everything moves too quickly -- mint frost slipping deeper into the trenches, GABRIEL BLACK mumbling something about cutting it off, and Elisabeth Fiorelli coming to the rescue with quick-timed vines.

and her mind is in a tizzy, jumbled up and left to rot.

faintly, she feels a tingling sensation in her legs. it's barely there, like an odd sort of feeling existing solely in the background. her eyes glance down and as black veins come into view, so too does pained movement.

"wait!"

it's too late.

ollie morales is already dragging them up with the vines Elisabeth Fiorelli's venusaur has provided. and what comes up with them is deep sea horror.

a hiss escapes and she's scrambling to free herself from ollie's grasp.

"get away. quickly."

pink mist begins to coil around her and she tries to gather it with her hands, tries to press it to her legs as quickly as possible to stop the black veins from spreading further... but it's futile.

she feels the toxin settling in, seeping through cracks in the foundation until she's beginning to gag on the sensation.

and after a moment, her hands fall to her sides. they twitch and jerk randomly, like a puppet's limbs on strings. her head rises, a shiver scrambling down the spine in the process, and she looks close to tears.

"ollie... do you have anything to help against poison?"

faintly, there's the ghost of a smile on her lips. and the longer she waits, the wider it spreads... crazed and infected.

Mint practically tuned out the violence above, ignoring the furious mother as they broke the cardinal rule: don't fuck with the babies. Too late, he thinks. Shouldn't have injected poison into him. As he lands bear the make shift nest, he explode a couple of eggs on impact. All's well. "Parasites." he he hissed, falling to his knees, the poison surging through his system His breathing became labored. [break][break]

Tiramisu is released form the Nihelego Mother's hold, sucked up into the ranger's pokeball. He turned to his trainer who's visibly struggling on the cave floor. He doesn't notice the black veins crawling up his neck and over his hands. [break][break]

He's entirely too focused on revenged. "Tira...Tiramisu...?" he called, a weak but wicked grin on his face. The Baxcalibur rushes forth and as Mint began to roll the eggs in the way of his dragon, something snatches him up. "Hey!" he lets out with a gasp. He managed to hug an egg close to him as his Baxcalibur rushes over the next, overshooting Mint as he's suddenly picked up. [break][break]

Tiramisu succeeds in any case, trampling and killing the rest of the clutch that the mother couldn't save. "Aww, shouldn't have jabbed me, huh kiddos?" he asked nobody, laughing in his petty revenge.[break][break]

Though much occurred in the span of time that passed between them, Elisabeth's attention focused on two specific things. First, the presence of the Ultra Beasts that had presented themselves to ollie morales and mint frost.[break][break]

"You don't look so well, Reyes," Elisabeth said, turning to the Head Scientist that she had once met in Petalburg in much better circumstances. An eyebrow lifted as she turned to GABRIEL BLACK, curious if he read the situation in the way she herself did.[break][break]

Meanwhile her Venusaur's vines withdrew, preparing instead a SUNNY DAY to cast light on their surroundings -- a precautionary decision, for later.

despite the wild smile it accompanies, her tone is almost afraid.

"it'll be in my brain within a minute if it isn't already."

she remembers studying it in her lab. the brain scans, how every inch of each lobe seemed seeped in the substance, and the stories of its victims.

a shiver follows. her arms try to reach for ollie morales and she tries to retract them with a shaky breath, struggling to lower limbs against a force that isn't there.

"i'll be fine."

heal pulse is nice, sure, but it will not help her here.

she needs the antidote. she needs her lab.

and for fucks sake, she needs to be better prepared.

Elisabeth nodded curtly in answer to GABRIEL BLACK's assessment, inwardly wincing on the behalf of his companions. It wasn't their fault, exactly, that this was a failure; the Ultra Deep Sea was not an easy place to traverse.[break][break]

She knew that herself, for reasons that she suspected Illeana now understood as well as she did: a suspicion that was confirmed when the scientist spoke aloud.[break][break]

"Should the influence become too much, my Venusaur's vines will subdue you until we get you to your lab," Elisabeth said, moving to depart this place with them. "Hopefully the infection travels slowly."[break][break]

She'd rather not expose her Rocket alignment in this moment, by attacking a member of the League's best and brightest. But if it came between her and Illeana, well... she knew which side she'd pick.[break][break]

she'd prefer to not be bound up, but it's better than being a bystander in her own body as the toxins overtake her controls.

and then, ollie morales's hand is coming into sight and she stares down at it. faintly, she feels the heal pulse once more. it's a nice gesture, one fitting of the ranger.

after, perhaps, too long, her hand shakily takes ollie's. her grip is tight, close to crushing.

"let's go."

quickly... she doesn't know how long is left before the full effects settle in. she feels it creeping up along her body, whispering intrusive thoughts all over.

retreating is the only option now and she follows them through to the end.

He's manic, overwhelmed with emotion his petty revenge had given him but also in pain. His bones throbbed, full body and all at once as it followed his heartbeat. Everything hurt. He coughs too, choking for a moment on the sudden burst of pink mist from the Head Scientist, too frazzled to really register what she was doing. Black veins crawl up his neck and behind cyan locks. His temples pulse as fair skin turns gray and then slowly black. [break][break]

illeana reyes says she'll be fine, but Mint isn't so sure about himself. He feels ready to wretch, curling up around the delicate egg in his arms. The HEAL PULSE soothes some of the pain but he shakes as he says, "It's full body- nerves- head- everything-" he reported, fingers twitching as the party got ready to move forward towards their exit. They hadn't even made it back to the ship yet and they were already turning back around. What horrible luck. [break][break]

He looks up at GABRIEL BLACK disappointed in himself more so than anybody else here. His Baxcalibur is at his side nudging Mint to his feet to follow the rest. He takes the rear of the party, eyes vigilant for more Nihilego. [break][break]

Mint struggles after, focusing more on steady steps to keep the egg form falling out of his clutches. He could use a good bath, and a nap, and the cure to whatever the hell was coursing through his body right now. "Don't need to tell me twice-" he said as they left the rift.
