Katherine has a couple of pokemons that fit the bill for this particular task: but she chooses one she hadn't used for any of the challenges until now. Pincurchin is sent out, and he seemed happy to be here.

Orion palms his Shedinja's Pokeball in preparation as their task is laid out before them, but one of the girls is quicker on the draw.[break][break]

His thoughts shift gear, and the councilman glances around the room with an almost apologetic frown.[break][break]

"Gonna get a bit more cramped, sorry guys."[break][break]

His Dragonite appears at one of the far ends of the room, making every attempt to be as small as a seven foot hulking dragon could be. At Orion's instruction, the Dragonite -- aptly nicknamed 'Leviathan' -- directs her attention skyward and summons a devastating burst of THUNDER that echoes loudly through the room. Orion flinches at the sound; his hearing has been more sensitive since he'd ruptured a drum during the New Years attack.[break][break]

Pinchurchin, at least, is unharmed.

A simple enough challenge, although it was quite clear they were only getting more and more difficult as they continued. Ruby simply smiled as she watched Katherine Fairburne interact with her Pincurchin. What a cute Pokemon indeed. With them volunteering to have the one Pokemon carried, Ruby was quick to select her pokemon and sent her out. Titan the Aggron came out with a loud roar, but Ruby knew her to be more of a gentle giant. She'd walk over to her side, gently patting the Aggron's arm as she spoke. Titan certainly looked a bit embarrassed to be put on the spot so suddenly. With a bit of a gentle reassurance from Ruby, they finally nodded as their trainer stood back. They were much too heavy to be carried up into the air via Sky Drop, part one done!

"Titan, use Thunder!" Once again, Titan let out a loud cry as lightning streaked through the sky and struck the Braviary high in the air, leaving the Pincurchin completely unharmed.

Notes: Aggron weighs 793.7 lbs and is unable to be lifted by Sky Drop. Thunder strikes targets in the semi-vulnerable phase of Sky Drop, and Pincurchin is immune.

The challenges were getting more and more complicated. The crown prince relished in this fact, and was quick to plot their next course of action with his teammates. After using the rotomi nearby, he sent out a shining Aggron.

After the Pinchurchin was carried up into the sky by the Braviary, Amiya was the last to deliver her own attack on the flying bird. "Thunder." Remiel commanded, prompting the iron giant to summon a lightning bolt from above. The Pinchurchin's Lightning Rod ability would, naturally, draw it towards it. But, in turn, it would shock the big bird.

AMIYA used THUNDER — A wicked thunderbolt is dropped on the target to inflict damage. This may also leave the target with paralysis.

Orion takes an instinctive step back as they are confronted by a hissing Salazzle... and no trainer in sight. Was that part of the challenge? The councilman's brow furrows as he sweeps the room with his gaze.[break][break]

Then a boy kicks down a wall, and Orion jumps.[break][break]

Laughing, he admits, "Good one."[break][break]

Poison-coated spikes fill the room, and Orion is careful not to step on any himself as he makes his way over to the rotomi and retrieves a Pokemon from the machine. His own Salazzle is sent onto the field; like her opponent, her poison was CORROSIVE.[break][break]

At a command from her trainer, she fires a glob of TOXIC at the other Salazzle.

Poison; a viscous and troubling element.

Remiel is unamused when the young boy jumps out to greet them, and instead observes the mystifying hues of purple inhabiting the room while he speaks. When their challenge is finally made clear, the royal takes a moment to think before knowing exactly which pokémon to draw. He strides to the rotomi, uses it for a few moments, then returns with a luxury ball in hand. When he casts it, a spinning Claydol emerges, dancing in the air and completely unfettered by the spikes.

"Rapid Spin." Remiel speaks, watching as Hammurabi proceeds to clear said spikes with a powerful and mechanical spin. The wind whips throughout the floor, sending the spikes skyward so quickly that most of them have embedded themselves into the ceiling. Expecting his teammates to meet the rest of the requirements for victory, both Claydol and trainer observe afterwards. The former with more eyes than one.

HAMMURABI enters the field and is unaffected by TOXIC SPIKES thanks to its ability, LEVITATE

It doesn't take long for Katherine to decide which partner was necessary for this task. After all, she was standing right in front of her. A Salazzle they needed to poison could only be poisoned by one of her kind.

After fetching the right Pokeball from the Rotomi and sending out Cinder, the lizard-like pokemon hisses at the sight of not one more of her kind– but two. Orion had a Salazzle of his own, it seemed. "Come on, Cinder. It isn't the time for that. POISON GAS on the other Salazzle."

The Rocketess draws a breath before narrowing her eyes some, "And don't even think about poisoning the one who's working with us."

Poison. It was not a type that Ruby was used to dealing with outside of her Slowbro. Regardless, it seemed like that wasn't a problem. Part of the challenge was to just remove the poison spikes that filled the floor, a task she could handle. Ruby was quick in sending out her Claydol. The many-eyed figurine-like pokemon looked all around the room, it's ability Levitate keeping it from touching the floor and completely untouched by the Toxic Spikes down below.

It turns out, someone else also had the exact same pokemon for the exact same purpose it seemed. One of her partners in this journey also had a Claydol. Curious, yet focused on their challenge, her eyes returned back to her Pokemon. "Dizzy, use Rapid Spin!" True to their name, the Claydol was quick to spin around at an impressive speed, assisting the previous Claydol in clearing the entire field of spikes.

Notes: Claydol's Levitate avoids the Toxic Spikes, Rapid Spin removes them.

As it happened, Orion had the perfect Pokemon for their next task; he didn't even need to browse the internet, nor consult his bag full of items to make it work.[break][break]

Lanturn appears on the field, hovering slightly in the air for lack of water in which to swim. She looks displeased with the circumstances under which she's been summoned, and Orion offers an apologetic grimace.[break][break]

When Pocky is sent out, she's a bundle of joy. Cheerful and excited to see her trainer, she leaps towards Katherine without a moment of hesitation– and the Rocketess can't help but roll her eyes and smile.

Wasn't this boy the absolute cutest? Ruby had never actually held a Pincurchin in her hands before, but they were truly absolutely adorable. It took everything in her not to absolutely fawn over the cutie within her hands, knowing that he had a job to do. With a wide smile, Ruby set him down and stepped back as the challenge truly began in earnest.

His ability, Lightning Rod, would cause the now electric type attack from the Deluge'd Perish Song to be absorbed. Charged with electricity, Pompom let out a cry as electricity crackled between their spines ready to respond with an attack of its own. Of course, that wasn't necessary for this challenge. Regardless, Ruby had to remind herself not to reach over and give them a pat well done. That would hurt.

Notes: Lightning Rod raised the Special Attack of Pincurchin when hit by Electric Type attacks.

Alolan Marowak (Lighting Rod): Rage | Protect | Flare Blitz | Bonemerang | Focus Energy | Swords Dance

With a rental from one of his teammates, Orion, Remiel begins this next challenge with a tinge of wariness in his eyes. He doesn't know the Alolan Marowak that emerges from the tossed ball personally. It clearly hasn't been disciplined as well as his own had been, entering the stage before it in a wild dance of blue flames. But, regardless, he was assured it possessed the ability LIGHTNING ROD, which would render the Gengar's Perish Song null and void after the Ion Deluge set in.

That being said, Spectra the Alolan Marowak didn't have to really 'do' anything. Still, even as she waited, the pokémon seemed content to continue dancing. As undisciplined as she was, compared to his own, her mastery of her 'bonemerang' was actually rather impressive. Remiel smiled.

SPECTRA is immune to Electric-type attacks thanks to its ability, LIGHTNING ROD, and has its SPECIAL ATTACK raised when struck by an Electric-type move instead — The Pokémon draws in all Electric-type moves. Instead of being hit by Electric-type moves, it boosts its Sp. Atk.
