A dozing Slaking presents the next problem, and Orion nods his thanks to the eerie anchor before returning it to its pokeball, and returning that pokeball to the rotomi.[break][break]

From his belt, he retrieves Tiamat's pokeball and sends her back out. The Flygon seems surprised yet delighted to have been sent out again so soon after the first time, letting out a trilling hum and affectionately nudging Orion with her tail.[break][break]

"Careful," he laughs. "Can you wake him up for me?"[break][break]

Pointing to the Slaking, Orion directs Tiamat's attention away from him.[break][break]

"Plug your ears, guys..."[break][break]

Tiamat's soft, pleasant trill escalates into an UPROAR of sound, shaking the room with its intensity.

They reach the next floor relatively easily.

All Katherine can think of is how close they are to the floor they've last reached. This time, she assured herself that things would be different and they'd manage to overcome that obstacle too. Their current task seemed easy and it is no surprise that she takes Exploud's pokeball from the rotomi. He was a recent capture and a newer addition to her team, but he was more than capable.

"Were you busy sleeping?"

The pokemon looked as if he had just woken from a deep slumber. "Well, this shouldn't take long. I promise you can go back to sleep after that." Kat's smile is a genuine one, and it's enough to convince the Exploud to direct his attention towards the sleeping Slaking.

"Wake him up with an UPROAR."

And as if on cue, the purple pokemon began to shout with a loud and stomp around. It was obnoxious really– and just enough to awaken any sleeping pokemon.

Vibrava (Arena Trap): Uproar | Sandstorm | Laser Focus | Superpower | Earth Power | Dragon Breath

Seeing Orion's Flygon emerge brought to mind the events that transpired during the New Year's Festival in Slateport. Particularly the death (or sacrifice, depending on how one saw it) of his own first Flygon, Psamathe. He'd never spoken about it to anyone else, of course. Even though he could certainly see himself opening up to Isra about the events that had transpired in full... if she'd ever brought them up, of course. But, alas, Psamathe had been put in the back of his mind these days.

... Mostly.

The truth of the matter was, she'd shown him how useful and powerful a properly trained Flygon could really be. And this, in turn, had inspired him to find and capture a Vibrava he'd named Teferet. After retrieving her ball from the rotomi and summoning her, the master and his pokémon followed the same tactic his peers had. Remiel, briefly, lowered his hands from his ears just to deliver the same command. "Uproar."

Teferet, in the meantime, took a moment to curiously flutter around the Flygon for a moment before buzzing off towards the Snorlax. Then, after opening its mouth, it unleashed a screech that seemed far too explosive and loud for a creature of its size. The Snorlax was rousing awake now because of it, however. All they needed was a little help from Ruby's chosen partner to wake it up.

TEFERET used UPROAR — The user attacks in an uproar for three turns. During that time, no Pokémon can fall asleep. When Uproar is initially used (i.e. when the user is not already making an uproar), any sleeping Pokémon on the field are woken up (even if they have the Ability Soundproof or are not adjacent to the user).

Oh, Whisper would have hated this floor. She can already tell. Just by the prompt alone. It wasn't until everyone else sent out their pokemon and began a proper bombardment of sound did it really hit her. It was a good thing Whisper was in the PC right now for this challenge, otherwise, she would have came out and... Well, enough thinking about that. They had the challenge to win.

Ruby was quick to send out her Darmanitan. While not strictly psychic, when damaged it reverted into a statue with psychic type properties, so it definitely counted in her mind. With a nervous twinge, Ruby suddenly spoke. "D-Danny! Join them, Uproar!" And with that, she immediately covered her ears. The rambunctious Pokemon was quick to join them, shouting out with an intensely loud sound. Honestly, Ruby was worried about glass shattering from all the yelling, let alone just waking someone up.

Notes: Danny used Uproar. Uproar wakes sleeping targets.

They had finally arrived.

Back on the floor they had reached prior, before one of their own had made a miscalculation, Remiel was somewhat surprised to see the same Kabutops waiting for them. Was it a permanent resident of this floor? They had altered a few of the challenges previous. Had it had all been a luck? Or did the administrators simply want to affirm that this group had learned their lesson?

The stormy-eyed prince shifted a nonchalant gaze in Katherine's direction, wondering what she had in store this time. Her ditto had been so foolish as to transform into the enemy and flounder about when they'd needed it most. So that one certainly wasn't going to cut it. Regardless, the black-haired royal turned back ahead and tossed the luxury ball he had just retrieved from the rotomi.

The mighty Pinsir that emerged was the same one as before. Its eyes analyzed the familiar Kabutops ahead of it as it stomped its feet and waited for a command. Its MOLD BREAKER ability was already brewing in its mind. "Storm Throw." Remiel commanded, sending it forward in a rush before it captured the Kabutops in a vice with its horns, landed its critical hit, then slammed it back down onto the floor before backing away.

A familiar floor, a familiar challenge.[break][break]

Was this a milestone or a mockery of their failure? Orion isn't sure. What he is sure of is this: his own strategy had not been the one to fail them, and it would work just as well a second time.[break][break]

The Throh is sent out once more, and it sizes up a familiar opponent.[break][break]

MOLD BREAKER allows it to find chinks in the Kabutops' battle armor. Throh follows the lead of the Pinsir before it, delivering a devastating blow with STORM THROW before bowing and stepping back.

She came prepared this time.

There was no chance she'd be leaving it up for Ditto to mess up and transform into the wrong target again. This time, Katherine comes equipped with a particular Pokeball and a pokemon who's been captured for this specific task. Pancham is released from within the device without a second thought, it seems.

Naturally, Kat still feels embarrassed. She messed up last time and it still burned brightly in her mind.

Pancham, however, carried no worries or concerns. He bit on his leaf before looking back to his trainer, seeking an order from her. "Go ahead, you know what to do." He was prepared for this occasion, wasn't he? The small, panda-like Pokemon uses STORM THROW, managing to find a weak spot in the fossil-pokemon's armor.

Here they were again. Back at this floor. The challenges would only be getting harder from here on out. However, with the sight of the additional Pancham amongst their midst instead of a Ditto, Ruby immediately felt much better about their chances. She didn't blame Katherine Fairburne for her mistake last time, but seeing her quickly bounce back with a proper solution was a wonderful quality.

Ruby smiled softly, trying not to allow her excitement to overcome her as she sent out Brutus once more. Ever rowdy and rambunctious as ever, Ruby wasted no time in sending them out to attack the Kabutops. "Brutus, Storm Throw!"

Brutus would charge at the Kabutops, their ability Mold Breaker defying their foe the chance for their armor to be useful at all, with Storm Throw landing an incredibly precise hit at a weak spot amongst the armor.

Notes: Brutus used Storm Throw. Guarantees a critical hit. Battle Armor is negated by Mold Breaker.

an old man stares at you all. he offers no congratulations, no celebration or joy. instead, he grumbles, as if irritated that he has to leave his stone seat. not a lot of people have reached this height, it seems.[break][break]

clearing his throat of thorns, the man explains the challenge: "STRIKE MY BOY, FERRORO. AT LEAST 15 TIMES. SAME RULES AS ALWAYS. 'CEPT FER ONE THING. DON'T LET YOUR POKEMON GET HURT." the ferroseed does not stir. it does not move. is it even alive?[break][break][break]

Ah, there it was. The feeling of embarrassment and guilt left Katherine's body with a relieved sigh as the group proceeded to climb the stairs to the next floor.

They've overcome the Kabutops at last. And she hoped she wouldn't have to face it again - not even once.

"Fifteen times..." The number is repeated, Katherine humming aloud as she considers which pokemon fit the task the best. She is fortunate enough to be given a loan, and the rotomi grants her a Pokeball she only temporarily owned.

"I am not sure what's your name, but you'll do the trick. Use ICICLE SPEAR."

The Cloyster looked back at Katherine as if a bit puzzled, but at the sight of the Ferroseed - it knew what it was here for. Five different spears of ice are conjured and then promptly shot at the grass-type.

"There, I got five covered. We only need ten more."

Ferrero... wasn't that the name of a delectable chocolate? Regardless, Remiel doubted the Ferroseed buried in the zen garden was sweet.

He would need a pokémon that could cast a succession of attacks reliably and quickly. But, more importantly, one that could do so from a distance. The Ferrothorn's, well... thorns, made it abundantly clear that any physical contact would result in harming one's self. So, once it was his turn, the royal withdrew the only pokémon in his arsenal that fit the parameters required.

Marilyn was a rather unassuming Cinccino. Most expected her to be nothing more than a lap pokémon, content to lounge about indoors and want for nothing. They were, of course, mostly right. But the little lady could hold her own in a battle as well, if required. She emerged from her luxury ball's burst of golden light and made sure her fur looked good before turning over her shoulder to regard her trainer. "Bullet Seed."

Then, with an already fed-up look in her eyes, the luxurious chinchilla turned back to the Ferroseed as her cheeks began to inflate with seeds. Using her ability, SKILL LINK, Marilyn assaulted the half-sunken durian with an unwavering barrage of seeds, not stopping until her cheeks were once again deflated. At which point she huffed and turned back around, demanding to go back.

As refreshing as it is to be faced with a new floor, a new challenge, it is also daunting. Ferroseed's spines catch the light, its unmoving figure suggesting a deceptive simplicity. Those thorns are sharp, however, and sure to wound any that come into contact.[break][break]

The Pokemon that Orion sends out is equally immobile. Shellder's tongue lolls out from the darkness, unblinking eyes fixed dead ahead.[break][break]

Much like Katherine, the councilman has barely had the time to get acquainted with this new ally. He can only hope that it understands the importance of its task.[break][break]

"ICICLE SPEAR."[break][break]

The shell slams shut, then creaks open once more. From somewhere within, it summons five identical spears of ice — its SKILL LINK allowing it to attack with maximum efficacy. From a safe distance, out of reach of the Ferroseed's thorns, Shellder fires all five spears into its foe.

They had finally did it. Pushed past the floor they had problems with last time! Ruby's smile was a mile wide, despite the rather rude man who was waiting for them. This was their chance to show their true skill and strategies! Even if they didn't make it to the top, she definitely wanted to push as far as they could possibly go.

Ruby was quick to send out her Cinccinno, affectionately called Sugar. While she was admittedly more interested in cleaning things than actually battling, her ability Skill Link would ensure that any multi-hit moves would strike as much as possible. Reaching down to affectionately pat her Pokemon's head, she watched the others blast away with their own attacks before ordering Sugar to begin. "Bullet Seed!"

Sugar let out a cry before shooting the seed projectiles at the Ferroseed. It wasn't super effective at all, but the sheer amount of seeds was pretty impressive. That had to be more than 15 with them all combined! Didn't it?

Notes: Sugar used Bullet Seed. It does not make contact with the Ferroseed. Skill Link ensures it strikes 5 times.
