The more they thought about it, maybe a minotaur in a ghostly, snowy maze didn't make all that much sense. Maybe some kind of yeti or abominable snowman, instead.

But, that train of though is quickly stopped when Makoto responds- and for a moment, a relieved smile flashes across her face. She takes Makoto's hand in her own, pulling herself up onto Yurei's back, behind Makoto. She settles down after a moment, wrapping her arms around their waist to keep steady. "Thank you, darling. It...feels like things may go smoother, having a friendly face around." After all, two heads are often better than not, right? At least, she's willing to admit that this time around.

The message was... cryptid, and concerning... Needless to say it wasn't something that could just be left alone. Yuina was a ranger now, she had to take charge of situations, and that meant investigating potential threats, whatever they could be...[break][break]
Trekking out into the wilds of Mt. Pyre, sat astride Ayashi's broad shoulders, Yuina made sure to find the appropriate meeting place that was mentioned, and even though the woman who regarded them all was kind in face, she was malicious beneath it all as it turned out... A blizzard rushed the area, ice and snow took over every surface, and now it was a fight for their lives within the confines of a maze made from malice and an evil cold that was biting and gnawing in the darkness of the night.[break][break]
Huddled close atop Ayashi, Yuina shivered as her breath clouded in front of her face, she had no choice but to try and find their way through this maze lest she succumb to the cold. The deer's hooves were proving useful, the cloven steed able to clomp along the snowy surface, but his movement only attracted attention...[break]
A hulking figure burst from the snow, scaring both Yuina and Ayashi as the deer reared back with huffing breaths from his nostrils, and Yuina could swear it was a Yeti of some kind as it loomed at them, but as snow fell from its figure and it rushed at them, it was a Golurk that was trampling through the maze. Yuina grabbed onto Ayashi to regain themselves and motioned for the deer to head off in the other direction, if she could avoid it she didn't want to try to fight anything yet... They needed to save their strength...

Yuina Higashi was not the only one startled by the ghost - cause as the not-Yeti Golurk trampled along, it would end up crossing El's path as well! Heidrun bleated loudly, rearing up as she tried to 180 away from the ghost-type; but Baron was able to 'convince' the massive construct to leave them well alone with a well-aimed Night Slash.

It took a second for El to regain control of Heidrun - but when they did, they'd take notice of the fellow Ranger ahead, recognizing her. "O-oh, hey!" They'd call, spurring Heidrun onwards to catch up with Yuina and Ayashi both. There was the occasional tremor in their words - no doubt caused by the occasional shivers they had. "You g-got wrapped up in this, too..?" No duh, of course - but El would provide a sympathetic smile. "W-we oughta stick t-together, just in case..."

The both of them would be much safer if they could watch eachothers' backs, right?

Were this any other situation, such as the two of them not being stuck in a wintry purgatory, perhaps one could make jokes about Rudolph or a sleigh ride for two. But even in such a perilous situation... Makoto can't help but find their cheeks warming some, as they feel arms settling around their waist and a warmth against their back.

This thief was far too touch-starved for their own good, send help.

But as Sio speaks, they force down the fluster to instead smile to them and nod. "We can put our heads together, at the very least - though... I don't have much of a clue which way to go right now..." They were just keeping on moving, choosing any paths that looked new. Staying in one place wouldn't serve anyone, after all - and surely, one of these paths would lead the right way, right...?

If not jokes about that certain reindeer, then perhaps something more..merry. Singing little carols, sharing drinks and cheer, all of that sounded fun- like the kinds of things she'd be more than happy to do in the other's company.

One thing that Ettie could see as a silver lining, at the very least, was all of the snow painting the world white. Certainly, it took a bit of adjustment for her to adapt to the ever-colder winters that Hoenn was experiencing; finding ways to bundle up, to find more food, and to keep her packmates warm as well, for instance.

But once those hurdles had been surmounted, Ettie found that she fucking loved snow. It could range from soft, fluffy, and fun to just bulldoze through and throw about... To something sturdier, that she could crunch and shape into stuff like snowmen!

And indeed - when there weren't scary ghosts about, Ettie was happy to play at the snow as they trekked along, to keep her mind off of things...

Coming to another intersection in the maze after having stomped off away from the ghost type that would have attacked them, Yuina shivered again as her breath clouded in front of her, ice hanging from every tree branch and snow covering every inch... It was impossible to tell which direction was which, every surface looked the same covered in the snow...[break][break]
Standing there for a moment, as Ayashi's hooves stomped idly in the snow, the deer's ears flicked and he huffed with clouding breath, looking out at the sound of something coming towards them. And by some miracle, Yuina couldn't believe it was someone that she recognized.[break]
"El? T-th-thank goodness... I th-thought I-I wouldn't be... able to find anyone else," Yuina was relieved, speaking between the shivers that overtook her, it was lucky now that she hat least had a partner that they could go through the maze together... Hopefully...

The woman who was talking to them seemed more ghost than person. Whisking everyone away in a winter swirl, talking cryptically about time and being trapped forever… Those weren't things typically left to the living.[break][break]

Still, there was nowhere to go but forward. Following her instructions was the only way to not die in a blizzard, even if she'd taken them in the first place. They'd all decided to do what a mysterious text had told them too, not to mention… they had nobody to blame but themselves.

Makoto couldn't help a soft chuckle of their own in response - casting Sio a brief glance before they turned their attentions back to the path ahead. "And when we get out... We, uhm, ought to put something nice and warm on our stomachs..." They mused - something like hot cocoa or a nice stew sounded good to them, in this cold...

... But, the first step to getting out of here was coming into view it seemed like - a distant marker or landmark of some form. Eager to investigate, Makoto would gently spur Yurei on.

El cast Yuina Higashi a warm smile as they approached, seated on their Gogoat's back. "H-Holiday miracle, perhaps?" They mused out loud - attempting to bring some levity to the situation with a light joke.

But all that being said, it was clear to see that the both of them were pretty cold out here... But Yuina seemed to be freezing, comparatively! Taking a second to dig through their bag, they'd pull out an emergency blanket that they'd toss up to her. "Here- this should h-help some."

She seemed like she needed it more than them...

(Authors note; I figure I'll hold off on checkpoint-ing until you're just about ready to do it :3!)

But, the snow wasn't the only thing that Ettie appreciated in her attempts to ignore that ever-present sense of unease. There were also the icicles that gleamed above, clinging to the branches of the trees. They glittered in the limited light, alongside the sparklling snow...

Ettie let out a soft exhale, finding herself a bit more centered, in appreciating the scenery. And perhaps it was a good thing, too - as off in the distance, she could see something different from the trees and the like. But it was hard to tell what it was quite yet...

Why did he feel like he was being chased by that masked killer from a certain movie franchise that made phone calls before attacking the longer he wandered through this mess of a maze…

He was deliberating laying down a piece of red string to mark his path so far, however he had a feeling that there were more malevolent forces at play…
