You take to the air on the back of your flying Pokémon, ready to guide them around the simple maze of ethereal walls. Unfortunately, you have greatly underestimated the strength of your Pokémon, and you fall into the field of strong GRAVITY, feeling your weight multiply. No longer able to keep your eyes open, they close amidst the crushing force, and you fall unconscious.[break][break]

When you come to, you find yourself and your now fainted Pokémon on the ground, the first thing you see being Shalin's concerned face. "You're okay! If there weren't at least some kind spirits patrolling, you'd have been a goner! But please... try not to be so reckless going forward..." she pleads with you.[break][break]

After you recover from the out-of-body experience, Shalin proposes a much safer way to cross the maze. Taking advantage of some large stones and pots, as well as a small gap in the ethereal wall, she and her Shiny Espeon, Starr, ferry you across with liberal use of ALLY SWITCH.[break][break]

At last past the field of GRAVITY, you encounter a fork, the right side of which is impassible due to a series of ethereal walls preventing you from going forward with your current equipment.[break][break]

With only one way to progress, you head left. Beyond is a series of eight inert Golurk arranged seemingly haphazardly, eight green, out of place markings arranged in a perfect square, with a ninth, blue marking in its center.[break][break]

She pays no heed to how strange it is, instead stomping on one of the four floor switches near the south and west walls. For the one that she stomps, the Golurk statues on that line begin shaking, slide toward her, then stop. After a few seconds, they slide back into their original position. It seems that all four will need to be pressed in rapid succession, and in the correct order, to open the ethereal cage in the odd chanber's ceiling. Your ROGUISH SENSES let you discern that inside the cage is the missing SMALL KEY.[break][break]

Your sequence is correct; the inert Golurk slide into place. Above them, the ethereal cage aurrounding the SMALL KEY disappears, the metallic object hitting the floor with a clink. "Nice one! We worked together for that one. There are so many traps down here. This must be why the Halls of Origin have stayed sealed for this long. Who else could break into so many dangerous places and live to tell about it?"[break][break]

After some backtracking, you use your SMALL KEY to open the locked door upstairs, opposite the flooded room. You emerge in a dark room similar to the hall of graves on the top level, except this time there are four box torches surrounding the gravestone instead of two. Seeing little choise, Shalin calls on the help of Kiara, her Pyroar, mounting up and circling them with a gout of FLAMETHROWER.[break][break]

Once all four are lit, a spirit rises from the gravestone's head, this one an Alolan Marowak. Unlike the sword-wielding Hisuian Zoroark, this one wields its bone more like a spellcaster's rod. Suddenly, a feminine, haunted-sounding voice echoes in your minds:[break][break]

"So! You HoPe To BReaK My CuRSe? i'M TouGHeR THaN My BRoTHeR! i WiLL SToP You!"[break][break]

After the threatening remarks, dual streams of FLAMETHROWER fly from each end of the blazing bone, curving toward you and Shalin! She ducks behind her Pokémon for her own protection, but by the time she could switch Pokémon to her Kommo-o, the phantom disappeared! Striking it when it fades back from the ethereal will require great timing, and smashing its soul gem to dispatch the phantom will require a sufficiently powerful attack, if the battle with the Zoroark set a precedent.[break][break]

Beneath the silent and still waters, it becomes apparent why this part of the Forbidden Crypt is flooded: its waters are held in place by a locked floodgate. Hordes of Jellicent slowly float toward you in the underwater darkness, the only other landmark being light filtering in from above a far corner. Beneath is a void you cannot see the bottom of.[break][break]

Was the bottom of the crypt the lakebed, or something far deeper? Either could be terrifying to consider...[break][break]

You pass by the Jellicent, trying to attract as little attention as possible. While they do float toward you, they are much too slow to catch you and your aquatic Pokémon. Depending on how long your investigation takes, the Jellicent may catch up to you. With them greatly outnumbering you, if you were to be surrounded, the only way out would be a fight.[break][break]

You reach the eerie light source, which is coming from above the flooded chamber. Its waters go up an entire floor, but the light source itself appears to be another story up. You feel like your aquatic Pokémon could make the leap all the way up to the top floor if it built up enough speed. Failure would risk being surrounded by the strong but slow Jellicent.[break][break]

Your Pokémon executes the two-story leap successfully. At the top awaits an intimidating-looking, candle-lit chamber with an ornate treasure chest in its center, surrounded by blade traps in every direction except the very back. A low ceiling straddling the border between material and ethereal makes it impossible to ride a Pokémon across the pit you cannot see the bottom of. The only obvious way to cross is by a soul-laden floor patrolled by a paranormal-looking spotlight, said spotlight the only thing making it visible -- and solid.[break][break]

Your ROGUISH DEXTERITY makes timing the two quick leaps possible, though harrowing. Making it to the chest on the opposite side, you creak it open, revealing a pair of black-and-red, vampire-like capes. Ghost-type energy pours out of them as your heart thumps.[break][break]

You got the PHANTOM CAPE! You can now briefly pass from the material world to the ethereal world and travel through ethereal walls, just like a ghost Pokémon. You can even use it to briefly hover where there is no solid ground at all! It won't work in sunlight or moonlight, though...[break][break]

Through experimentation, you are able to discover that the powers of your PHANTOM CAPE let you pass through the ethereal walls and floors that have barred your way, and that it can be activated and deactivated with a short cooldown. As you return to Shalin, she seems frightened, as though she had seen a ghost.[break][break]
