The people around you look like they belong to an old civilization. Busily, they work at constructing what appears to be a temple or tomb among the great dunes of this place.[break][break]

When asked, a worker says, "We are creating a great protector. Eons ago, a great star fell from the heavens and landed here. We are finally able to harness its power. Go. Take a look!"[break][break]

You enter the incomplete tomb to see a large chunk of some unknown purple material. Red veins pulse throughout it like blood—or poison. It emanates a great power. Before it, several boulders are set against each other.

Once more, Zev found himself within the desert simulation. Workers hurried to and fro, hauling stone and building the walls of the tomb. The Rocket Beast walked through the unfinished structure and found, once again, the purple ore emanating with great power.[break][break]

His eyes slid sideways to regard the boulders arranged around it.[break][break]

"Compared to the purple rock, these are normal, but their placement is suspicious," he commented to Admin Bee, gesturing to them with a hand. "I'm going to see what happens if we move them. Any objection?"[break][break]

Seeing the garb these people wore brought Barnaby back to their time in the ruined Galar, where peasants had lived and worked in much the same clothing. It left a bad taste in his mouth.[break][break]

Thankfully, the workers could largely be ignored. The giant chunk of rock at the center of a makeshift tomb was what they'd come here for. As the two ROCKETs approached, it pulsated with a familiar purple glow.[break][break]

Around it, giant boulders leaned against one another.[break][break]

"By all means." Barnaby assented, stepping back a few paces to let the Beast do his work.

The mysterious material pulses and the boulders begin to meld into each other. Life begins to course through the stacked stones. Stony limbs rise and push its heavy monolith of a torso from the ground. It begins to expand in size continuously and pulses with a powerful energy that begins to metamorphose the surrounding rocks and sediment...[break][break]

Before you can witness any more, you must evacuate. A bastardized REGIROCK has been born and is tearing the tomb down with all of you inside of it.

Zev ignored the protests of the worker who'd rushed inside. The boulders had his undivided attention as they moved, almost in time to the pulsing of the purple rock. They stacked on top of each other like a stop motion film he'd seen once as a child, forming something tall… taller…[break][break]

The strange Pokémon towered over everything. It screamed, emitting an unnatural sound, and the world shifted in response. The tomb quaked. Rocks split and dust streamed down upon Zev, Bee, and the workers in curtains.[break][break]

Self-preservation overtook Zev. He turned on his heel to flee. "RUN!" he snapped at his companion.

Increasingly so, Barnaby's exploits within this simulated world were fraught with peril. It seemed that with every decision none of the options given led to a passive resolution.[break][break]

It was rather telling of what to expect in further simulations.[break][break]

RUN![break][break]

Zev Harcourt didn't have to tell him twice. As soon as the huge boulders had begun to shamble together, Barnaby was already sidestepping backwards. The walls of the makeshift ruin shuddered against the assault by the REGIROCK, goading him to sprint back toward the entrance. [break][break]

The two barely made it through before the inevitable collapse — of the ruin and this stage of the simulation.

Zev took a moment to observe his and Bee's new surroundings. The petrified Pokémon reminded him of the frozen statues dotting the Silent Icelands. However, each one here kneeled facing the tree.[break][break]

As he approached, another conscience pressed against his. No words formed, but he could sense the tree beckoning for him. Zev's eyes fell upon a watering can placed near the roots.[break][break]

"bryan delarosa tended the Tree of Life, I thought. So this is Xerneas' domain," the Beast mused aloud. Which meant that the tree fell under Rocket's care.[break][break]

He moved toward the watering can.[break][break]

Barnaby's chest still heaved from the exertion of running, even as the realm shifted around him and they found themselves in a much different space.[break][break]

It was oddly serene here... if one could ignore the petrified bodies littered about.[break][break]

"Correct. Though I don't see the deer depicted in any of these... statues." The admin confirmed, his eyes tracing over the leafless edifice of this Tree of Life, wondering silently to himself how many of these had cropped up over the span of time.[break][break]

He could feel the presence pressing on his consciousness, too, but allowed Zev to be the one to water the tree. Not surprisingly, Barnaby was skeptical of the all supernatural beckoning he'd experienced within the simulation.

[attr="class","itemcoltext"]You water the tree. Suddenly, you hear a crackling sound of moving wood, the bare tree's branches swaying as if alive. Around you, the petrified Pokemon stir alive. The stone crumbles apart as new fur, hide and scale emerge.[break][break]

The tree settles back into dormancy, but the Pokemon eventually turn to you in thanks.[break][break]

Curiously, these Pokemon feature brilliant markings that glow and glimmer beautifully in the dappled sunlight. Whether they were originally Illumina Pokemon or not is uncertain, but they shine bright with gratitude.

Zev watched as the scene unfolded, the tree moving as if alive, the Pokémon shedding their petrified state to become mobile and living again. They clustered around him and Bee, voicing thanks in their individual voices. A glance toward them was his only acknowledgement as he put down the watering can.[break][break]

"Have you seen these markings before?" the Beast asked Bee. "They remind me of Illumina Pokémon, but it's not quite the same."[break][break]

A Squirtle nudged Zev's leg. It yapped at him excitedly, its entire body shining with light.[break][break]

The corners of the scene began crumbling away, signifying a coming change.

"Are these not Illumina Pokémon?" Barnaby replied, unsure whether he was correct or not. He was no scientist, but he did remember when the Illumina phenomenon first appeared in Hoenn.[break][break]

"From what I recall, they were first seen after the Tree of Life and Xerneas returned..."[break][break]

So what was this simulation showing them? Were these the first Illumina Pokémon? There were so many what-ifs and little concrete information, given how fleeting all of these scenarios were.[break][break]

Speaking of which, this one, too, began to bleed into the next.

When the scene around them solidified, Zev did not recognize it. He had only visited Alola once before, and since the trip was short, he had been confined to Neffatari Nzingha's hometown.[break][break]

But their surroundings did not matter to him, for as soon as he and Bee approached the Xatu, they staggered under the weight of a psychic assault.[break][break]

Zev's mind opened as if a chest unlocked by the Pokémon's power. He resisted at first, unwilling to relinquish control over his thoughts and memories, but the Xatu overpowered him. It thrust an image into his brain, one wholly unfamiliar and unexpected.[break][break]
