She let his fingers roam. They were explorers traveling across uncharted waters, each button releasing a new piece of land to discover.

The sharp ring of Penelope's phone cut through the office like a knife. It was a series of short, obnoxious beeps, done in a succession that was hard to ignore. She would know because, for a second, she definitely tried.

Groaning, she dragged herself from him, accepting the immediate wash of cool, air-conditioned air against her bare skin.

it's not often that matias is able to keep his emotions in check. it would've been far too easy to let the ENVY in him show when he sees ollie morales's name flash on her screen. the HATRED that rises for the ranger.[break][break]

It was hard to tell. On one hand, Ollie didn't call her often, but on the other, after everything that's happened between them, she wouldn't be surprised if it was just some silly question he was wanting to ask her.

Another ding echoed out. On the screen, in bold lettering, his name appeared again. This time in the form of a text.

It urged her to pick up.

Disappointed, she slowly slithered from his graps, plucking his arms from around her waist. Then, with hurried steps, she pressed her phone back to life and stood near the front of the office, where she could at least have an inch more of privacy.

The phone call lasted no more than a minute, but throughout it, her expression remained a mystery.

The call ended.
