he thinks he could do it, but his attention shifts at the last moment, and he comes crashing down with the waves the next moment.

he sees mateo martinez fail his move. a loud "hah" was the only thing he could respond to it with as the sharpedo catches his attention. he tries to get away from it, urging the mantine to ride the waves once more to escape it.

he uses the momentum and gets caught up in the moment to attempt another trick.

sharpedo jaws yawn from the water, glinting in the sunlight. persephone tenses but the speed of her mantine - hurtling back from the shore after her wipe out and into the fray - prevents her from maneuvering away.

the only natural and reasonable response is, of course, to perform a MAGIKARP SPLASH over the obstacle.

while she's airborne, persephone sees kyle lopez's blond hair a short distance away, though her sight is blurred from the speed and water in her eyes. upon landing, she searches the waves in case the young man needs assistance escaping the sharpedos.

Her own wipe out had her eventually letting out a laugh, once she'd swallowed her pride with some sea water to wash it down. But she felt a bit better after seeing FERNANDO SILPH fail his trick as well.

It was time to try once more. In a way, she just wanted to nail this stuipd Magikarp movie, but in another, she knew she should probably just play it safe...

Fuck it, Magikarp Splash was happening again, and she'd be damned if she fucked it up a second time. Though honestly, it'd be her luck.

[attr="class","eliaspost"]he may have brazenly tweeted about his surfing ability before the competition. and he may have stayed up the entire night prior stressing about performing such feats before such a wide audience. and because of this, he may have finally conked out sometime around four in the morning, sleeping well through the first leg of the competition.

but, of course, he's not one to let the media know this. he takes his time in the morning pampering himself, glowing himself up, oiling his tanned, sun-speckled skin, before he mounts ambrosia and makes his way to the beach.

a camera crew covering the event accosts him and he flippantly waves a hand. "i decided it's my day off and rather than spend it doing unnecessary, simple mantine tricks, i'd much prefer relaxing."

without much else of a story, the cameras turn back to the surfers. elias allows ambrosia back in his ball, knowing that the harsh summer sunlight isn't too nice to the noivern's eyes.

he traipses down the beach, watching the surfers as he goes. he tries not to feel contempt for himself (and fails). no doubt he could do much better than most all of them.

'eat shit, ALEXANDER STONE.' he stops short with a loud barking laugh and peers around the beach chair to see someone he actually recognizes. though the councilman is a little less inebriated than he was at the summer dance party, elias is sure they might still have a chance at some fun.

the chair he'd had slung across his back is propped into the sand right beside him. he flashes a smile at kim, winks.

with the successful landing, the energy suffuses her limbs and she feels good. so good. but it's not enough, because her eyes get drawn to persephone amavi. seeing the girl's successful trick, the silver-blonde felt her own blood rush again. this was too much fun! her golden eyes narrow, and she finds herself rapidly thinking on which move to go for. go for broke or... no, going that far and failing would crush her, and sink her chances. so she would have to be careful - well a little more careful then she's been. so with that decisions made, she finds herself rocketing forward, attempting an OVER-THE-GYRADOS to get past those pesky sharpedo. she had a competition to try and win, after all!

At least he wasn't the only one failing consecutively. kyle lopez and mateo martinez weren't doing any better either. That doesn't mean failing is any better. And with the sharks popping out, failing seemed to be a really bad idea.[break][break]

Getting back on Mantine, Balder decided to attempt a different trick. An easier one compared to the previous two, albeit still rather hard to pull, the Starmie 720. The man directed his mount to the highest wave, starting the spin over the flock of Sharpedos, hoping not to fall in them.

things seemed to get progressively worse much to theodore's chagrin. and things didn't seem to get any better. 'why now of all things?' glancing around while attempting to focus on the water and prepare for his own trick he noticed @nash pulling off a stellar trick of her own.

he was surprised to see she was in his competition, though part of him also wasn't surprised either. she is very much similar to what he remembered of her in his youth. but that was a tale for another day... over the roaring waves theo couldn't help but mumble a "you got this!" to Nash, knowing that no one would hear him anyways. as he attempted a PRIMARINA TWIST, theodore hoped he got this too.

olivia crashed into the sea, water splaying around her. it was a nostalgic feeling, a reminder of the many many times she was forced into the water by her older sister and other priestesses of the waters. regardless, she managed to climb back aboard to see sharpedo closing in around them. she didn't feel threatened by any means, her own carvanha was a soft little cry baby when not battling and paid them little mind; however, she did get to see ALEXANDER STONE fail once more.

perhaps it was her turn to try the fabled magikarp splash.

The breath is knocked from her lungs as she clears the Wailord. She and the Mantine crash back down into the waves, sea foam and salty water stinging her skin as they slowed their pace.[break][break]

Stormy looks behind her to see that several other contestants were not as lucky as she had been. Most of them seemed to be resurfacing with a mouth full of water just in time to catch their breath. The Wailord disappears not long after, apparently having done his job.[break][break]

Unfortunately, round three brings yet another dangerous obstacle. Mantine continues to propel them higher and higher on the waves, the wind tugging her sea-sprayed hair behind her. Stormy's eyes narrow in concentration as she watches several swimmers encounter and hopefully overcome the onslaught of Sharpedo.[break][break]

She briefly thinks to herself whether this was all a setup and they're all about to die, but shoves that large pit of fear deep into her toes, braving the worst.[break][break]

Glancing over her shoulder briefly, she watches Balder Schwartz attempt what looked like the starmie trick she had just performed earlier. It doesn't appear to go over well, and she quickly turns her attention back ahead of her, taking a deep breath as Mantine hops the next wave and begins the next trick.[break][break]

Mantine and Stormy attempt an OVER THE GYARADOS.[break][break]
