It felt too soon. They were supposed to have more time than this.

While everyone else was focused on the Tree of Life, Locke scanned the skies, searching desperately for the Pokémon they knew was fated to be here. They had no plan for what they would if they saw it. Fight back against whatever otherworldly being sought to destroy it without any power of their own? Try to convince it to leave? They weren't even sure if the god of death had an Avatar to reason with, much less if the legendary itself would listen to a mere human's warnings.

But the urge to do something pushed them forward, even as they watched the sky they loved grow endlessly-dark.

Beside him, Shi-Shi raced to keep with her trainer, even as the Absol's fur bristled and her eyes flicked wildly about at the danger all around them. She stopped suddenly and, before he could even ask what was wrong, bolted through the bustling town square. Locke chased after her, following the path she carved towards the tree until they both reached the very front, where a dark but vaguely-familiar figure stood amidst the corruption.

But she had said-

Forget Yvetal. Forget the Darkest Day. Forget the end of the world.

He cupped his hands around his mouth and called into the growing crowd.

"Eris!"

- Is looking for Yvetal, who they know might die here
- His Absol leads him towards front of the crowd, where they see Chu-e Choi
- Decides the end of the world can wait until after he finds Eris Halla and calls out for her

Locke lowered their goggles to cover their eyes, offering a pair to Martin as the other man settled in, before giving Ji-Ji an encouraging tug upwards and taking off. The glow effect had spread from the Drampa's snout to the rest of his body by now, reflecting off the forest canopy below. If it made flying at night this easy, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if Ji-Ji stayed like this.

"Right! So I was at the museum in Lilycove a couple months back, and a whole lotta stuff happened! A weird lab, more of those white-haired guys, buncha Unown and Dream Mist, it was crazy!" He rattled off above the wind. "But the big thing that happened was that Uxie actually showed up! Or, like, a version of it I guess? But it gave me another one of those prophecies, something about energy and 'life coming in threes' and some kinda fourth thing that'll ruin it or something. I wrote it all down once I remembered, I can show ya in Petalburg!"

He turned back to give Martin an uneasy look. "I figure you're better at figurin' this kinda thing out than me, so…"

Their Riolu barked in their arms, eyes glowing as he followed some unseen aura ahead of them. "Rio-Rio you know I hate it when you do this! What is it?!"

Locke scanned the area with their own inferior vision, catching flashes of red and white too quick for their mind to process. Surely it was still too early in the evening for a Lycanroc pack to be stalking them, right? Right?

Something broke through his thoughts of being mauled and eaten in the woods to brush against his cheek, and Rio-Rio was unceremoniously dropped to the ground with a surprised yelp as Locke's hand flew to his face in a fit of déjà vu.

"L-Latias!" He squeaked, half-chastising, half-relieved. "You-C'mon out already!" He reached out blindly into the open air with his free hand, trying to feel for the tricksy dragon.

Uxie's words sent chills down Locke's spine as they sunk into the back of their. But-no-it wasn't just the prophecy making him cold. The temperature of the entire room had dropped considerably over the last few moments, his breath coalescing into little puffs in front of him.

He glanced around for the source of the cold snap, until the mysterious yellow Pokémon suddenly flew off in one direction. "H-Hey!" Locke shouted after it, chasing it through the fog. It wasn't long before he could begin to make out flashing silhouettes deep within the Dream Mist, until they finally broke through somewhere between Hideo Kino and wolfgang volkov where they and the majority of the group were facing off against some frozen behemoth.

"What's going on? Is that real?!"

The beast answered Locke with a terrifying roar, unleashing a prismatic Dragon Pulse against the party. Casso-Casso leapt from his trainer's arms with his tail drawn, attempting to Sketch the attack and meet it with the copy. No second pulse came, however, and before the Smeargle could even question why he was knocked to the ground by the full force of the attack.

Roto-Roto promptly retreated to the safety of their phone, while Locke recalled their fainted Pokémon while crying out to the others. "What do we do?!"

Their hand fell from their face to their chest, where their heart was starting to slow again. It immediately started racing again as he intercom on the table lit up and the nurse's voice rang through the room.

"Mister Jamison? We see your heart monitor has spiked; is everything alright?"

Locke fumbled for the button at the same moment Angelo jumped for the door. "Y-Yes!" They paused, trying to steady their voice. "Yes, everything's fine! Just had a little surprise is all."

"Alright, but if it happens again we'll have to end the visit early."

"Right, of course, thank you." Locke released the button, groaning into their hands until the presence, now revealed, returned to their side. They accepted the tray and placed it on the safety of the side table, echoing the name of the troublemaker in the room. "Latias…Right, this was the Pokémon with you before. I kept meaning to ask about her."

He tentatively reached a hand out to pat the…bird? Dragon? He'd never seen a Pokémon like her before.

"We're not going far, just out the other side to Petalburg. The tricky part is keeping wild Pokémon away from the cart."

He gave the goliath another onceover. "Though I'm pretty sure that won't be a problem anymore."

Doro-Doro stamped her hoof again, and Locke finally walked over and heaved himself up onto the Mudsdale's back. "Ready?"
