A deep breath parts Izzy's lips as his next partner takes a seat. His previous date - was it a date? It was more like a conversation, really - with had gone pretty much as bad as it could've, panic attack notwithstanding. So, surely, things could only get better. Right?[break][break]

Izzy gives him a polite nod as he sits beside him, placing a little Sobble on the table. Myszko, Izzy's Salandit, sits on the floor under the table between Izzy's feet, sniffing at the air as he can smell the water-type just above.[break][break]

"Hey- uh, not a lot, honestly. I got signed up by someone else, so, uh..."[break][break]

He pauses, then speaks up again. "Oh-, uh, what about you? You lookin' for a date or something?" Just saying the word date brings pink to his cheeks.

Huh. Maybe it was the fact that this guy didn't seem to want to, like, eat him alive or something; or maybe it was the fact that Rotom powered toys really did sound cool as shit, but Izzy felt himself relax in a way he hadn't during the previous match-up.[break][break]

"Oh, yeah? That's cool as shit." He says, having the confidence now to actually look at the guy opposite him.[break][break]

"Derek. Right- uh, I'm Izzy. And, uh... hey, little dude" He holds out a hand for Jonesy to inspect, then looks back up at Derek. "I got my little guy here too - Myszko."[break]
Right on cue, Myszko steps out from beneath the table and settles near Derek's feet, looking up at him with interest.[break][break]

"Don't fall for the cutesy thing, by the way, he bites"

"Damn, really?" Derek looks between the dude and his pokemon, still feeling like maybe he should fall for it just to see. But nah, last thing he needed was for it to poison him. "Then you can stay under the table." Derek mentions, motioning his hand as if to promptly dismiss it from sight. "Anyway, what kind of work do you do? I'm a ranger myself, which is...well, it isn't the greatest paying job, that's for sure. But it could be worse."

Despite Myszko's puppy-dog eyes that beg for a hand to innocently chew on, he's shoo-ed away and hisses a little before retiring back beneath the table.[break][break]

"Oh, yeah, I heard the pay's shitty - especially considering you guys do all kinds of stuff, right? Sucks to like, put yourself in danger and then get pennies back for it" He shrugs - Izzy knows well enough how crap it can be to have no money. Part of him wants the chastise the League for not respecting the rangers enough to pay them better, but he doesn't want to seem suspicious.[break][break]

"I'm a mechanic, mostly freelance. Cars and bikes and stuff." Izzy remembers the stupid joke he made about Magnemites with his previous date and cringes a little bit. "So, y'know, ever need something fixed up, I'm around"

"I'd take you up on that if I could. Always liked the old classics. Would be cool to fix one up and take it out for a spin. But yeah..." Derek draws his breath as thoughts condense about the way rangers handled pay. It wasn't the worst paying job, but considering they qualified for hazard pay, the money wasn't there to be proud of, or happy about. It was the notion you were doing good for Hoenn—all of it's people and pokemon.

"Guess it's nice to dream, at least. But if I ever do come by one, I'll be sure to bring it to you." Noticing the sounding off of the round's end, Derek reaches a hand out for the Sobble to crawl up it, keeping it there a moment longer for Izy to shake if he chose to. "Seems it's time for another round soon. Good luck with the next one." And just like that, the many people in the room juggled around like pins until they all settled into the place they were supposed to be.

Izzy couldn't have related to doing good for Hoenn. He didn't have a connection to the region in the way he would have liked to. In other circumstances, it would have been the place he moved to escape all the shit in his old life, to finally settle down. But right now, it was just the place where Rocket had it's firm grip remaining around him. From the frying pan into the fire, he supposed.[break][break]

"Yeah... well... y'know, dream or not, don't give up on it. Maybe you'll get some old classic someday. Then you can bring it round, or whatever" As Derek gets up, Izzy takes his hand and shakes it.[break][break]

"Thanks, man, you too" He gives him half a smile before the room begins to shuffle and switch again.[break][break]

Well... if everyone else here was like Derek, maybe things wouldn't be too stressful.
