he fails the execution and falls from his mantine. it is to be expected anyways since it was his first time actually doing tricks top of a mantine.

as he gets back on top of his mantine, he sees mateo martinez actually wearing the swimwear he got for him. it was actually sweet that he wore it, but also concerning that he didn't even bother to buy another one after seeing what it looks like. still he cheered from the waters as he awaited the next wave.

"is that the one and only mateo 'the dwagon master' martinez?" the distinct disinterested tone was there, followed by an equally monotonous scream as if to emulate fangirl screeches. "do a magikarp splash, idjit!"

he races off to the wave before mateo can even spot him and respond properly. a whale interrupts him from his course. kyle guides his mantine with the slightest movement of his feet away from it as he performs the only move he has any knowledge of.

[attr="class","starrytext"]washing up on shore. he stood, the mantine laughed at its rider's wipe. served him right. mateo, quickly, turned to shout, "i'll kill you!" and then he heard a random call out, he'd also respond, "die!" as he turned around to whomever said such a thing.

it was time to go again. this time they were going to make it, "we're going for a magikarp splash, don't hold me back this time you dumb fish! stop acting like a WHALE and follow my lead!" he'd hit it atop of the head again. the mantine, angrily, hissed. and so they were off to perform the MAGIKARP SPLASH.

Eleanor Bradamante had come here to do one thing and one thing only. To show these people the difference in their status and hers by executing a flawless Magikarp Splash.

Unfortunately, that hadn’t panned out so well for her.

Although she was ostensibly used to physical activity, surfing was something entirely different from martial arts. At least, that was what she told herself. She’d lost her footing halfway through the execution and had collapsed into the waves, making a sizable fool of herself. Her Mantine giggled – Eleanor resisted the urge to smack it over the head. Violence against Pokémon was extremely unbecoming of a lady such as hers.

Just as she began to mount her Mantine again, a whale of a disaster struck! A Wailord interrupted the ceremonies, crashing into view. Unfettered, Eleanor grit her teeth and attempted another Magikarp Splash, this time hoping to execute it properly.

the mantine picks her from the waves, and there's a fierce grin on the survivor's face. there's a trill for competition and challenge, and for the first time in a long time, her thoughts are clear of guilt and death. no, instead she wants to win - she wants to succeed. and despite her generally motherly attitude, she wanted to shove these people's face in the water and show them she could rise above, and in fact, she could be better then the ghost at the edge of everyone's minds. her gold eyes flashed with her determination, and she prepares herself, even as she hears the WHALE coming through. nothing will stop her.

Okay, so the first trick he performed went off without a hitch.

Lars was too busy riding the waves, watching as some landed their tricks, while others tried this impossible one and had wiped out so bad. Cringing slightly to himself, he turns his focus back on the waves—and very nearly crashes into the giant fucking whale that had suddenly decided to pop out of the wall of water he was riding on!

“Holy hell!” he shouts, swerving as hard as he can make the Mantine dodge while out on the water—now that his next few plans have been fucked up, he squints out over the waves. He starts looking for a nice, safe wall of water that wouldn’t have the risk of a fucking Wailord appearing from out of nowhere.

Ah, hell, now my plans are all messed up… he thought angrily as he braced himself and rode up the next wall of water. Hell knows how the Primarina Twist is done, but he’s going to try it.

And hopefully he doesn’t fall flat on his face.

He’s a child of the water, for Arceus’ sake!

So far, things were going great! He hadn't wiped once yet as he managed to land the move. His confidence building Theo was feeling a bit more daring than usual. The sight of the giant WHALE startled the young man but surprisingly didn't deter his path. He felt too good! Wanting to try something out of his comfort zone - Theodore attempted the not-so-easy OVER-THE-GYARADOS - hoping beyond hope that luck was still on his side.

”Whale damn!” Nash bellows our an entertained laugh at the competitors being interrupted from their tricks and surf by the whale Pokèmon. It’s immature of her, but she doesn’t care. Her stomach hurts as she laughs.

But then it’s her turn to perform her trick and she can’t help but hope she has just as good of luck as she did with her first trick. Time to try her luck at the Starmie 720.

The wind catches her hair and she.. she perfects the lanturn. The pair of them land back in the water with a splash, but Stormy's feet are still firmly placed in their stirrups. She wiggles a bit from side to side, finding her balance. Her arms are spread to either side of her as she cathces her breath.[break][break]

She almost whoops in excitement, thrilled that she had managed to not knock herself over and drown yet. Of course, she knew she wouldn't actually drown. The Mantine were supposed to be trained to catch them or rescue them should they fall.[break][break]

Unfortunately, just as she's about to open her mouth to shout her personal accomplishment, she catches sight of a familiar sprout of green hair faceplanting into the waves. Whatever he had been about to attempt had failed immediately. She didn't laugh however, instead feeling a pang of terror for him. The water had always been her enemy, and she immediately feared for his safety.[break][break]

That feeling soon melted into relief as another swimmer approached. She sort of recognized the woman as Olivia Abbiati, but was unhappy to witness the woman grow exceedingly close to Alex and plant a kiss on his cheeks. Stormy's cheeks immediately flare up with shock and disbelief, and she nearly topples over her Mantine.[break][break]

The Pokemon stables her and forces her to focus on the task at hand, performing sweet tricks. The pair sail up and down on the waves, gaining as much speed and momentum as they possibly can until..[break][break]

Stormy screams in surprise and terror as an incredibly huge WAILORD crashes the waves. Several swimmers are caught off guard, and so is she. Thankfully, maybe because she wasn't one of the first to attempt a jump, she clears hers. Regardless, this had become a WHALE of a situation in about 1 second.[break][break]

back to the crashing waves olivia went, noting the huge whale. she really needed a couple of those for sootopolis. nothing says blockade like a wailord. those were thoughts for a distant shore, and olivia needed to focus if she was going to succeed in her next move.

with her own high pitched whistle, olivia and the mantine attempted a starmie 720.

Pops always said: 'son, you're the greatest martial-artist to ever walk the earth. But your uncontrollable behavior towards females will inevitably hold you back. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow but you will eventually find yourself stunned by your own labors.' He wasn't wrong; but Pops was hardly ever wrong when it came to his son and his love for creatures of the opposite sex. Even in the middle of a surfing competition, he couldn't get his mind off the bombshell watching him on the beach—those 'fun-bags' bouncing with every cheer she gaze. Needless to say he completely and utterly bombed that first trick. He may have been down, but he was not out—like that one pretty boy from that one teenager movie said: Getcha' Head In The Game!

Chancelor eventually goes for another trick, this time giving it his all and utilizing the tips and tactics bestowed upon one of his sisters who happens to be a surfing champion in the Alola Region. He attempts the PRIMARINA TWIST!

Also there was a damn whale just having a swell ole' time in the middle of the competition, a Wailord... There is always something or someone trying to throw salt on a playa's game.

Madison had gotten too wrapped up in the idea of the surfing contest and watching the other riders attempt tricks that she completely forgot to actually hop on her borrowed mantine and join the competition. It wasn't until the giant whale pokemon came bursting out through the water that she actually snapped back to reality and realized she should probably join the contest.[break][break]

Taking off running Madison hoped on the back of a Mantine and began surfing in the competition, behind the whale so she had plenty of time to get out of the way. As she surfed along she did decide to move up the wave and try to get in a trick, going for a starmie in hopes of some decent points.

persephone hears it before she sees it; a low frequency drone. the WHALE's shadow breaches the waves quicker than persephone and her trusty mantine can react.

she clenches her jaw and urges the pokemon forward regardless because she is driven by the thrum of adrenaline alone. hopefully the mantine can clear the wailord with a STARMIE 720.

Right in the path that Balder was aiming for.[break][break]

"Guess it's all or nothing then. Let's go over it!" Balder directed his mantine towards the waves beside the wailord and began to ride them, aiming to jump over the creature. While in the air, he began the moves to do the move Over-The-Gyarados. Maybe it should be renamed to "Over-The-Wailord" for this case though? Hopefully, this time his trick will work.

The memorizing sight of the gigantic Whale pokemon crashing through the waves almost made her forget of the bitter taste of failure. Almost. Nearly falling off of her mantine as they unsuccessfully finished their 'over the gyarados' attempt, her ego hurt, if just a little...but, she wasn't down and out of the count just yet. Determined, she held onto her mantine, ushering it forth once more. This time, the pinkette attempted something a bit simpler; A Starmie 720
