The windstorm headed Verte's way may have been Fairy-type, but it was still wind. There were very few Pokémon that could produce a more powerful wind than a Flygon could. "Brace, Andrea!" Josh warned his partner. This was gonna hurt Chomper, but it was gonna hurt Lam's team way more.

Planting his feet, Verte started to churn his wings loudly, sounding like a revving engine as they disappeared into streaks of green and red. The Flygon began to squint from flapping his wings back and forth so fast that they began to screech. He let out a loud cry as he gave one last push, his wingtips going supersonic long enough to loose a gigantic shockwave upon all other combatants in the form of a BOOMBURST.

While much of the Fairy-type attack was repelled, what little of it did get through took quite the toll on Verte. Burns covered his skin, particularly around his wings. He certainly wouldn't be able to do that again in this match. Hopefully Andrea wouldn't have to actually blame him if the friendly fire caused issues...

hydreigon manifests six additional heads of draconic energy then bites down on the opponent with all nine of its heads, able to hit FAIRY-TYPE POKEMON for SUPER EFFECTIVE DAMAGE.

The burns around Verte's wings looked painful, which made the instinctive defense against Alto's SUPERSONIC even more agonizing for him. Even so, dragon instinct was too mighty to suppress, particulatly in his confusion. The grating vibration continued as the pairs of screeching organs dueled like guitarists of a metal band. In his delirium, all the Flygon could do was flap and buzz his wings, agitating his burns even more. "Verte!" Josh shouted, followed by an incomprehensible command to use a move. No one would hear his drowned-out words.

The glowing energies surrounding Mallow and Chomper looked like clashing Z-Moves to the Gym Leader. He wished he could do more to help, but with his Flygon hysterically buzzing, there was little he could do. It was all up to Andrea Vaneau and her most special Pokémon!

The VENGEFUL HYDRA from Andrea rallied Verte out of his delirium and back to his senses. Even then, he was weak, his humming wings starting to wear out from going so hard in his confusion. Both dragons were fast, but the green one had the agility advantage. This was where another Boomburst would have worked so well, but Josh's partner was still hurting from the first one. A less intense attack would have to do.

What Josh didn't expect was Andrea to use her Sygna Suit in the middle of the match. "Wait, those are legal in Gym matches?" he asked, Verte grateful for the cover fire. It gave him the strength to keep fighting. Utilizing his hummingbird-like flight, Verte zipped toward the Noivern and attempted to grab onto his back. If he could do so, he would BUG BUZZ his wings as loud as he could, trying to overload the bat dragon's ears. The purpose of the attack was not to inflict damage, but to weaken or entirely disable its dangerous sonic attacks.

"Had I known they were legal in your challenge, I would have worn mine, too!" Josh added, his own suit doubling as his racing attire when his Manectric was near. He had left Saber back at Mauville Gym for some of his new hires to get used to. The true power of his suit couldn't be used in an environment like this anyway; to tap into that power, he had to do what he did best: saddle up and put the metaphorical pedal to the metal.

Josh began to protest. "Do you see what kind of condition Verte's--"

His Flygon cut him off, blood seeping from the scales around the base of each of his wings. The dragon again sounded like a race car's engine being pushed to its limits as they got up to speed, Josh having difficulty standing from the wind. "Don't!" he urged his Pokémon to stop. Verte let out a loud chirp, defying his trainer's orders as his wingtips went supersonic for a second time, flinging red goop everywhere. The longer he maintained the sonic burst, the more he bled. "VERRRRRRRRRRRTEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Josh wailed over the high-pitched whine, fearful that the dragon might suffer permanent wing damage from pushing himself so far.

The dizzy ground-type, having overdone it with sonic attacks, collapsed dizzily, blood pooling. Not wanting to see any more, the worried Gym Leader withdrew his second Pokémon, no doubt having to get exams done upon returning to the Pokémon Center. "Please, Andrea, don't let me down. Verte..."

Egg's dose of LIFE DEW stemmed the bleeding, but Verte was still whining in pain, his wing joints still aching something fierce. His Boomburst was a fearsome attack, but the method he used to create it, vibrating his wings so fast that his wingtips loosed a sonic boom, was incredibly stressful on his body. Even as a Badge winner, he had learned an important limit of the green dragon: Boomburst was not to be used more than once without a significant resting time.

Josh took a look at Verte's wings. The bases of them were still red, though the bleeding had by now stopped. While the swelling wasn't obscenely large, it didn't look healthy. "I'll need to get him to a Pokémon Center as soon as I can. Andrea, think you can give me a lift there on one of your dragons?" he asked.

Regardless of whether he would be flying or taking a cab, Josh stepped forward to accept the spoils of victory. "Hey, I learned the limits of Boomburst today, too. Even as a candidate for Champion Rank, I'm still learning. Even as a Champion, I will still learn. And even once I am a Champion, I will still challenge new Gyms that pop up. They need inspections, too!" he laughed, recalling when kyle lopez was Josh's first challenger as a Minor Leaguer.

Soon, he would return the favor to new Gym Leaders.
