It was a humid summer’s day in Petalburg Woods. They weren’t ideal conditions for Kaname, who was busy wiping sweat from his brow, but they did make him feel a little homesick and nostalgic. It reminded him of being young and visiting his grandparents, playing in the woods behind their home.[break][break]

Nearby, a Greedent chittered happily as it gnawed on a berry. He frowned at the lazy rodent, who was once again snacking. It was a Pokémon he would normally have no interest in, given its lax and dim witted nature; however, it was a recent gift from his mother who thought he was in need of a companion. “Let’s go, we have a quota to fulfill.” He urged the gluttonous pokemon to life by producing a small Oran berry treat. “If you’re good you can have this AFTER we are done.” His Greedent quickly scarfed down his berry and hurriedly joined Kaname as the scientist strolled down the trail.[break][break]

To the average person, would just look like an average person out on a hike with his pokemon; but Kaname had a more specific reason for being in Petalburg Woods today. He was looking for research specimens, Pokémon to incorporate into a new project that he intended to propose to the upper echelon of Team Rocket- or at least propose to the head scientists. If he could get a few prime specimens and prepare some data beforehand, it would increase his chances of his proposal succeeding.[break][break]

It was the Espeon Kaname that noticed first, the sleek Psychic-type was accompanying a familiar face, a face that Kaname had never seen smile before. Kaname paused and offered Zev Harcourt a simple nod as a greeting. “Afternoon…”

Kaname Fujihara was not the man Zev expected to see on a hike through Petalburg Woods on a random afternoon. He did a double take when he recognized the younger man, his steps slowing until he had almost stopped.[break][break]

Zev cast a quick glance around the immediate area. No other people were in sight. Turning once more to the grunt, he dropped the smile that had started to spread across his face. A coldness replaced it, one with which Kaname should be familiar.[break][break]

"Fujihara," Zev said by way of greeting. "Are you here for work?"[break][break]

Rocket work, he meant.

Seeing Zev Harcourt outside of the Rocket HQ was a strange experience for Kaname, he’d never really considered that the beast may have a civilian persona or lifestyle. So catching him in Petalburg Woods with a pokemon that seemed so unlike him was an eye opening experience, to say the least.[break][break]

It was when Zev’s smile faded into a frosty coolness that Kaname felt more at ease with the man. There was no need to hide or pretend with each other; after all, they both knew what the other was.[break][break]

“Yes, I’m just collecting research subjects for a project I plan to propose.” He replied, his Greedent bounding over with a paralyzed Smoliv in its grasp, a noticeable chuck of the Olive Pokemon had a bite in it. “You finally caught up AND brought something useful, good job!” Kaname sounded surprised as he produced an empty pokeball and tossed it at the distressed, paralyzed Smoliv.[break][break]

Zev raised an eyebrow, curious. It seemed that whenever members of Team Rocket ventured into the wilderness to capture Pokémon, their reasons were invariably related to work projects. He was no different, of course.[break][break]

"Walk with me," the Beast said. "And tell me about this project you're proposing. And play along if we encounter any strangers on the trail."[break][break]

His Espeon trotted ahead as the two men began to walk at a comfortable pace. The sharp call of a Simisage filled the air as the primate swung from branches overhead, but Zev and his Pokémon ignored it.

"Of course." Kaname paused to quickly clear his throat. "In short, I formed and sent a proposal to Head Scientist Naomi Sato , asking for resources to begin researching and studying the makeup and uses of grass and bug type pokemon products and byproducts; things like their pollen, mushrooms, spores, and powders. The idea behind it is that these pokemon types are common and readily accessible, on top of the fact that they produce a variety of useful compounds that we could research into further and expand upon their uses outside of treating them as mere weapons." [break][break]

The scientist paused momentarily to look back and ensure his Greedent was still dawdling along, and not being attacked by a sunbathing Arbok; he would turn back to Zev as they walked. "Ideally, this would lead to medical and warfare based advancements and thus create new financial opportunities for Team Rocket as well as bolster us in our fight against the League and allow me to expand my research into other types of Pokémon. Do you have any questions?"[break]

Kaname spoke as if he was giving a lecture at a conference. Zev liked that. It was better than the other person believing they had any chance of the assassin warming up to them.[break][break]

"It's an interesting idea," he said, meaning it. "Biological warfare is not an area that our group has expanded into, though there is Bothwell Apothecary in Sootopolis."[break][break]

A Cutiefly zoomed into their proximity. Zev's Espeon leaped toward it, striking with SWIFT before pouncing upon the startled bug. He brought it over to Zev as if pleased by the capture. The man sighed and accepted the wild Pokémon into a Pokéball.[break][break]

"Have you been there?" he asked Kaname. "Or have you met ana fell?"

“I like to think it’s an interesting idea.” He responded, watching a wild Swalot struggle to reach a branch laden with berries. Meanwhile, the scientist's Greedent happily continued to munch on his store of berries. “I think if we’re going to continue these skirmishes with the League, and we will, we need to open other avenues of attack.”[break][break]

Kaname paused for a moment, watching the Espeon expertly catch the cutiefly and bring it to his master. “I can’t say I’ve done either, is there a particular reason you mention them? Do you think they’d be able to contribute something of worth to my little project?”

Zev nodded as they continued their stroll, ignoring rustles in the tall grass that signaled the presence of wild Pokémon.[break][break]

"Cygne worked for Underboss Fiorelli. My understanding is they have a close relationship, though I don't know what Cygne thinks about recent events."[break][break]

Notably Elisabeth Fiorelli's Avatarship and the sudden, drastic reveal of her true personality.[break][break]

"Fiorelli is a poisoner and taught Cygne her trade. There may be ingredients she can provide you or techniques she can share," Zev continued as they rounded a bend in the trail. "If anything can be used for your research, take advantage of it."

“Interesting...” He said quizzically, finding it interesting that ana fell of all people took on the trade of poisoner. Due to his interaction with her during the SPECTRA trials, he wouldn’t have pegged her for someone who took on an art requiring such finesse. “I will keep Cygne and Underboss Fiorelli in mind. As you said, use any advantage I’ve got.” He said with a smirk.

He paused momentarily to glance at his watch and sighed. “Thank you, for your time. However, I should return what specimens I do have to the base.” He offered the Beast a polite nod before turning around and heading back down the trail in the opposite direction, whistling for his Greedent to follow him.
