The orange glow from the setting sun couldn't have been a more poetic signal for the beginning of his workday. The guild was in its final hour or two of the day guests were still in the facility, but the guild was certainly winding down for the day. Miles and a small team of grunts had been in charge of slathering trees around the facility with honey. They'd been at it for an hour and a half or so and the surrounding woods once almost silent an hour ago was buzzing fiercely with activity. All that was left was to light a fuse, if the pokemon panicked it'd be a frenzy, as was the plan.

The facility like much of the town was built in a particularly hefty tree even for the city built in the treetops. Even under the pretenses Sharp still found Fortree stunning, especially beneath the setting sun. The guild was three floors. Miles remembered the layout from a conference he'd been invited to here a little over a year ago. Most of its guarded secrets waited on the third floor with the majority of the researchers and other personnel. The first and second floors were open to the public. The first served as a shop to buy the latest and greatest items for one's base. Furniture, electronics, and whatever else was generally shoved in bases. While the second served as a museum of sorts explaining how secret bases in the region developed alongside an assortment of other trivia concerning bases. The entirety of the treetop facility wasn't quite as expansive as say, the oceanic museum in Slateport, but it was definitely a curious place and one that held a bit of interest for his current organization. It's why there'd be a bit of a show today.


"This is Sharp, the net is set. All that's left is to do the job. All teams ready?" His voice comes through as clear as it can on the earpiece.

“Ah.”

There are eighty-six thousand and four hundred seconds in a day. Eighty-Six thousand and four hundred seconds that everyone on the planet had the luxury of spending. Of course not every second belonged to every individual (a problem in its own right), but Miles was blessed enough that even in his very shitty life of crime he got to choose how a proportion of that eighty-six thousand and four hundred seconds was spent. He figured Jynx Club over there also had a similar amount of time to work with, and while each individual had a god given right to spend their eighty-six thousand and four hundred seconds in whatever way they felt moved to Miles couldn’t help but feel in no small way that Magical girl: Mystic Meloetta was spending hers more than ‘sub-optimally’.

And so the man was left with a choice. A hypothetical red pill blue pill situation.

Red Pill: he turns around let’s this fucking fever dream go on her way with a prayer that he and the rest of the team don’t wake up stranded at the bottom of the fucking ocean come daybreak.

Blue Pill:He puts on his (metaphorical) sailor seifuku and rides this fucking wave to the end of the night if only to make sure this girl doesn’t chase her ‘vibes’ anywhere close to the engine room.

Was it truly that grave? Not in the slightest.

In all seriousness, he’d heard other grunts whispering about ghosts and whatever else have you in their spare time. Rumors that he had some hint of an obligation to deal with because of his status as a ‘Man of Science ™’.

He takes a deep breath knowing he’s about to make a bad decision wasting a large portion of his eighty-six thousand and four hundred seconds.

”Well surely you must have seen this ‘spirit’ or whatever else have you already if you know its stalking the halls, or ‘harshing’ the vibes, no?” he could of just walked away, but still he was here. What a fucking Capricorn.

"Of course, the supposed progenitor of all life on this planet, and in some mythos the one said to return at the end of days." He'd read many a tale concerning the god pokemon, Truthfully his curiosity lied in the ancient stone slabs that appeared with the creature in much of its lore, though that information was dependent on the civilization recounting the supposedly almighty beast. He glances over to Mare checking in on the dome pokemon's well-being, noticing how they moved maybe a couple of inches repositioning itself ever so slightly to maximize the time sunbathing. Of course the researcher would also turn his focus to the problem child noting that the pokemon had decided to take his own little nap after eating near the Wynaut. hopefully, the two were getting along.

There was more to say about the creator pokemon after all the theories concerning it were countless, but at the risk of sounding too conceited, he chooses to remain silent in favor of hearing the woman's story concerning the beast. His eyes retaining that shine one had when discussing their passions all the while.

An interesting prerequisite for joining Rocket, one that people rarely if ever thought about was that one had to be nocturnal. It makes complete sense, amazingly simple, but looked over entirely when your job description included extortion, murder, and blackmail among an assortment of other felonies. It was something that put Miles ahead in the game if only slightly. He was a man used to working late hours before turning to his cliched life of crime, and so when he was called to duty in Mossdeep for a 2 AM job the man held little complaint.

Apparently, he was tasked with supporting a higher-up while they cleared a potential base of any dangers to the unit. The base in question was an abandoned apartment complex 3 storeys high but unfinished mid-construction. As he reached the base of the complex he'd glance down at his tablet. " It was supposed to go two stories higher, but due to district regulations and complications with the ownership of the land, work was permanently halted. Or at least that's the printed story." A swipe of his finger would display new information that he'd summarize for the superior, "Supposedly during construction two workers quarreled over an affair leading to one being pushed off death on impact. It was the straw that broke the numel's back as they say. Rumor's spread and here we are...Sir."

He wonders why he in particular was chosen for this mission the analyst was by no means the strongest grunt and oscar clayton was one of the beasts I.E the strongest people in the organization period, he was entirely unneeded, still, he'd make himself useful as he was particularly curious about the man who bought what Silph could not.

"Very quick. That's is of the possibilities I'd like to test if I'm fully able to get this off the ground." Now the underboss had his attention.

"To go further, one of the possible problems I see is if the keystone is able to unlock two megastones simultaneously. "Returning to the metaphor of the skeleton key, that would be akin to running two cars at the same time, but with a sole key. head hold up a finger to demonstrate.

It's energy from the trainer combined with that of a pokemon that supposedly allows a pokemon to mega evolve. Would mega-evolving two pokemon at once consume more energy from the trainer? Could the human body withstand that pressure or even maintain enough focus to keep both evolutions going at once? I don't believe it could." He's enraptured now but gestures to a sketch on the table. A rough box-shaped device with a keystone inside of it. "A hypothetical prototype I drew up." He says it dismissively before going deeper. "This device, I envision, would be able to store the energy it takes for a pokemon to mega evolve with a keystone... I believe you can see where I'm leading with this, yes?" There's a shine in his eyes as he speaks of what could be endless possibilities.

When Chu-e delivers what Miles could only dream of getting his hands on confusion and shock lie plainly on his face. “I...” he takes a breat, I understand. Thank you for trusting me Chu-e” There’s an unusual respect where ire and annoyance had begun. A keystone was no easy thing to obtain, it was precious, this one even more so judging by the sentimentality of its owner. “Would you like to study this with me? Your Keystone could potentially change Rocket and moreover the world, you should be a part of it.”

"Now there's something I think we share in common. While history isn't my primary study much of my joy deals in it."

His eyes brighten at the mention of the topic. "He is certainly my most rambunctious partner, but he isn't my sole partner. I worked in fossil energy and resurrection for a long time so most of my team is prehistoric." He'd call a second pokeball forth releasing Mare, a kabuto that upon being released would simply collapse content to bathe in the sunlight "Both Mare and Obelos were spliced and brought back by my own hand. Though my time in those labs has long since passed." He'd note back to the Slowking watching Pearl for a moment or two more. "Independence is one of the many keys to growth, or at least I believe so." The man would reach into his basket allowing half of his sandwich to go to what was becoming an impatient Tyrunt. "Are there any tales you're particularly fond of that you've come across in your studies. I'd love to hear if you're willing to share." Perhaps there was something pleasant to be said about chance encounters after all

"A shame."

He doesn't miss a beat, not that it mattered his eyes focusing on the boss for a moment, before moving back to his work. It seemed like his research wherever he went wasn't needed, after all, Silph had said the same thing almost verbatim. Still what does surprise the researcher is that instead of continuing on the underboss would pull up a chair taking it from some other poor fellow to watch over the analyst for a moment or two longer.

As the superior pulled up his new chair the darker-skinned researcher would answer. "Sharp, Miles Sharp." He resists the urge to add a 'sir' to the end of the statement. "There are a couple of things, but first I would very much appreciate a keystone to study. While the power remains primarily in the individual megastones keystones have the unprecedented ability to link with any number of megastones. Something of a skeleton key if you will. If we're able to manipulate a keystone's ability to use megastones, well the potential is limitless." He'd put his hand to his chin for a moment. "Imagine a key that lets you drive any car. It's the same idea essentially."

His eyes watch the underboss' hand, scarcely believing what Chu-e may have been implying with his movements. There had to be a catch, always was in team rocket.

"I respectfully disagree, but I understand all too well."

He's not too casual though the woman has accepted his company she didn't seem all too pleased by it. Her response about money caused a temporary frown, after all, that was the issue, wasn't it? Regardless of what the world should have been individuals, like Gray and himself were trapped by the system in a way that they needed money. "And where is it that you find joy Ms. Gray?" He chooses to drop the previous line of conversation for the moment at the risk of sounding like a zealot. He chooses this because asking someone 'what they do?' was so drab and was a topic reserved for gloomier days. " Sidebar; Your Slowking is very well taken care of it's extremely impressive.

On his desk are diagrams of mega stones, and formulas scrawled in freehand. Various hypotheses old and new sprawled across his albeit small workstation. Though he doesn't mind it's the first thing in months that he can call his. If only he could get his hand on some actual samples he'd feel a measure of completeness. After all theories and hypotheses only got the man so far. He doesn't even notice the underboss making his way through the office space until he's on top of the researcher like a seviper poised to strike.

Even so, this was his space, and while a Miles under any other pretense would be more subservient in hopes of ending the interaction the Miles Chu-e would get here was focused and cold, not unlike the underboss himself.


"That's because I am." He doesn't bother turning finishing another scrawl or completing a thought before circling in his chair and recognizing who he was talking to not to say his verboseness changes all too much.

"I study energy and how to extract it from items pertaining to pokemon." Not that he would understand. "Mega stones are the primary focus of study, but there are a number of other items that do similar things. Mystical items surrounding various pokemon across the world that I believe are untapped powerplants." He was particularly curious about a set of mirrors unique to the unova region that were said to transform three of Unova's titans, but he was certain the boss care that deeply.

"Now what is it that I can help you with...sir." I.E what the fuck do you need?

His only recompense was that it was a beautiful day.

Miles arrived in Verdanturf to deliver news he himself had yet to fully swallow, news that he doubted he ever would. He'd been out of contact with all family since the passing, and so many had yet to even learn of the untimely demise of Ms. Leona Sharp. Though Leona and her sister weren't particularly close Gloria deserved to know of her sister's passing, and the only one that could pass the news other than a tiny obituary perpendicular to an ad about one of the numerous machoke moving services in the region was her only son, her pride and joy, Miles Sharp. The first half of his day had been sharing said news of his mother's death with his aunt, consoling her for as long as the woman allowed and then departing when he was no longer needed while his own grief buried itself deeper in the former devon employee's chest.

Still, it was a beautiful spring day and while his spirit had been laid low that was no reason to deprive his pokemon of such joys. Thus Obelos found himself out of his pokeball as the duo perused the particularly festive town looking for an exit all the while being handed a few random festival goods and treats along the way.

He hears various gossip as he moves through the festival talk of a three-legged race and other small spring events. None of it seemed of any consequence and so it went in one ear and out the other, that is until he spots an actual flesh and blood demon amidst the masses. Fernando Silph in the flesh chatting, smiling on a day so perfect. Sharp doesn't know what to do, his body has tensed before he can conceptualize it. Things to say things to do, everything is spinning and he's become nauseous. In seconds his stomach would empty itself if nothing was done. Adrenaline guides him into doing the only thing he can. The overly sweet coffee to his lips chugging the entirety of the teddiursa iced coffee™ in prayer that the drink settles his stomach until his brain can figure out his next move.

His interest is caught by a massive shelled dragon meandering the rocky area leading to the tunnel. Naturally, the rocket's first thought is to pass by unassumingly in an attempt to avoid the dragon types ire as most were known to be particularly territorial. While his time in Team Rocket had definitely done a fair bit to help out the researcher's skills in the field particularly regarding the nuance of stealth, luck wasn't quite on his side today, or perhaps it was more than luck in the form of a small rock dragon that felt the need to run out and pick a fight with the fire type no less than three times his size. And that's how the battle began an unfortunate circumstance, but a means to train nonetheless, even if this second roadblock seemed particularly threatening.

If nothing else the duo had type advantage and for all his energy the tyrunt was fast managing to avoid the lumbering defensive giant's attacks with relative ease. All this resulted in a bit of a stalemate the Tyrunt's jaws while powerful were little in comparison to the turtonator's detonative shell, a detonation that they had the pain of dealing with due to a mistimed Crunch resulting in an explosive shell trap. Thankfully, the rock dragon managed to perservere through the attack in time for the trainer to change their strategy entirely, Now the two found themselves focusing on various rock slides bombarding the fire dragon in stones until it was pinned and as such could no longer fight. For the first time in no less than five years, the grunt reached into his jacket pocket revealing a miniaturized red and white orb before expanding and throwing the ball out tapping the shelled dragon on its unconscious head in hopes of capturing the defensive titan.
