It was almost like the Shedinja had been missed—mostly because it was a tiny little ghost of its former self (heh), but the words that Mars offered to him for advice gave him some consolation.

“Thanks for the vote of confidence. No, really—I’m going to need as much of it when I do ‘unleash the Kraken’, so to speak,” he added with a chuckle.

He knew that his own feline’s behavior was comparable to an eldritch monster, the way it would raise hell and start yowling incessantly. He would just have to be firmer when it came to handling the danged thing, after all.

A pinpoint of flame, and a loud shrieking noise had the Salamence come crashing down, raining down ~~hellfire~~ a peppered stream of Flamethrower at the Shedinja who had tried to Absorb some of the draconid’s health.

Another burst of flames chased after the unsuccessful attempt, who this time tried to use Shadow Sneak but ended up getting burned to nearly a crisp instead.

An empty Pokéball is thrown, to spare the Shedinja from further grief.

Just as he says this, Fulgora looks towards him and meows, causing Mars to stand and brush the sand off his clothes before approaching the spot near the water where the Zeraora “hunts.”

The Zeraora takes this as permission to PARALYZE this fish too, pokéballs being thrown towards it and the Lumineon before Mars gives Fulgora a fist bump.

He was mentally taking notes at Mars’s advice, because obviously he deferred his own know-how to the other especially when it came to handling rambunctious felines. That was something way out of his scope, because he mostly dealt with feathered children… most of the time.

Before he could remark further, a loud scuttling noise drew his attention, and what emerged from the bushes was something that made him guffaw so hard.

“Oh, no,” was all he could say before the Salamence wrought down another burst of ~~hellfire~~ Flamethrower at the Durant as it rocketed forward with Agility.

Shit, wait, since when did ants like that move so fast?!

A sudden Biting gesture came from the loud clicking mandibles, but the Salamence was faster than that—another peppered blast of flames came raining down, and before it could be burned alive another Pokéball was thrown, if but to spare the Durant from death by ~~hell~~ dragon fire.

While Alexei dealt with his Salamence’s sudden urge to make a chew toy out of a wild Durant, Mars sat on the sand and enjoyed the warmth of the sunlight.

His Zeraora also sat nearby, but it was soon enough that his attention was drawn towards a curious little Marill that approached. For a second, Mars thought this pokémon would too end up as no more than a chew toy, but instead Fulgora played with its round and bouncy tail as most cats would.

It wouldn’t take long for him to turn away from the Salamence spectacle (the previously-mentioned death by ~~hell~~ dragon fire can of whup-ass administered to a Durant) for him to notice that there was something that had been tilted sideways not too far from where he stood.

Wait… why wasn’t it moving…?

“Oh, crap,” he muttered as he quickly approached—and just as the Salamence was about to attack with a Thunder Fang he held his hand out.

“No, wait. Stop,” he said next as he turned the… tilted-over thing that had fallen sideways face up…

…and was met with a face full of tentacles.

“WHA!” he yelped, as the shell squirmed into life, revealing an Omanyte. Wait, an Omanyte?!

This was one of the Pokémon he didn’t have yet!

The tentacles waved vaguely in mid-air, before he realized that the… fossil Pokémon was pointing at the puddle of water he’d very nearly stepped on.

“Wha—oh, I see,” he remarked as he moved the Omanyte towards the small puddle, tentacle-side down so the Pokémon could rehydrate themselves. Slowly, surely, the pasty color returned to a healthier shade of blue…

“Well, there you go.”

“Nah, he’s just a little… overeager,” he said with a laugh as the Salamence turned to them and made a face—specifically in Alexei’s direction before taking off back into the skies with another huff.

“Sorry!” he called out to the retreating speck, definitely going back up to join the Braviary so that they could (most likely) talk shit about him, in their strange PokéSpeak that only they understood.

He thought he saw something darting through the tree line, and he was right—however the Zeraora gets there first, and he turned his attention to the banks again.

Was there something squirming in the mud…?

Nah, he must’ve been seeing things.

“And I thought you fancied Water-types. What’s with the sudden switch?” he teased the other man.

A light laugh escapes him when watching the Salamence make a face and fly away after hearing Alexei’s comment. This sound soon fading into a smirk as Mars reaches to pet the Zeraora that now sits by his side, happily enjoying the treats offered to him.

”Water and Psychic, but Scyther can be useful pokémon, and I don’t mind branching out when that’s the case.” He shrugs, the explanation being easily given, but then again, at this point perhaps he’s more of a collector than a specialist.

Before them, a Frogadier jumps into sight, and with a short whistling sound, his Starmie is commanded to use its POWER GEM against it. It jumps again, but a THUNDER WAVE soon paralyses it.

Ooh, that was nice to know—a secondary type.

If he was being honest with himself, anything that had wings and could fly was definitely on the ‘I want this’ little greedy list he kept to himself.

(But let’s not talk about the entire aviary that had nothing but Pikipek-line Pokémon living in them, because that was something else in and on itself entirely.)

“Are you missing anything from either type?” he inquired curiously. He knew that the Water-type was the single-largest Typing that existed, moreso than Normal (and Flying) with its proliferation just about anywhere.

While the other tidied up with a Frogadier, something—sparkling?!

Caught his attention!

He’d gotten so excited he forgot to check if this Combee was a female, but either way, a singular screeching noise from up above warned everyone nearby to get the hell out of the way as the Salamence came raining down with a concentrated, controlled burst of Flamethrower just as the Combee released a sickening Sweet Scent to lure more Pokémon their way.

Oh, great.

He didn’t really need to yell at his Salamence to watch the flame; instead the Combee retaliated with the tiniest Gust. How cute.

Another Flamethrower burst did the sparkling Combee in, and Alexei flung another Pokéball at it.

“Shit. That was shiny!” he exclaimed.
