Unevolved, evolved, mid-stage evolutions, all of it. Mars keeps detailed inventory of the pokémon he calls his own, and he knows well which ones are missing from his collection. Other than things that are all too unlikely to obtain, like legendary pokémon, what he’s missing is simple things like–…

He pointed out at the other… wait a second, that was a—wasn’t this a deep-sea dweller Pokémon, coming chasing right after the Piplup?

There were two pairs of beady eyes squinting down at the Water-type, but without any signal from their human companion down on the ground, the Salamence and the Braviary remained where they were, (most likely) shit-talking Alexei while they waited for any further word.

“I can get it for you, if you don’t have one already,” he offered.

What’s a Huntail doing out at the beach, instead of staying in the ocean’s depths? Sights like those are always intriguing, but the likely answer is that it may have gotten caught in a fishing net and then found itself lost, hungry, and hunting for any suitable prey. Meaning that even if Mars were to want it, it’s probably not even in good condition.

That much is true, and it’s how he has caught a lot of his water types – especially the fish-like ones.

Just as he finds himself thinking of this, something else seems to catch the Zeraora’s attention, and before Mars can even see what it is, the electric feline is already pouncing…

There’s SPARKS, but they have little effect on Fulgora, and it doesn’t take long for him to grab the Charjabug with flaming paws (FIRE PUNCH) and a triumphant expression.

He caught sight of a Charjabug—however the strange feline had beaten him to the chase. For now.

For the moment, at least.

“How many of those are you looking for?” he inquired, asking once the other had caught the Charjabug. “If we meet anymore, can I grab one? It’s for a friend who’s crazy about them.”

Clearly, it was for Zac Ramsay. Who knew how many of this particular Pokémon he already had.

(It was like him and his Pikipek army…)

A Dustox came flying by, but he paid it no heed. The two pairs of eyes flying above them paid the Bug-type no heed, either. There wasn’t any signal from Alexei to come screaming down from the sky and attack, so…

It’s not like Mars had given his Zeraora the order to go after the Charjabug, so when Alexei asks how many more he intends to catch, the banker can do no more than raise a brow. ”Hmm…” As if on perfect cue, the feline brings the bug over to him, and he presses a Luxury Ball against its unconscious body.

What he is sure of, however, is that he’s missing a Squirtle in his collection despite having two Wartortles and a very much adored Blastoise, so when he sees one swim up to the beach, he’s quick to act. ”Hesione.”

The Starmie CONFUSES the wild water type, causing it to hurt itself when attempting to retaliate. What comes next is an all too cold BEAM OF ICE on Hesione’s part.

Anyway, a Squirtle caught his eye, but he already had a Blastoise of his own, so—instead, a Wimpod was skittering away, back towards the water.

Before he could even blink, a sudden blur came screaming down from the sky, the Salamence attacking with a Thunder Fang and trying to fly off with the thing before it made an escape into the water…

…and it instead chose violence as it began to Struggle like the Bug that it was, thrashing within the draconid’s mouth. Yikes.

“Oh, hell…” he said with a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose, before watching as the Wimpod continued to Struggle, wiggling its Buggy body.

Another Thunder Fang put a stop to that, however.

And then the Bug-type was dropped, thankfully Alexei was fast enough to chuck an empty Pokéball before it landed on his head.

Thankfully, Zeraora are known for their speed, and in the blink of an eye, the feline jumps forward and releases a powerful DISCHARGE of electricity. Too far, though.

“Always coming out with these wacky flavors and stuff… last one I saw that publicly released was like, some kinda ‘after dark’ soda. The eighteen plus kind that’s not available to kids,” he added with a laugh.

As the cat zoomed off to catch a Seaking, he thought he had the feeling that he was being watched… observed, more like.

However, none of his aerial bodyguards came screaming down on whatever was out to get his ass, so maybe he was just imagining things…?

Little did he know that there was a Cascoon lurking somewhere in the undergrowth.

In the middle of both discussing Charja-Cola flavours with Alexei Ivanov and laughing at the antics of one of his favourite cats, a Cutiefly, of all things, lands on Mars’ shoulder as if seeing no threat in him.

Mars glances at it, wondering, his mind pulled towards distant memories. For, while he himself has never had a particular interest for Fairy types, there was once someone in his life who did – someone who was incredibly important to him.

It’s the memory of this person that causes him to gently scratch the Bee Fly Pokémon’s head, smiling faintly as it flutters its pearlescent wings.

If he was being honest, the scent of it reminded him of menthol, but that was neither here nor there.

“Aww, cute,” he remarked as he saw the tiniest Pokémon alive, a Cutiefly, approach the other man without even attacking.

“They know, you know,” he remarked, tilting his head in the direction of the minuscule Pokémon. “They can tell when someone’s got good intentions.”
