"Ah, not particularly," he answered, following the older man's gaze to Virizion. The legendary was surprisingly quite the socialite.

"…The ship I came to Hoenn on was a lot more crowded than this," they admitted, "but it's still…I think it'll be easier once we're on land and I've got something to do." Their body itched for a way to release the pent-up nerves. A little hard labor will clear their mind.

Absolutely not. Whatever few Sea people or whatever have come here shouldn't represent every single civilian from their home. There has to be a better way to stop it than sacrificing an entire alternate region.

"What do you think of Avatars, people who have been bestowed powers by legendary Pokemon? Do you believe it to be a blessing or a curse, or is it something humans should not meddle with?"

That much power comes with a lot of pressure, but I hope they at least get along with their legendary patrons.

"If you could be a Pokemon or have a Pokemon represent who you are, which Pokemon would it be and why?"

When I was a kid I would've said something cheesy like Dragonite, but I guess it's gotta be Delibird now, huh? Gotta stay on brand. Ah-wait, these are supposed to be anonymous right? Whoops.

"I have rivers without Basculin and roads without cars, I have deserts without heat and snowlands without cold, I have mountains without height and canyons without depth. What am I?"

The last time I answered a random thing like this I got sent someplace pretty messed up...But what are the odds of that happening twice, right?

The Castform flew around the small garden plot, curiously inspecting the budding Gracidea planted there. He the area careful once-over, before hovering a few feet above the flower and releasing a three small clouds from his body. He circled the clouds until they swirled and darkened, before finally dropping a torrential rain onto the soil below in a miniature Rain Dance.

Locke sighed as he stared up at his hat, balanced on the end of a long branch. Rio-Rio was making a valiant effort to reach the accessory, but the pup could barely clear the ground with his little jumps. This was job requiring more of a human height.

One hop-two hops-there! The branch swayed dangerously under Locke's added weight, showering the earth below with dislodged leaves. Now if he could just reach-

"Hm?" Something within the hollow of the tree caught the light, drawing the courier's attention away from his headgear. Curious, he inched his way towards the trunk and peered into the hole. He was greeted by multiple copies of his own reflection, and a Caterpie posing in the middle of it all.

An unusually pink Caterpie.

It spotted Locke in the same moment, shifting back into its Ditto form with a surprised squeak and shocking the postman out of its tree. While their rear recovered from the fall, the pink blob hopped from its nest to make a run for it, only to be knocked down and out by a Force Palm from their Riolu.

"I guess there was one here after all," Locke groaned as they stood. They dusted off their hat before returning it to their head and facing Latias. "Thanks. We'd have never found it in there on our own…But could you leave my hat out of it next time? I've only got the one."

"Eris!" He greeted the girl with a mix of relief and embarrassment. Locke only flashed his gluttonous Delibird partner an accusatory stare as an answer, but it was quickly wiped away as most of the Water Guns seemed to find their way to his face instead of the honey.

Enough of the water did reach the tree to wash out a decent portion of the honey, however, and the pair slipped to the ground easily as both courier and penguin were freed from their golden binds. "Th-Thank you," he coughed, as De-De chirped her appreciation beside him.

As they'd realized before though, they weren't the only ones caught in the trap, as the leaves parted to reveal not a predator but another victim. "Ah, I think they missed a spot," they said, pointing up at the still-struggling Togekiss, just a hair sigh of the water's reach. "I dunno if it'd appreciate getting wet quite as much though."

"Honestly, in Hoenn? Ya never know," Locke sighed, thankful they at least didn't have to shout up at the boy for conversation. There was none of the usual apprehension that came before some hidden danger was sprung upon them though, which the courier took as a good sign for the hike ahead.

With flick of the reigns Doro-Doro was set forward, and the party entered the woods proper. The path they took was long and winding, popular with trainers looking to expand their teams before challenging the nearby gym. Predictably, however, what few Pokémon did poke their heads out quickly disappeared at the sight of massive golem stomping through the trees.

Locke took an occasional glance back at the cart to count the eggs, trusting Arashi to keep an eye out for danger while he was distracted on both sides.

"Hey!" Came the immediate protest, which did little to stop his hat from floating out of reach and off into the woods. Rio-Rio sprung out of his trainer's arms to lead the chase with his aura sight, forcing Locke to keep up with two far-too-energetic Pokémon.

Thankfully, the hat and Riolu never left the range of their normal human vision, Latias apparently more interested in keeping the postman's attention than actual thievery. Of course that didn't make it any more convenient for them.

Locke, ever the peacemaker, called out to the invisible dragon. "Latias, come on! It's late!"

Locke half-collapsed against the ship's railing with a weary sigh. He knew going in it might be a problem, this many people on one boat, but it didn't lessen the staticky buzz of anxiety throughout his body.

Small waves of water crashed against the side of the ship as his Lapras approached, pressing her bright pink head into the palm of his hand. Her scales were cool to the touch, and a welcome distraction for his twitchy fingers. He was half-tempted to abandon ship and simply follow the rest of the way to the island from La-La's back.

Locke cast a glance back at the rest of the group, picking out the handful of people they did know. The other half of them wanted to join their friends, even if only to linger at the edge of their conversations and quietly enjoy their company. But doing so would require pushing through the crowd of mingling strangers and near-strangers between them-an idea that seemed too unpleasant and draining for a nice day like this.

They supposed they'd have to hope there was enough time for chatter when they reached Pinklan proper.

- Is not enjoying being on a crowded boat
- Decides he'll mingle once everyone's on the island instead and hangs out on one side of the ship with his Lapras

Waku-Waku collapsed at her trainer's feet, dark crystals blooming from the penguin's chest and extinguishing her Illumina light. The shadow of Yvetal swooped overhead in tandem with the Delibird's passing, as the god of death finally made its appearance.

There was truly nothing they could do. They were out of time.

And yet-

"This is wrong," he said, voice barely above a whisper. "It's all different." The Tree of Life was gone. The alien creature in its place was not the one he seen with Martín del Mar and Eris Halla. Yvetal was still, for the moment, alive.

The unusual charm pulled him again, pointing now at the circle closest to the new enemy. Hideo Kino was to the west. @senon was to the south. So…

Locke shrugged off their coat, bending down to carefully wrap it around their Pokémon and cradle her in his arms. "I gotta go," they announced to angelo vestri as they stood, wiping tears from their eyes. "Save Yvetal. Please."

There was a moment where they were certain Angelo would either stop them or insist on coming with. Neither response would've kept them there, but instead-

“I thought I asked you to stay away?”

Locke tilted their head, confused, until the actual recipient appeared beside them. Latias was a welcome surprise, apparently equally-determined to go where she was needed. Which was seemingly with them, according to the dragon.

They returned their friend's grin, with wide and watery one of their own. "See you later!" A promise made to an uncertain future as they clambered aboard Latias' back and flew off to the northernmost circle.

- Delibird dies
- Watches Yvetal appear, but realizes things are different from the vision
- Wraps up his Delibird's body and ask angelo vestri to save Yvetal while he goes to follow his charm
- Gets a ride from Latias to double-time it to the northernmost circle where Eris Halla is

This time it's his own name cutting through the darkness, carried by a somewhat familiar voice.

"Mr. Game?" A pang of guilt twisted in Locke's stomach as he called back blindly to the ranger, recalling the unfulfilled promise from their previous meeting. There was no time for regrets, though, as the lights suddenly flashed back on and revealed the true state of the battle.

Beneath the crowd now lay a complex diagram, familiar only to himself and select few others. Its sudden appearance and the weak tug of his charm signaled the Lake Trio's hidden presence, but were they here to aid them or simply watch their prophecy unfold?

His name reached his ears again, smaller this time, almost imperceptible over the chaos if he hadn't just been listening for it. He turned and locked eyes with Eris Halla at the same time his own voice repeated what he'd already been told months ago.

Locke clenched their jaw, sucking air between their teeth.

Like hell they'd accept that.

They watched Eris disappear with her Pokémon with relief. The further she was from the tree and Chu-e Choi, the safer she'd be. And was that Hideo Kino heading off to the left? A tactical retreat was also looking like the best option for themselves. They scooped Waku-Waku into their arms, picking at the Dark Seeds imbedded beneath her feathers as they hurried away from the Tree of Life and towards where they'd heard Sénon Game.

The redhead wasn't the only one searching for them though. "Angelo! Skyler!" Locke let the relief flood their voice as husband and wife descended to meet them.

They nodded at angelo vestri's assessment and turned back to Senon. "I'm sorry I didn't call, but this thing beneath us is connected to these!" They raised up their own Unusual Charm, sparking faintly where it was attached to his Rotom phone. "I think we need a person at each point! Do you mind back-tracking to the furthest one from the tree?"
