They punch one another and the world once again shatters. Navy shudders back. For a moment, everything goes black. He thinks that finally, finally, he’ll get knocked out. He’ll get to rest. Maybe someone big and important like kyle lopez or Melody Miro will find his body washed up on the shore. He owes Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki that trip to the beach. After everything he’s been through, he has half a mind to make it a party. He’ll bring Josh Devlin along. Shouko Kawade can come along, too. She needs to make some friends her own age.[break][break]
There’s no time to dream about tomorrow. The conflict defines them. In truth, by now, the battle is already decided. Whatever good Navy and Kouji may or may not have done is done. The die has been cast. There’s no point to any of this anymore, except the love of the game.[break][break]
That is, until they’re cast once more into the sea of dreams. They’re in the eye of a hurricane. It looks like Sootopolis. There’s enough differences at a glance for the great detective Michael Navidson to recognize this place is not, in fact, the real article. No, that would be too easy. It’s a place born from madness and misinformation.[break][break]
They stand in the middle of the city’s gym. Painted in the center of the green field is the red and white pokeball symbol synonymous with the League. It seems to morph into flesh. It blooms like a mushroom. Something shambles towards them.[break][break]
Something that should not exist.[break][break]
A living paradox.[break][break]
“Kouji, you seein’ this?” Navy asks. Their battle, for the moment, has been forgotten. There is a new foe. One, Navy fears, will require whatever energy they both have remaining.[break][break]
Navy only has one Pokemon left. He wonders how many Kouji has.[break][break]
He throws out Roland. His Gallade is tired as he is. Much like his trainer, he assumes a fighting stance.[break][break]
Neither of ‘em heard no bell.

Kouji ran a hand through his hair as he stumbled forward upwards. He was struggling, his head was a haze; the pain he had felt. What John Sullivan had done to him, the loss he had suffered against Eva Morales, the embarrassment that struck him when fighting Elinor Anderson, and finally the insanity that was the fight against Melody Miro, he had suffered, had his ass kicked; and yet, he was standing shoulder to shoulder with another League,

Maybe it was because this man was not a League that made this possible, not a real one.

It was strange, to not be sure whether he’d be able to understand someone as well as he understood the man known as Michael Navidson, Navy. It was stupid, silly, something that shouldn’t be possible, but he stood in front of the threat in front of him.

”Just one.”

He said as he threw out his Meowscarada, fresh; she hadn’t truly been tested on that day. She stood strong, stood there, and looked out at the Brute Bonnet, a pokemon that shared the exact same type as her.

Not that either would know such a name. But just like her trainer she was always ready for a fight.

”Let's destroy this thing.” And so the Brute Bonnet charged forward as it drew in imaginary sun lens, it’s head and arms began to glow brighter and brighter.

Navy recognizes what is coming at once. The brutish thing, that will come to be called Brute Bonnet in the days to come, is charging up. Gathering power into itself. Navy knows this move well. Gabe’s Venasaur did something like that. It’s trouble. Arceus is it gonna be trouble.[break][break]
“I dunno what type that thing is, Roland, but get in there and give him hell. Up close. Fast and loose. You’re strong. We’re warriors. We’ve got this.” He’s too tired to care how he looks. Swaying on his feet, he tells his Pokemon exactly how he feels. No one is a bigger fan of his Pokemon than Navy himself.[break][break]
The warrior nods and disappears in a flash. He teleports behind the creature. A movement oft repeated plays. Fighting spirit gathers along the edge of his hand-blades. Reckless close combat with a superior foe. For the first time that die, Roland speaks. He raises a war cry as he cuts into the charging beast.

He knew full well what needed to be done, as Gallade used that Teleport what it represented, what it did; a reckless attack that couldn’t be encouraged, but Kouji understood that it was a warrior.

”You heard ‘im Meowscarada. Don’t go losing aight? Go support that Gallade.” And as she did so, it was natural that the moment that the Brute Bonnet had gone for the Solar Beam; she switched places completely, taking the place of the Gallade to take that blast directly, as a fellow grass type it wasn’t as painful as it would have been otherwise.

Right as she began to throw it forward, a gift, a collection of flowers that she materialized and threw forward; a move that was always a critical hit. A pure grass type for that singular moment, she changed just what she was, but that was natural.

A magician always had her own tricks, and this pokemon was going to be feeling the full force of being ganged up on.

“Man.” Navy has to admit he’s impressed, looking the magician Pokemon over. Her tricks are impressive. Even a magician, it seems, can be a warrior. They’re both putting their heart into this. The cat took a blow meant for Roland. Both trainer and Pokemon know that. There’s ample respect there. The Brute Bonnet turns, knowing that another hit is coming.[break][break]
“I’m impressed. That’s one helluva Pokemon you’ve got there.” Navy compliments his peer, seeing the trick that the Pokemon is about to pull. It’s the same sort of trick Absol tried to pull on Vortigern earlier.[break][break]
“Cover your eyes!” He shouts to those that can understand human speech. It seems that does not include the Brutal Bonnet. Navy tosses out the first flashbang of the day, one he snagged from a League stash when he was working alongside Lars earlier that day. Turning, he hears the explosion. The creature stumbles back and groans.[break][break]
Roland attempts a psycho cut soon after, only to realize it has no effect.[break][break]
“Hey, looks like this guy’s your type.”

”Yeah, she’s a real reliable one. Don’t worry though, she’s not just all magic tricks. Play a lil Rough.” His smirk turned vicious as she did, her type changed once more. The brute bonnet swung its arms widely.

A dark haze covered the area as it opened its mouth widely, a dark maw; but it was faced with a punch from her instead; a pink haze seemed to overwrite it; then as it tried to step forward, it stepped into a sticky globe.

”Crap, I forgot about those.” And so he threw out his own, a natural move; throwing it towards the other leg until it was stuck there. Brute bonnet stuck between the two pokemon, and stuck into place; it was a natural result.

It would face its end here.

Skidding across the field, Roland sees the opportunity afford to him and he takes it wholeheartedly. He rushes in. Energy forms once more along the edge of his blade. He delivers a perfect finishing blow. He delivers a great, furious cut. One meant to take the leg out from under this creature. It shrieks. The first sound it makes. And as it shrieks, it falls. Vanquished. Dead. Roland huffs. Reaching his hand to the grass magician, water sweeps over them both. Life Dew. It’s the secret of how he’s kept the team going for this long.[break][break]
The world shifts once more. They’re in a desolate battlefield. A future that may one day be. Above them, like beings looking down on a simulate world, are many eyes. Like the eyes of strange squids or other deep sea animals. They hum their low tune, curious about what will happen next. Machine parts are scattered all around them. Orange sand is beneath their feet. Bodies scattered about that look like the foreign invaders that use the Ultra Beasts.[break][break]
“Shit, I don’t like this.” Navy murmurs.[break][break]
From a pile of machine parts emerges a massive pair of hands. A machine grunts as he twirls free. A week from now, this creature will be called Iron Hands. In this moment, Navy calls it…[break][break]
“Ugly. Man, that thing is ugly.”

The world changed around them, Kouji had no time to adjust to the changing of everything around him; to adjust to just how much everything was shifting, how much everything would never ever end up being the same.

”If this is the future…I don’t want to exist in it.” He said as he looked at it, his conversation with Xenon Antheil, came to mind. He knew this wasn’t the future they spoke of, but he still stepped forward.

Meowscarada looked confident after being healed by Gallade, the two of them could do this, and she had her own healing move she was ready to use at any moment. But now, they were fighting this strange creature of hands, her first move was to send out a Flower Trick, a volley of bouquets that was thrown forward, a grass type.

But it was met with an electric charge, a wild electric charge that tore up the ground as it moved forward towards the two pokemon.

Roland communicates a wordless message with his eyes to his fellow combatant.[break][break]
Cover me.[break][break]
He falls back as an electric tingle traces through the air. The hairs on the back of Navy’s neck stand up. Something has clearly changed. A boost is in place. This Pokemon, already robust, turns absolutely indomitable under the effects of the terrain he has planted.[break][break]
Yet Roland is calm. His mind is focused only on this fight. In the words of a swordsman from Johto, in the Void is virtue. Navy has read that passage to him many times. He dances a swords dance, focusing power along the edges of his blades. This will be a long battle. If he can power himself up for what is to come, then he will be able to find anything. He will hold the line. He can fight the tide of oncoming monsters.[break][break]
What terrifies him, no, what mortifies him, is what he senses in the minds of this machine. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. A true absence of thought. He comes to kill them because it is its nature. There is no deeper meaning nor malice.[break][break]
“I sure won’t let it come to this.” Navy agrees with Kouji’s sentiment, watching the battle play out. Terrified for Roland, but not willing to let that show. They both want to be here. Whatever comes next, he can’t afford to have regrets.

The dark-type trainer looked on at the pokemon across from them; it was strange, different, a complete menace, but that was fine. They’d be able to fight it just fine, and he was assured of that in his own way.

There was something else to it; this time. ”It’s empty, there’s nothing worthwhile here. This is a world in which fights don’t really exist, a world of empty attacks.” It was the opposite of his wish, as dystopian as it could get to him, but it wasn’t the thought their pokemon were having.
[break][break]
There was something else for Meowscarada as she nodded back at Roland, a simple answer for her; a wordless communication as she struck her pose; she began to sharpen her claws, just as it began to sword’s dance, her accuracy, her power, all skyrocketed in that moment before she got ready to charge forward, an electric charge met her forward charge as she met it with her own flower gift.

Grass had an advantage against electric, but even so it was a difference in energy; yet she left the opportunity open for Roland.

“And a world like this…” Navy looks about. Sees the destruction all around. It is ordered, but only because everything is dead.[break][break]
“It can’t exactly know real peace, now can it? It just exists in stasis. Like freezing someone so a future generation can cure them of a problem.” What better time to wax poetic than in the midst of battle? Their world views couldn’t be more different. They’re the precise opposites of one another. Yet, by sheer coincidence, they both arrive at the same conclusion. This place is wrong. It is a blight. A cancer. They must purge it out by killing this paradoxical existence before them.[break][break]
Roland rushes. His cleared mind, his sharp eyes, his honed blade. They see all. They see the path forward to victory, the opportunity left to him by his new companion. On some level, he understands that if they survive, they will end up fighting. That’s simply how war goes. Today’s allies are tomorrow’s enemies. He endeavors to enjoy being on the same side while he can.[break][break]
He delivers another psycho cut, leaving a deep slash of psychic energy across its chassis. It sparks. Its insides are exposed. Just machine parts. No organs. No real character. A factory-produced monster.[break][break]
Roland does not know why, but he shudders.

Kouji couldn’t hold back his disgust. ”People who give up part way make me sick, and a world that’s long given up…There’s nothing more fucking disgusting than that. I’ll never accept anything like this.” Different colors, flying under different banners, yet the same truth that they had arrived at. This pokemon must never come into their world, he could accept the ancient past, he could accept a tyrannical future.

But he couldn’t accept this.
[break][break]
That was perfectly fine for him, and it seemed Meowscarada was fine too; as Roland came in clutch; hitting the Iron Hands just in time for her to back away; she readied up a bigger hit, a pollen puff, a large amount of spores that flew forward; healing her allies, but attacking the stranger in front of her. A dual move that worked well, and her type changed once more as she was struck by a punch, but…

A hive couldn’t be squished by a mere punch, not truly, and just like that, a bug type wouldn’t fall to a fighting type move. Jumping between resistances on a hair’s dime, she was ready to bring this pokemon to fall alongside her new comrade.

”You’re doing it guys, just a little bit more.” Kouji said as the pollen began to invade the internal machinery of this creature.

“Horaaaaaaaaah!” Roland cries. The second time he has spoken. He falls into a sword dance of an entirely different kind. It’s repetition at its most visceral. Speed honed to the point of mastery. An unrelenting blade. Singing a song of destruction. The Song of Roland is a furious thing. He does not stop. He does not sleep. He cannot stop. Not until the foe before him is dead.[break][break]
It’s taken apart circuit by circuit. They fly from him like veins. Cog by cog. They drain from him like organs. This monster is systematically destroyed. Ripped apart. Torn. Destroyed.[break][break]
His eyes betray no hatred. How can he hate that which does not feel? To hate a machine or the world such a creature represents the height of folly. He looks back to the two trainers and his partner.[break][break]
“At least this world isn’t gonna be our problem for much longer.” Navy says, wondering what fresh hell will soon consume them.

The electricity came to a different level, it seemed to become a thunderstorm just as the clouds came rolling in; covering the sky, stopping everyone and anyone from seeing the blue sky; trees rose up from the ground, and then were flattened by the creature that came forth, metallic looking branches that connected towards three heads, a strange form of Magneton.

”Goddamn, this is a lot better. The wilds huh?” He felt at home here, it was a place he spent too much time in. The metal jungle was completely fine, but more than that was the natural jungle, the feeling of blood pumping in his veins, the feeling that anything, and everything could kill him in a singular moment.

”Don’t lose out.” He said as he threw a sticky globe; throwing it towards the electric type.
[break][break]
Similar to the last one, and yet different, this was a thing that would one day be known as Sandy Shocks.
[break][break]
Meowscarada was not the first one in this time, sending forward another pollen puff as if to heal Gallade once more, and attack the Sandy Shocks at the same time, to push both towards the future that should have existed.
