WHAT SHE FEELS IS THE TIP OF HIS FINGER TIP AGAINST HER CHIN. a small adjustment to tilt it upward before his thumb traces over her lower lip. he considers asking for her to open wider but instead works with what she’s provided.

the first texture is dry, plain, slightly chilled rice. the top is laced with some kind of meat. soft and tender, with a drizzle of some sweet sauce across it.

Elisabeth stiffened ever so slightly at his approach, the light touch of his fingertips an unexpected one. Then her posture relaxed as her mind slowly pieced together the unseen picture of events, leaning into his lead unbidden as her lips parted to accept his offering.[break][break]

The familiar taste of rice was followed by the tangy sweetness of an unknown sauce, complementing the tender fishmeat of the Gorebyss he named aloud. She savored the new flavors, finding to her pleasant surprise she liked them.[break][break]

Only after she swallowed did she open a single eye, peeking at him curiously.[break][break]

"If we're doing the authentic experience," she asked, "aren't you supposed to eat when I do?"

Her reach was not so impressive due to the constrictive nature of her own garment. For her to play her part required closer proximity than their traditional seats allowed. There was a transgressive aspect to drawing closer, as if acting as one might in their own personal home rather than when eating in a public place.[break][break]

It occurred to her for a fleeting moment there was the possibility that he had chosen a private room for this very reason, and that thought entertained her, too.[break][break]

his mouth closes and he doesn’t chew. just lets it rest as the flavors seep out from the fish to the roof of his tongue. slow, patience chews finally pass it down. and only when his adam apple bobs, does he open his eyes.

The bottle of sake was curiously shaped, necessitating two hands in her estimation to hold properly. Kalosian etiquette came to mind here, and she felt the obligation to pour on his behalf.[break][break]

"How much does someone traditionally pour?" Elisabeth asked, glancing up at him.
