He wasn't sure if he was right, but he had a feeling the younger man wasn't entirely comfortable with the question. He couldn't say he got it. For him, death was just something that happened, something that was usually caused by him. Not that he would admit as much to someone like Josh. He had a feeling that wouldn't go over too well.

The two wilds along the trail did not interest Josh, either, letting the Togetic fly away. Even if he caught it to raise it, it was likely the haughty Mastema wouldn't approve of another Togekiss on the property. As helpful as the fairy-type was, that attitude of his got in the way quite a bit.

"If we go up there, we gotta turn back if you see a bunch of fog," Josh cautioned. "There's... really dangerous bird Pokémon up there." He wouldn't elaborate on his adventures with Eva Morales too much; they were so exotic and out there that he doubted Ryker would believe him. All that PIDGEOTITE falling into the wrong hands could be very bad, as well. "But barring that, let's go. Hopefully we can find a trail up there. Ares is still recovering."

He wasn’t scared of some bird Pokémon, but he nodded anyway. It wasn’t like he had much use for many bird Pokémon anyway. So he was pretty content to leave if he saw heavy fog. Besides, flying in conditions of heavy fog wasn’t exactly safe anyway.

“Sounds good to me,” he said, his gaze sweeping the terrain around them in the hopes of spotting a trail that could be used. One that could safely lead the way up to the summit.

Seeing something promising, he would point it out to Josh. “What about there?” he inquired.

If the older male agreed, he would start towards the trail he had spotted. However, he wouldn’t get too far before he caught sight of a Zorua below him.

Figuring it might come in handy, he eyed it to see what it would do. The Zorua would decide to greet them by deciding to use Night Daze against them, which Apollo would dodge by flying above the range of the attack before hitting it with a Flamethrower attack.

The trail Ryker pointed to was a long one, but it would get them up the misty peak. "That should work." Before he could get too far, a wild Maschiff charged Crash from behind, its small size making it difficult to hear its footsteps over the wind. By the time Josh realized what was going on, it was too late; the dark-type was already in a JAW LOCK with the Boltund. The Gym Leader slid down in before the bite wounds became too bad, the electric-type repelling the wild by PLAYING ROUGH with it.

"On second thought... maybe we should head to Mauville," Josh suggested. "I don't think simple rest is going to get Ares back on his feet."

It seemed that today wasn't the day. It was as if some unseen force didn't want them to reach the peak. Or at least, that's how it would seem if Ryker actually believed in that kind of stuff, which he didn't. No, it just seemed like luck wasn't on their side today, especially for Josh.
