"It's one perk that comes with being a Gym Leader," Josh replied as his smile grew in anticipation of the readings. One thing his Elite Ranger duties required him to be familiar with were all the locations that Rangers were not permitted to rescue people and Pokémon from. "Can you blow that image up for me more?" Josh asked the Head Scientist. If she complied with the Gym Leader's request, he would notice how concentrated the readings were around the northwest sea. He grimaced when he saw where the readings were.

"The... Watery Grave," the words floated from Josh's lips in an almost dejected tone. "I'm unsure how familiar you two are with Ranger protocols, but there are these places in Hoenn called 'No-Rescue Zones' where we're either strongly advised against operating in, or often times straight-up forbidden from operating in. There's a reason for it, too." He went on to describe the Watery Grave's terrifying wild Pokémon, and perhaps a much greater hazard: its submerged, labyrinthine tunnels one could get lost in without superb experience and awareness.

He turned to Illeana. "What I need you to do is keep this operation a secret from the Head Rangers. I was going to ask Julia Davis for her help on this, as she has a lot of experience in dangerous wilderness like this, but it would be a massive breach of protocol for me to go in there, whether on or off duty. I can't get help from a single Ranger. If I'm had, I could easily get fired." He sighed, his head tilted toward his Absol. "But for Twilight... it has to be done. Normally I'm a stickler for rules and regulations, and I get why they exist."

The advice to use Pokémon with DETECT was noted. "Great. I'll make sure to teach it to Twilight right away. I might need to ask a Council member or an Elite Four for an override if things get sticky. Good thing I'm on a first-name basis with three of the Elite Four, huh?" He still didn't know Katherine Fairburne well, but hopefully that would change soon. "How about we all discuss this over lunch at Walpurgisnacht? They have a good sports bar within. My treat."

“The Watery Grave,” Eva repeats, letting the chilling name roll of her tongue with caution. She’d go onto listen Josh describe the wild pokemon and hazardous environment, “Wow, that sounds pretty dangerous . . .” Unfortunately, underwater is not somewhere Rayquaza could go or else she’d offer to help. Getting the aid of Elite Four members would be ideal for an adventure such as this. But given the dangerous nature of it, she selfishly hoped it wasn’t MATIAS SILPH he convinced for help, “I understand your dedication to Twilgiht but . . . please be careful. No mega stone is worth your life or Twilights,” she warns before pressing a few more buttons to sand to coordinates to Josh Devlin.

Eva exits the program and rises form her seat at the computer, “Walpurgisnacht? I don’t think I’ve been there yet,” it was on her list of place to check out and free lunch didn’t sound so bad! “Sure! Any races on today?” she grins, raising a brow at Josh when he mentioned it having a good sport’s bar, “You gonna come with, Illeana?”

and a faint smile rises at the thought of curiosity carrying him into unknown dangers, as if it's a familiar old friend she hasn't seen in years. it itches at her finger tips, at nerves and muscles and sinew and bone. the hunt for something has never failed to disappoint.

she wonders if this quest for an absolite will be no different for him.

with eva's warning to the mauville city gym leader, her head bobs into a nod.

"definitely be careful... who knows what threats mt pyre's landscape and nearby routes now have."

and she hates to admit it but she's leaping at the chance to socialize outside of work and duty and things that feel more like autopilot than anything else. she's been antisocial, keeping to herself and holding onto a distance she can't relinquish. the divide has long since grown too much for her to handle much longer.

"yeah, i'm down to come along!"

she brightens and beams at the thought.
