter as he is, his strength truly is to be feared.

And for the last catch of the day—

A loud draconid screeching from the sky cuts him off from the other.

Just as the Froakie was about ready to throw a Hydro Pump in Alexei’s own direction, drenching him from head to toe the Salamence was much faster, coming in with a snapping crackle of electrified Thunder Fang, catching the Water-type right in its jaws.

Instead, the Water-type’s attack went rocketing off wildly into the air, cascading back down in a gentle rain as a second Thunder Fang rang through the space, the Salamence shaking the Froakie like a squeaky toy.

A few moments later, the Froakie was yeeted from a considerable height—but one last Pokéball thrown skyward to save it from becoming a squashed pancake on the ground.
