Nothing in this place can keep up with them. There are many ways to skin a skitty. Navy chooses speed. Josh, he knows, will not protest this decision. Going along a route he practically perfected in the three months since he began investigating this place as Dewford’s sheriff and a lawfully appointed agent of the League, they move like the wind. Navy remembers his first ride on Josh’s Arcanine. What speed he felt, what speed. He feels the wind through his hair as Voyager goes at extremespeed. Were it not for the tightly secured reins, he’d break his neck from the whiplash.[break][break]
Geiger counters tick when they arrive at their destination. These two men, who run from their problems by outpacing them, are forced to halt. Before the magenta wall of the skeletal Fourth Son, they pause. A decision is demanded of them. Someone must make a sacrifice, or they must both share the load. When this decision was forced upon him before, he made the call decisively. Looking to Josh, he gives him the right to choose.[break][break]
“Alright, how you wanna play this?” The Master of Faster better make a decision quick. Angels are coming. This place is a hell not meant for creatures like Josh Devlin.

Josh was happy to see Navy choose speed; it made his decision easier. Astride Braver, his own Arcanine, who was running in tandem at full EXTREME SPEED, it was surreal to see the big dogs' normally blurred legs visible in the strange space that was the bottom of the Ultra Sea. The sense of speed was still as intense as ever.

The wall of the Fourth Son forced the two dogs to slide to a stop, Josh switching ride Pokémon to Saber, his Manectric. Clad in his SYGNA SUIT, the Mauville Gym Leader offered to take point. "There's only one way to play it. I'm the one with the protection of a SYGNA SUIT fueled by a thirteen year old bond with Saber. You know how strong our bond is from our battle. Now, I want to demonstrate it in a real field of war. Stand back!"

With that, Josh reined Saber forward, the SYNC STONE glowing as he put his BOLDEST face on.

Josh isn’t wrong. He’s got protection. He’s got a long-standing bond. Let him take that burden if he wants. His own body is sore from where it has been him before on excursions to the core. Turning back to the impending charge of monsters, who must by now be making a sport out of this, he tosses out Flora. His Blissey waddles up, not even chiding anyone yet. When she sees the dark energy surge into Josh, she throws out a heal pulse.[break][break]
“…huh.” Navy says with a raised eyebrow. “You know, she usually gets pissed off at people right about now.” Flora’s focused, staying near Josh. She’s too busy being a kind healer to be cruel to him. It’ll be slower work, but she focuses on healing him instead of fighting. Voyager barks his ascent. That bark finally sets his Pokemon off. She’s spewing profanities in the language of Pokemon and what does Voyager say to that?[break][break]

The two weren't at the Ultra Sea to fight; they were there to extract Dynite Ore for the League. Ultra Beasts began to surround Josh, his skin tingling as he and his Manectric continued to work on the extraction. His focus sharp as a blade, he simply ignored the pulsating walls as several Nihilego floated closer and closer to him. Saber left Josh to his work, turning around to attempt to scare the Ultra Beasts away with crackling electricity empowered by his trainer's suit.

What Josh wasn't prepared for was an assault on the mind.

As Josh felt the touch of one of the poison-type's tentacles, he began to hallucinate, one of his worst nightmares coming to "life". Red eyes, a grey crown, and a blue muzzle stared Josh down, its knife-like fangs pointed at a prone Saber's throat. "Why would you make me do this, Raikou?! You would really make me choose between you and Saber?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!" he wailed. While the Raikou was, of course, not real, to the one suffering from the mental attacks, it felt very real. The imaginary Beast's eyes were fixated on Josh, his thundercloud glowing yellow and white. In a bright flash only the Mauville Leader could see and a loud thunderclap only he could hear, he let out another shout before falling flat.

- Josh's suit doesn't protect much against mental attacks! He collapses as the Nihilego attacks him.

Nihilego surround Josh. These angels hearken another to join their chorus. Josh doesn’t seem to be Josh just then, to Navy. There is no grand hallucination. There is nothing spurring him to see Gabe when he looks at Josh. He simply sees his brother’s innocent smile as Josh cries out about Raikou.[break][break]
Shuwen exits his Pokeball. Navy, Flora, and the bear all charge towards Josh. They’re a united front. As they run, Navy riding on top of Voyager, Shuwen begins to glow. He surges with infinity energy, mega evolving.[break][break]
“ORAAAAAAAAAA!”[break][break]
These Nihilego do not stand a chance. One tries to sting Josh, inviting him into their chorus properly, but Shuwen grabs the tentacle. He crushes it in his hand. If there is any pain from this, he does not let it show. Instead, he turns his attention towards the others. His fists are a flurry of movement, a blur. This is a Pokemon that stands above all others. A fighter who has reached the mountaintop. This fighting Pokemon smashes, destroys, overwhelms.[break][break]
He is not Raikou, which rides swift as lightning. Shuwen is not Zacian, who cuts with a decisive blade. He is not Mew, from whom all life comes.[break][break]
Yet still, the bear is a legend. He shows his full power here, so close to the dyna crystals, bathing in infinity energy and the mega stones.[break][break]
Nothing touches Josh. Nothing comes close to touching Josh. Not while Shuwen draws breath. Not while he has two hands and his legs.[break][break]
“You need to get your shit together!” Navy pulls Josh up, slapping him across the face like he wishes he could have slapped Gabe. Just once, to knock sense into him. Raikou, the championship belt, they’re both delusions.[break][break]
“I need you, Josh! You can’t die here! We’ve gotta get home!”

The Nihilego's mental attacks took on a life of their own after Shuwen slapped and smashed all the Ultra Beasts out of the way. The power on display was incredible. If those two were to meet in true battle, it wouldn't even be close. Josh, even with Raikiri's power, wouldn't stand a chance. That fear manifest itself into a purple, Raikou-shaped shadow, creating crackling sounds and flashing with bolts of... venom? What in the world was going on?

Josh at first groaned, though he resumed proper riding posture not long after. "Thanks again, Navy," he sighed. "You really are like a big brother to me, aren't you? You're so strong. Stronger than--" He cut himself off. Those were exactly the kind of thoughts Melody Miro had warned him he would need to discard if he wanted to pass the Elite Test. The kind of thoughts FERNANDO SILPH warned him he would need to discard if he wanted any shot at landing a bond with Raikou.

His best was good enough. It was more than good enough.

Channeling great courage through the bond with his Manectric, a cylinder of static surrounded Josh and his mount, creating an ELECTRIC ZONE that greatly amplified the power of the DISCHARGE that washed over the Raikou-shaped pile of sludge.

"We're stronger than that," he pointed at the mock feline that struggled to maintain its form in the wake of the empowered surge. "Us. Not just you."

- Josh appreciates Navy for snapping him out of it and helping him face his fears.
- Stuffing his negatvity, Josh channels his SYGNA SUIT to create an ELECTRIC ZONE for an amplified DISCHARGE.

“Damn right.” Navy says with a nod, backing off, letting Josh have some space. It’s important they share the load. He has to take the lead some, too. Josh has the potential to be a hero….he just has to realize that potential.[break][break]
“Don’t show the world your neck. It’s all too ready to bite. Fight, Josh. Tell yourself you can be a Champion. You’re not second fiddle to anyone, you hear me!? You’re Josh Devlin! And you’re! Gonna! Be! Champion!”[break][break]
Shuwen, as always, knows Navy’s heart. Without a word, he jumps forward and plays his appointed part. With all his great strength, he grips at the shadowy cloud of Raikou. He holds it in place so that Raikiri himself can deal with the problem. Gripping them tight, the discharge hits the cloud. It explodes in a burst of force, leaving them standing there alone.[break][break]
The way forward is clear. There’s a path through the fog. Navy jumps onto his Cyclizar. Lizzy mewls out, smiling and happy to simply be there. Gripping the clutch, her wheel begins to spin and burn rubber.[break][break]
“We gotta get out of here, Josh, and quick. We’ll talk more once we’ve got some distance between us and the core.”[break][break]
Looking back at the magenta organ, Navy shouts up at it in a spiteful voice.[break][break]
“You hear that, Eternarus? Two future champs stole your damn ore!”

Still, through these translucent barriers, you catch a glimpse of a nearby planet. One that looks suspiciously like the one you all live in—except that a large portion of it seems covered in land.[break][break]

You must escape with your gathered material. Your ally or allies may be incapacitated by the paranoia settling in their psyches, or perhaps, the eldritch mutations beginning to metamorphose their body or bodies.[break][break]

Depending on how much your characters have mined, you may need to lessen your extracted load to ensure successful escape from this wretched place. After all, the horrors that reside here may make chase.

While Raikiri wasn't there to fight for Josh, the unique bond Saber and Josh shared brought out power that rivaled, perhaps even surpassed, the mythical thundercat. Being in the center of the DISCHARGE, yet his suit shielding him from it, gave him the same feeling he got when he was atop the electric Beast's thundercloud. It felt like the same level of power. The sheer power repelled the sludge-Beast, the facsimile of Josh's idol bursting.

The sight of it didn't even cause him to flinch.

"You don't control me anymore... Raikou."

Though Navy was brave, he seemed far from reckless, knowing when to call it quite. The nightmares escalated, the pink eyes trying to sow doubt in the racer's resolve. As he heard the screeching noise of Lizzy's air sac against the ground, Josh, too, had to put the pedal to the metal. "Saber, QUICK ATTACK!" he ordered... but the Manectric could not execute the move. Making the obvious choice between the loot and his life, Josh unhooked one of the two bags of ore from Saber's saddle and lifted the other in front of him to balance his mount long enough for them to get away.

"Not without your help, though," Josh reiterated. "I have a brand new strategy for each of them. Before I take on Kyle, though, I want to have a match with you. Not a Gym match. A real one. Where we hold nothing back."

- The DISCHARGE gives the duo the window they need to escape, Josh shedding about half his collected ore to give Saber the speed needed to QUICK ATTACK home.
