when GROUDON had first rampaged three years ago, it had taken close to thirty of the league's finest along with battle-ready civilians to contain it, and even then they had failed. they were lucky; the ERUPTION never struck hoenn; instead, the rift to LAND HOENN spared them calamity.

thirty against GROUDON.

five against PRIMAL GROUDON.

and yet, they stand; they resist; they fight for their region. for their friends.

'i hope you believe me when i say i want to be there for you.'

'i trusted you.'

'i'm going to save you!'

'you're weird, man.'

'i will never stop fighting for you.'

and for MATIAS SILPH.

from above, paxton concordas's OCTILLERY lands, deposited by ollie morales' MEGA PIDGEOT, its SUCTION CUPS sticking it in place while it fires a HYDRO PUMP at the LUMP only to discover the damning effects of DESOLATE LAND. the HYDRO PUMP dries long before it ever reaches its target, fading into a measly trickle of a stream. the STEEL WING that follows scratches black scales but fails to cut deep enough.

from below, lam logan accepts VIRIZION'S ask, their pact forged in the fires of the volcanic domain. with lam logan as its knight, VIRIZION beckons for them to follow before it turns and charges for PRIMAL GROUDON, SACRED SWORD paving the way.

slowly, they chip away, but they only prolong the inevitable.

from the muted pool of bubbling lava, eyes blink into existence one after the other, spreading aross the surface like pus-fueled wildfire. from above, it looks akin to a potent rash covered in volcanic, bulbous spots that are ready to pop at any given moment.

oddly, even under the scrutiny of eyes that look an awful lot like the volatile's, the party still feels as though they're being watched by something else entirely; an entity unknown and unseen, perhaps never to reveal itself.

the first of many POP! happens the moment RAYQUAZA strikes at the LUMP, finding purchase despite GROUDON'S best efforts. pain vocalizes in the ROAR that follows; it bellows even louder as MELOETTA'S PSYCHIC pierces deep into the FALSE SUN.

the volcano flickers, color returning for the briefest of moments before fading once again. it's clear that the attacks, no matter how potent, have not done enough to stop PRIMAL GROUDON, but perhaps they've done something far more important.

the eyes that litter the pool of lava all shut in unison; PRIMAL GROUDON slows to a halt; chaos stills; and for careful, fleeting moments, hope glimmers.

but then, the tumor of a LUMP bursts, and from it rises HOENN'S SAVIOR, his eyes as oppressive as the FALSE SUN above except far more empty, as though the soul that once resided behind them no longer exists. his mouth opens with a whisper but it is not MATIAS SILPH's voice the party hears; it is something ancient, otherworldly, and primal; powerful enough to reverberate into the depths of their minds.

"DIE."

PRECIPICE BLADES burst at the party only to EXPLODE.

a CATACLYSMIC ERUPTION nears.

they are almost out of time.

NARRATIVE PROMPTS

the FALSE SUN proves blinding at the peak of the volcano, limiting your vision.
the SOOT is now less dense, making it easier to breathe.
the DROUGHT along with the lava makes the heat almost unbearable.

you get the eerie sense that you're being WATCHED. by what exactly, you aren't too sure.
react/interact with MATIAS.
PRECIPICE BLADES seek to their impale you only to EXPLODE regardless. the entire party must respond and react to this threat or risk consequences.

and so they stand—hoenn's CHOSEN FIVE condemned to stop hoenn from ascending into a bright and pure future; as pure as the RED SHARD that currently pulses black through PRIMAL GROUDON.

against the wrath of the elements, they stand strong, PROTECTED by ollie morales's MEGA PIDGEOT as attacks pour in from the side. Melody Miro's MAX STRIKE and AIR STREAM converge on PRIMAL GROUDON, slamming into its sides to disrupt the pouring SOLAR BEAM, but the attacks are not strong enough to stop it.

kept safe by MIRROR COAT, paxton concordas leads, shouting orders through suffocating coughs as the air proves too heavy to contend with. but with lam logan's DEFOG, they will find it a little easier to breathe, soot, debris, and heat clearing enough to allow them a momentary reprieve.

and then comes the impact—RAYQUAZA'S EXTREME SPEED spirals along the curved lines of SOLAR BEAM and right into PRIMAL GROUDON. the land titan isn't able to move in time, too slow to do anything but tilt away, as though protecting its NAPE.

as PRIMAL GROUDON ROARS, the MAGICAL LEAF thrums with a whispered prayer—a sacred promise; and for moments, everything seems to still; soot hangs in the air; the pool of lava engorges but never pops; lam logan's trust and confidence fall over them like a shining coat of armor.

'i think i would feel the desire to save myself, probably.'

but here they stand in defiance, fighting for what is right; what is just.

the MAGICAL LEAF flies.

'but i couldn't do that, no.'

and the call is answered.

as an eruption of PRECIPICE BLADES flood towards lam logan like a tsunami, the MAGICAL LEAF fades into shades of green that blurs past with SACRED SWORD. the PRECIPICE BLADES are sliced, falling into pieces before they can find lam logan.

VIRIZION stands before them crowned in a whimsical, green trail of MAGICAL LEAVES that defy the FALSE SUN above. the sword of justice regards lam logan with a nod before beckoning with an ask.

once again, it has come to the volcano to save its knight, and though it'd succeeded against CHI-YU, VIRIZION knows it cannot do it alone this time. it needs another knight.

will lam logan accept?

on the other end of the mountain, PRECIPICE BLADES threaten to impale Eva Morales and Melody Miro, but again, they are unable to find purchase. the sharp spikes are frozen in place, held back by a powerful PSYCHIC as MEW arrives.

it floats around Eva Morales, greeting the head professor with soft coos as it returns to the same volcano it had appeared at years ago when GROUDON first rampaged.

as LIFE DEW washes over them to keep them safe from the immense heat, MEW claps its paws in assurance that they are not alone. it will be their support against the unstoppable.

NARRATIVE PROMPTS
here are some prompts to use either in this round or in the thread.

the FALSE SUN proves blinding at the peak of the volcano, limiting your vision.
the SOOT is now less dense, making it easier to breathe.
the DROUGHT along with the lava makes the heat almost unbearable.
