The response had come quicker than expected, as did the proposed location: 'Liberty Burger,' found in the lower district of Slateport. An impressive restaurant, at least according to its sign: "THE BEST UNOVAN BURGERS IN HOENN! Ask about our FAMOUS Castelian City sauce."[break][break]

No citation for either claim was provided. It would have to be taken on faith, then, both that these burgers were 'the best' and their sauce was 'famous.'[break][break]

Elisabeth stared a moment longer at the exterior of this seemingly humble place -- a hidden gem, according to several newspapers -- which she certainly would have never chosen of her own volition. Exhaling softly, she entered, unsure what she might find.[break][break]

As Elisabeth was led by a chatty waitress to a high-top table among a throng of regulars, the blonde seated herself and offered the server a faint smile, her ponytail bouncing with the movement. "Gin and tonic, please." [break][break]

The noblewoman's soft lilting Kalosian accent stood out in this place, where so many spoke in a rushed, excitable Unovan dialect. Her decision to dress somewhat casually, it seemed, was the correct one; nonetheless, the polished nature of her ensemble likewise stood out slightly in a way that it hadn't in her last date near the beach.[break][break]

Elisabeth glanced down at the menu for the listed items, her brow furrowed as she silently marveled at how many variations of burger could exist. And fries or hot dogs, for that matter.[break][break]

What was the fascination with her friends and burgers, anyway? The way Cygne had indulged in the extravagance of hers had been astonishing. Was there something Elisabeth was missing regarding this seemingly simple concept of beef, bread, and condiments?[break][break]

She'd have to ask Izzy when he arrived.

Was Elisabeth fucking FERNANDO SILPH?[break][break]

She was rich, he was rich; she was all calm and collected, he was all calm and collected. And apparently he was paying for her to take randos out to get food... which, like, that wasn't a thing people with platonic relationships did, right? Or, fuck, Izzy didn't know, maybe it was. Maybe it was just some weird rich person thing he didn't get.[break][break]

Either way, it was a free meal - and a good one at that. Izzy could only survive off of ramen from the reduced aisle for so long before his digestive system attempted a full-scale mutiny, so actual food from an actual food place sounded nice. He wasn't versed in real restaurants or anything fancy like that, so he chose the Liberty Burger not too far from where he lived. Reminded him of home - the good parts of home, at least. Liberty Burger threw out some totally edible stuff all the time.[break][break]

He arrives and, despite his introversion, is relaxed by the bubbly customer-servicey atmosphere in the place. The waitress is beaming and bubbly, a bright smile that begged for tips, but it was at least a smile. Service staff in Unova had always been pretty unique compared to other places - it felt weird to be feeling it again, but not in a bad way.[break][break]

He's shown to his seat and meets eyes with Elisabeth Fiorelli as he wanders over, offering her a polite smile. To others, Izzy's attempt at a smile might seem rude, something done out of necessity, but perhaps Elisabeth could pick up on the fact that Izzy wasn't one to smile out of social contract. He just genuinely liked her.[break][break]

"Hey" He takes a seat and flips up a menu to scour, then looks back at her. "Huh. You look all casual. Not, like-- uh- not in a shitty- I mean, bad way." It was surprising, though - Elisabeth was always so pretty, with her dresses and her skirts and her long blonde hair, but now she was wearing jeans and a ponytail. It was surprising, but Izzy's words put through a translator were just you look nice.[break][break]

"Anyway, uh, you been here before?"

Oh, thank Arceus. Elisabeth brightened perceptively at the sight of Izydor Baranowski, her ponytail bouncing as she turned to greet him. She had been entirely overwhelmed by the countless 'dogs' and 'burgers' on the menu.[break][break]

"It is wonderful to see you again, Izzy," the blonde said warmly, assessing him with a maternal eye. "I hope you're doing better than when we last spoke?"[break][break]

The Arcanine injury still worried Elisabeth even now, though she had promised herself not to put a damper on the fun outing. She would ask once about his health, then behave herself. She had some modicum of self-control, after all. Probably.[break][break]

Izydor's fumbled comment about Elisabeth's dress, however, distracted her quickly. "Casual was how they described the dress code in the clipping I found," Elisabeth said with a nod of assent, actually sounding relieved about the descriptor.[break][break]

Perhaps Elisabeth had dressed appropriately after all for this unusual outing? The thought pleased her immensely, like she had solved some particularly confounding puzzle.[break][break]

"This is my first time eating at the 'best Unovan burger joint in Hoenn,' as it happens," the Kalosian noblewoman continued, her eyebrows knitted together as she once more embarked upon the task of deciphering the menu. "Izzy, if I may be perfectly honest, I have no idea what makes each of these burgers so distinct. There's a 'Black City Blast'? Also a 'Castelian Chomp'? And for Celebi's sake, what is a 'Nimbasa Deluxe'?"[break][break]

She looked to Izydor Baranowski imploringly, desperate for some kind of simple explanation. "Do they have salad?" she asked, hopefully.

Since they'd last spoke, he'd done much better, in truth. The wound had healed, his ribs were secured, everything was much less painful than it had been. He'd also spent an evening all skin and tongues with BARNABY FINCH , which still tore at the corners of his mind when he thought too hard about it, and he doesn't want to go bright red in front of Elisabeth, so instead he just nods.[break][break]

"Doin' better, yeah. Everything's all healed up. Little bruising still there, but nothing bad" He nods again in approval of his little health statement, then the topic moves on swiftly, which both Izzy and Elisa are thankful for in different ways.[break][break]

"Yeah, no worries, you got it down. All casual and everything." His own outfit is casual too, just a hoodie and some ripped jeans, but what else did he ever wear? Most of his ripped jeans never even started that way, after all, and came from general wear and tear, or just from Myszko wanting something to chew on.[break][break]

Despite his awkwardness, the way Elisa describes the burgers on the menu as though they're secret codewords makes him smile, and the way she looks up at him like she desperately needs someone to bail her out draws a laugh from his lips. It's just so unexpected - but so much a world she isn't part of.[break][break]

He can understand it, of course, but to see her confidence waver like his own often did was funny as fuck in a kind of comforting way. "Oh... They do have salad, but it's like... with the amount of weird sauce shit they put on it, it's basically worse for you than the burgers" He peers at the menu for a moment, tapping his chin in thought.[break][break]

"So... a Black City Blast has like, a super spicy sauce; the Castelian is basically a quarter pounder with bacon, and the Nimbasa Deluxe - that one's kinda fancy, got all the works, that kinda thing. If you want my recommendation, eh... Nimbasa is probably best. Driftveil Fillet is fish, if you like that, too"[break][break]

He looks back to her, that tiny smile still dancing in his eyes a little. If he'd given himself time to think about it, Izzy would be surprised about how excited he was about spending time in a place like this with someone like Elisabeth. It was almost normal.[break][break]

"How come Silph's paying for this whole gig, then?" He broaches the topic bluntly.

The relief that washed over Elisabeth as Izzy insisted his health had improved since they last spoke. "I'm so very glad to hear it," she said, and each syllable conveyed the sincerity of those words. "I worried about you."

Something in her fluttered a bit at the admission -- was this what having friends was like? Being concerned all the time? It embarrassed Elisabeth slightly to have admitted this weakness aloud.

Thankfully Izzy had already begun deciphering the menu's endless descriptions of burgers, speaking with the casual ease of an expert in the field. Elisabeth leaned her chin on her hand as she listened intently, an eyebrow raised at the fate of the poor, sauce-drowned salads.

"The fish it is, then," she decided firmly, feeling much safer in Izzy's presence already. "What will you be ordering?" She grinned. "No, let me guess... a burger." He and ana fell were so hilariously alike.

In more ways than one, given the question that followed: "How come Silph's paying for this whole gig, then?"

Her ponytail swayed as Elisabeth tilted her head thoughtfully at Izzy's question -- one that she should have expected, really, given how unusual this whole situation was. It was the same question that Cyg had asked her the last time she had done an outing like this one, and despite the days that had passed between then and now, Elisabeth still didn't have a good answer to give in reply.

"Who knows why rich and powerful people spend their money the way they do?" Elisabeth said instead, shrugging. "It was a gift for completing a lot of flower orders for Silph Co. on Palentine's Day. We had the pleasure of meeting at the speed dating event. Beyond that, I cannot say what goes through the mind of FERNANDO SILPH."

It was honest, at least, if ultimately boring and uninteresting.

Raising an eyebrow, Elisabeth shifted the focus of the conversation to her companion: "Did you meet anyone of interest at the Palentine's event, by the by? I seem to recall seeing you in the room."
