What now? Wasn’t that enough?

He turned back, jaw already set, and a severe look in his eyes that hadn’t been there in a very long time. Was this between him and his family, or Rocket? Where did that line exist, even?

Did it at all?

Gavin looked innocent—but that was the thing. Gavin could never be innocent, and Bo was too smart to trust him when it came down to this.

A BLIZZARD fell over rock, wearing down and crumbling off bits of stone—but small, like pebbles, and the sand that surrounded them.

The cool air, which had previously been comfortable despite the HAIL, was made into biting cold.

Abomasnow proved resilient, even against their rock-type attacks. No matter. Now that the STUN SPORE had settle into the ground and it was safer to close the distance, Golem did just that. Her fiercest move, DOUBLE EDGE, came in from both sides towards the rooted monster.

Meanwhile, Durant created a terrible screeching METAL SOUND by rubbing its steely pincers together.

Typically, Durant could evade paralysis with its steel typing. Unfortunately, the STUN SPORE which was scattered over the surface of the ground would prove dangerous.

Fortunately, the Abomasnow was pulled and weighted to the ground—perfect for Durant to come slashing straight up with an X-SCISSOR through the dirt.

Only then would it face the possible effects of STUN SPORE.

Golem didn’t need further instruction. She held back, and then energy glowed from the ground as stones rose. ROCK THROW launched in the direction of the opponents from across the field.

Like her pokemon. Maybe this would be easy—but he knew better than to doubt a stranger.

“Golem: STEALTH ROCK.”

They’d set the field with rocky obstacles, on the ground and levitating all around both the Frosmoth and Abomasnow.

“Durant: go under.”

Durant used DIG, cutting into the ground with steel pincers and disappearing. Golem stood, hardy and bracing itself for a possible double assault.

Bo managed a smile at his young opponent’s enthusiasm. He’d yet to battle any kids. This could be fun—although he wouldn’t be taking it easy on them.

Maybe he wouldn’t have to.

“Yeah? Guess we’ll see!” he called back, releasing his two giants to the field: a Golurk and Copperajah. They both eyed across the field, ready for battle.

“Want the first move?”

Maybe this was the last one. He was finding being around the people here increasingly difficult, and his familial situation had left him in a bit of a bitter mood.

He took a sip from a bottle of water and eyed and then poured a little down the back of his neck, looking over at his opponent.

“Hey. Name's Bo.”

He released Durant and Golem, both prepared for another good match. Perhaps Durant would redeem itself this time after a crushing lost to 's Riolu.

“Ya ready?”

Bo was tired. The tournament was drawing to a close soon, and he’d done pretty well—especially all things considered. Maybe he shouldn’t have still been in this thing. The guilt hung. But he needed this, and something told him that if was anywhere, he was here. There was way too much trouble to get into not to be.

He made his way to his next battle, eyes peeled all the way there, until they landed on his next opponent.

“Hi. How’s it goin’?”

Bo was glad the Inkay was gone. It wasn’t cute. Not at all. It proved this in the way that Gigalith fell, FAINTED once the squid had gone unconscious. Ugh.

A pokeball was held out to return. It was a good play.

“Guess so.” he responded, still smiling back.

The ICY WIND blew, but did little more damage to the Aurorus, who thrived in the cold. More rocks were picked up from the ground by ancient energy, and hurled in a ROCK THROW towards the blue fox.

It seemed the Spiritomb would not topple easily. There was another pained, and aggravated roar as the dinosaur was hit with SHADOW BALL—but she’d managed to evade it partially with a swing to the side. The assault wasn’t enough. She was resilient.

The cold in the air picked up as a BLIZZARD further chilled around ghost.

The ghost’s cry was enough to send chills on the back on Bo’s neck a bit. He wasn’t scared of ghosts, but they were definitely uncomfortable to be around.

The DARK PULSE came in waves towards the dinosaur, hitting, and causing a cry of its own. However, it shook it off.

Seeing that this move seemed to work well, and knowing they had little else effective enough in their arsenal, Bo commanded, “Again.”

And again, FREEZE DRY was breathed from the fossil-type towards her opponent.

Bo had been finishing out the battles he’d promised and signed up for. had gone missing, and he took the quick excursions back to the beach as opportunities to scour for him, and toss a few suspicious looks occasionally. He was becoming increasingly worried.

For this reason, his focus was not all there this time. But, perhaps he would make up for it with the team he’d brought.

“How’s it goin’?”

Despite Bo’s desperate attempts to get the CONFUSED Aurorus’s attention and prevent it from harming her Gigalith partner, she began to glow with the beginnings of another HYPER BEAM. However, the opponent took care of it, cutting it short before launch with SUPERPOWER, overwhelming all, inflicting damage and sending rocks flying and—oh fuck, it woke Gigalith up!

Bo smirked. “Nah, man! Of course not.”

While they were both badly damaged—Gigalith, especially. However, somehow, they pulled through. Gigalith and Aurorus both decided to combine their energies on one assault at the formidable squid causing so much trouble. FREEZE DRY and POWER GEM struck out in a cold, sharp assault.

Bo always had been good—at least in the Rocket days. He’d been really good. Perhaps, even on his way to beast, like Emma. He’d been a ruthless enforcer, before he’d rerouted and changed his mind, shocking everyone. At the time, it had seemed so sudden.

“You too.”

He walked towards her once his Aurorus had been returned, as though figuring he might join her on a walk.

“You too.” He repeated with a nod.

And, maybe, they’d continue down the beach and catch up—or maybe not. Either way, his evening would be better for having run into yet another old, friendly face—despite how gray it all was.

Bo laughed at the results and waved it off, promptly returning the Dracozolt as it went in for another unnecessary attack.

“Don’t worry! I understand.” Munchlax and all, as he’d explained. “It was fun! That’s what this is about, right?” No, it wasn’t, but he smiled back like it was anyways. He had enjoyed this, genuinely.

“Thanks for the battle Dr.! Enjoy the rest of the tournament.”

He turned to leave.

Bo watched, wide-eyed at the unfolding battle—particularly the severe crushing of Zac’s Tyranitar. Ouch.

Back to the big-ass Meowth centerstage in the center of a roaring SANDSTORM. Shit. Gigalith decided to go after it to, firing a POWER GEM at it as it trampled over the Tyranitar.

Pissed, the giant cat looked back with its ferocious face snarling, before its  G-MAX GOLD RUSH  sent the rock monster flying across the arena, eventually stilling and collecting a drift of sand before the storm died down. It had FAINTED.

“Damn.”

All around them were gold coins. “Woah.”

Bo picked one up, assessing as he returned his Gigalith.
