What were his intentions with Summer Atreides? Their relationship had started off rocky, flatlined, and had eventually turned into something more of a fling in his mind. But now, with her being so vulnerable, burying her head into his chest and laying bare her sorrows… Barnaby was unsure. Did she actually want something more out of their company than just the physical?

Barnaby hesitated for just a moment as she embraced him, unsure of the sudden intimacy, but soon reciprocated the gesture. His arms wrapped around her, pulling her close.

“I don’t know what you’ve been through in your life… but you don’t deserve loneliness, Summer.” He said softly, earnestly.

“If you’re scared of being hurt, just hide your heart away. Enjoy the company without the pain. You’ll never be let down again.”

Soon enough, Summer's cries and sniffles disappeared. She calmed down, enough to push herself away from Barnaby's chest and arms and wipe away the tears that had smeared across her face.

No more. She was Summer Prescott. She didn't have time to wallow like this.

"I'm sorry for doing such a thing, Barnaby. Especially when we were both here just to enjoy a festival."

Like that, a flip of a switch, Summer buried away those feelings, perhaps hiding away her heart as he had suggested. Offering her hand daintily, she expected him to take it and lead like a gentleman back to the crowd.

"Shall we finish our endeavors?"

Ideally, though, in Barnaby's mind one should have the restraint to not allow their emotions to become so tumultuous that they spill over in such a way.

Summer just needed practice. She had his advice now - but would she heed it?

Time would tell.

It seemed, at least for now, she was recovering from her outburst. Tears were wiped away, kimono straightened, hair tampered down into a presentable coiffure. She offered her hand, and Barnaby took it gladly.
