There was anxious mumbling in the air, children crying as they were directed away from their homes and onto the rescue ships that were sent to Sea Mauville to recover the individuals on the collapsing island. Montgomery's brows were furrowed, waving people along as he walked up to Navy.

"Who woulda thought somethin' like this would happen with war loomin' over us?" he muttered to his sheriff, watching as one of the structures began to crumble in the distance.

For a guy who seems to pride himself on being rough around the edges, Montgomery is quick to volunteer for these gigs. It makes Navy smile. The Sheriff has been hovering near the edge of the group, watching the distant ghosts fade in and out of existence. None yet approach, especially given the Pokemon he has out on patrol.[break][break]
“If it ain’t one thing, it’s another. Been telling people for a year Sea Mauville needs some serious work.” It almost collapsed when Kyogre first went on its rampage. Before then, it was filled to the brim with ghost Pokemon and hallways that gave way to rust. Navy sees what they deal with today as simply an overstretched government reaping what it sows.[break][break]
“Thank you all for your cooperation.” Navy smiles at the crowd of folks boarding the boats. “Deputy James wants y’all to know that he’ll take on all comers at the arcade tonight if you guys mind your manners.” That placates the children, who whisper among themselves about how anyone could hope to beat Montgomery in an arcade shootout.

[attr="class","monty"]"Yeah, well... could've picked a better time," Montgomery mumbled, wishing that he had a glass of alcohol and a cigarette to enjoy right now. Instead, he rolled his sleeves up as the summer heat began to make him sweat.

The sheriff makes some sort of announcement to those boarding the ship, taking the deputy by surprise. "Hey... this ain't gonna be on my PD right? Right?" Surely something as expensive as taking a bunch of kids to an arcade would be placed on the police department's credit card.

Looking out toward the emptying city, Montgomery released SKARMORY. The metallic bird flapped his wings, waiting expectantly for his order.

"Scout ahead. Look for stragglers or threats," he ordered. The bird took to the air, sunlight reflecting off its metallic body.

Running in the Skarmory’s shadow is a miniscule Greninja. Hattori runs along, surveying on the ground where he can while the trainers follow. There’s still people to be saved and Pokemon to be subdued. Their work is never done.[break][break]
“Oh yeah, wouldn’t dream of makin’ you pay a few quarters out of your paycheck.” Navy’s laugh is as dry as the Orre desert. “They’ve got a real fun shootin’ game. One with zombies, like out of those old Unovan flicks. Real Day of the Dead type stuff.”[break][break]
Speaking of the dead, Hattori locates Gastly waiting to ambush any humans unfortunate enough to pass by. What the ghosts weren’t expecting was a creature willing and able to play the part of one of their own. Their shadows bubble and Hattori’s hand strikes them with a decisive chop. Each of them, thus hit, falls to the ground unconscious.[break][break]
“That’ll make our lives easier. Your Skarmory see anything?”

[attr="class","monty"]"Stop tryin' to make me soft," Montgomery muttered, though he was even more tempted at the preface that there was a game that he could probably master as easily as he did his gunslinging.

SKARMORY returned in a matter of moments, cawing into the air. The fact that he circled and turned back toward the direction he'd flown in was a sign that he'd spotted something.

"Let's follow. He's seen somethin' distressing enough to come back and get us." Montgomery jogged under his Pokemon's shadow, the shadow from above giving the appearance that he had wings of his own.

SKARMORY led them to one of the collapsed buildings, where he heard pleas for help. "They're trapped." He released BRELOOM, indicating for her to chop away at the debris. She did so with a resounding BRICK BREAK.

It does wonders for morale.” His smile betrays nothing, least of all how serious the remark truly is. They’re drawn back into far more serious matters by the sounds of people screaming, trying desperately to escape their unfortunate circumstances.[break][break]
“Roland, back Breloom up.” It’s a command he doesn’t need to give, but all the same, he gives it for Breloom and Montgomery’s sake. Roland is strange, as far as a lawman’s Pokemon goes. He seems like some robo knight out of a far flung tale. Painted up like a Gardevoir undergoing its mega evolution in honor of a fallen brother, the one-armed knight gets to work carving apart debris alongside Breloom. His psycho cuts are always precise, and his blade is sharp.[break][break]
“We’ll be there soon!” He assures those trapped on the other side. “Stay calm!”

[attr="class","monty"]That comment only earned Navy a side eye. He decided not to press the matter, since they had more important things to do. But he wondered... was that really what kept morale up?

Kinda dumb.

Navy's Pokemon joined BRELOOM in clearing up the debris. However, it was an odd color, painted over the previous metal coating. "That thing looks right out of space thriller," he pointed out before going in to get his hands dirty.

Once there was space, Montgomery was able to start pulling pieces of debris out of the way himself as well, exposing the trapped civilians. He offered a hand, pulling one up. "Thank you! But that woman, she's hurt! I don't know if she can move!"

"Navy, can ya signal for medical personnel?"

“That thing’s name is Roland.” He says with more of an edge in his voice than he intends. His sharp defense of his Pokemon earns him a curious look from the iron knight, though he presses on with his task. Roland is not in the business of voicing gratitude.[break][break]
“Er. Roland n’ I have been through a lot together. A whole lot. He had a brother, a Gardevoir named Olivier. Olivier died in an awful, awful battle. He wanted to be painted like that to honor Olivier.”[break][break]
They step inside, Navy’s eyes surveying and finding the injured woman just as the injury is voiced to him. With a short nod, he complies with Montgomery’s suggestion. Stepping outside, Roland follows.[break][break]
“Send up a signal.” Though he has no flare, Roland’s thunderbolt, sent up high into the sky, serves well enough. A second follows the first, just to make sure that whoever’s out there sees them and will be along shortly.[break][break]
“Looks like a flier’s already headin’ this way. It’ll all be over soon.”

The signal was sent above head, bringing attention to the collapsed building. He heard the telltale signs of help on the way.
