Summer pondered his inquiry. There were several ways she could answer his question, and she didn't know what was the best way to approach him. Cain was a dickhead and a bully.[break][break]

But hadn't she caught a glimpse of him there too? On route 120, when TING-LU stood before them and shook the earth with its mighty bell, and ZACIAN appeared with ZAMAZENTA at the end?[break][break]

How much did he know or remember?[break][break]

"Not everything is some 'rich bitch code,' regardless of what your pea-sized brain can comprehend," Summer said shortly, turning around as he threw his shirts to the side.[break][break]

Was he really getting in the pool with normal pants on?[break][break]

"There's actual swim clothes in the changing room. You might as well grab some if you're going to be a bloodsucking tick for the rest of my trip," she said with an eyeroll, pointing toward the door.[break][break]

Summer didn't address his question until she slipped into the pool, a few feet away from him. She reached for her glass, sipping her drink and leaning against the edge.[break][break]

Summer listened to him, her gaze back at her hands. She couldn’t look at him or meet his gaze when he said that to her. After twenty years in Galar, the process they had made there, it could be shattered the the blink of an eye because of their differing paths.[break][break]

Her leg began to bounce, anxiety and nerves building.[break][break]

”How? How could you do something like that for me?” she begged, finally meeting his gaze again.[break][break]

”After everything that I’ve done! How does someone like me deserve a life like that? Do you know what my hands have done, Gunner?” Summer’s voice cracked, and while her hands, which were held out in front of her, showed nothing on them, she could see them tainted.[break][break]

Bloodied. Poisoned. Dirty. Filthy.[break][break]

”How, Gunner?” she whispered, broken.

Summer felt dread and fear burn inside of her. If he reported her to the HBIC, it would cause a whole slew of problems for not just her, but for those she employed that were not members of team Rocket. It would turn her company upside down.[break][break]

She had the money to survive without it. But she had to get her legal team together and prepared if he decided to.[break][break]

"I would understand if you did," she said softly.[break][break]

Summer paused. She hesitated to tell him some of the truths of Rocket. But... she had to explain to Gunner why she couldn't leave.[break][break]

"I thought about it. I wanted a peaceful life for us. But, Rocket is under orders to hunt and destroy anyone who leaves. And I know too much. I don't think that future is possible for me, Gunner."

In that moment, Summer hated herself. She hated how her body reacted and betrayed her like this. It was as if she had no control and became frozen in ice. And all she could do was watch him.[break][break]

Her eyes were stuck on his infuriating gaze, as he moved in ever more closer. She could feel the pressure of her wrist against the wall grow more firm as he hummed.[break][break]

If she had the ability to control herself, she'd kick him in the balls.[break][break]

Summer wanted to spit in his face. Yet her teeth were ground together, her jaw locked into place as his eyes searched hers. What the fuck was he doing? What was she doing? Why was she letting him do this?[break][break]

Then, Cain released her wrist, her arm dropping to her side like a deadweight. Her head raised a bit as his finger flicked her chin, though she forced it back into a neutral position as she glared at him. She would not look up to him like he was an icon.[break][break]

"I don't know what you're talking about," she spat, the words finally coming back to her as she shoved an elbow into his stomach.[break][break]

Shoving past him, Summer walked to her chair, bending over and grabbing her clip. She pulled her hair up, keeping her back towards him as she scowled ahead at the ocean.[break][break]

"Pull that stunt again, and you're out."

It annoyed her to no end that he didn't believe her. Of course Summer hadn't held up to her claim that she'd murder him. But, did she truly want to murder Cain?[break][break]

While he was insufferable, there was a part of her that said she might regret it if she did. Of course, she would be the last person to admit it to him.[break][break]

"I haven't found my perfect opportunity to kill you. Your days are numbered, Cain Toman." It was an empty threat, and she pleaded to ARCEUS that he wouldn't catch on.[break][break]

However, before she had a chance to retaliate, the hand that had sent a jab to his chest was yanked upward. A shocked and confused look crossed Summer's face, and there was a sudden force against her back. He pushed her back almost hard enough to knock the air out of her.[break][break]

Luckily, she was able to recover quick enough, because the mere inches away that he was from her did her in again. Summer's eyes were wide, and she was frozen into place by his hand and his words alike as he whispered to her.[break][break]

There were chills running down her spine, despite the heat. Did she shiver? She couldn't tell. But for once, Cain had rendered Summer Corleone speechless, her mouth run dry as her brain struggled to process what he said.[break][break]

What did he say again? Was her heart pounding?

Summer grunted, sipping her drink. He gave her some validation. And, of course, she would lie and play the side of the League. Why was she there? She had skill and would be an asset to their side. But, they didn't need to know the details.[break][break]

Neither did Callan. And as much as she loved him, she'd lie to him about that much, at least.[break][break]

Some of the tension that was held taught in her shoulders loosened visibly as he spoke. Her glass was empty, but it was soon replaced with another one. She'd soon be too wasted to think about what happened.[break][break]

"You think so?" Summer sought the validation, and Callan offered it to her. With another sip, she sighed, closing her eyes.[break][break]

"Thank you, Callan. I needed that. I've felt very... alone. I'm glad you're with me." She allowed herself to be vulnerable, if for a moment, resting her head against his shoulder before sitting back again.[break][break]

"Enough of the sad shit. Okay? I don't want to spend my time with you thinking about what could have been or what was. This is to tomorrow." Summer raised her glass.

Gunner really was sweet. Summer had missed this, their tender moments they had shared before their fight with the SKELEDIRGE. Even in Galar, these moments felt different. Perhaps they were held back because of the war.[break][break]

It reminded her of why she had fallen in love with him.[break][break]

They came across a park bench, where Summer decided to sit for a few moments. She rested her hand at her side, patting the seat for him to join her.[break][break]

"We both lied to each other," she murmured, clasping her hands together as she watched a BUTTERFREE fly by. It's wings were brightly colored, and the way it flew reminded her of a dance.[break][break]

Freedom.[break][break]

"I'm sorry I never told you. I thought about it a lot, if I should tell you. And I made a decision that I was at some point. But, I was so afraid after we fought. I didn't want to ruin everything when it was already so tense."[break][break]

Summer bit her lip, sucking in a breath before she looked over at Gunner.[break][break]

"What are you going to do with me, since you know the truth?" she asked hesitantly.

Summer couldn't help the haughty smirk that crawled onto her lips as he was cut off by her sudden yank. It gave her a quick rush of power, even if he recovered quickly and regarded her with an attempt to smother the flames that were burning inside her.[break][break]

That smirk unraveled from her lips as he flicked her hand away. Instead, she placed her hands on her hips, her chest puffed out as she stood straight to match his aura. She knew that she was no match for his height.[break][break]

She sure as hell could battle him in ego and words.[break][break]

"If you wreck my boat, I will make sure to take you to court and make you pay every cent of the damages. You mark my words," she hissed at him.[break][break]

Summer took a step forward, invading his space as she glared up at him. At this point, the glasses that had been shielding her eyes from the sun were pushed on top of her head, allowing him to see her seething glare.[break][break]

"I could just throw you straight into the ocean with not a care in the world. I can make sure that your Pokemon have no way to save you."[break][break]

She wrinkled her nose. "I'd rather swim with a bunch of rotting KINGLER than let you have an easy time after trying to invade my space," she whispered, jabbing her finger into his chest.

It was as though Summer's initial words had gone in one ear and right out the other. They didn't even have time to sit in his stupid brain to compute and process. He was trespassing on her yacht![break][break]

Where the hell was the coast guard?[break][break]

"What the fuck do you think you're doing!" she all but screeched, stomping after him as he brushed past her. The movement was enough of a bump to push her to the side.[break][break]

Summer caught up in a few strides, grabbing the back of his shirt and yanking it with all the force she had.[break][break]

"You can't come waltzing onto my boat to try to enjoy yourself without asking me! After trying to steal from me, might I add!"[break][break]

Steam would be rising from her if it was able to. She was pissed.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Hela was all too excited to see that her ZORUA friend was back.

Summer had to hold back a wince as she heard the grunt scream in pain, watching the AERODACYL fly around with the man in his claws like a dangling mouse. He was nothing more than prey. A lamb being led to the slaughter.[break][break]

Cillian didn't need anymore from him. The gun was loaded and heavy. And it was given to her.[break][break]

There was an obvious confusion in her gaze as she looked at it, then to Cillian. She could hear the whimpering begs of the grunt in front of her, pleading for his life. He began to bargain, offering to do anything.[break][break]

Cillian Quinn was the one in control though.[break][break]

Summer held the gun out, aimed at her target. She'd done this many times before. She knew where to shoot, where to get the best shot for the cleanest and quickest kill.[break][break]

So why was her hand shaking? Why couldn't she pull the trigger?

Summer laughed, though it held no humor. It was dry, holding back emotion as she tried to restrain her feelings. It was an inappropriate response, but how else was she supposed to grieve in a place like this?[break][break]

"You don't have to pay... but I would appreciate your support," she admitted, finally letting go of his hands.[break][break]

"Just buy me coffee and something greasy after, okay?"[break][break]

Pushing the worst aside, Summer decided to face their next topic head on. It was more business-forward, and she was more equipped to handle it than the prior one.[break][break]

"I do. I remember seeing you rip off your mask. You had a weird distortion device for your voice — it was still there when we came to back in Hoenn," she recalled, her voice lowered in case there were any passerbys.[break][break]

Her eyes closed, breathing in before nodding. "Yes. I do. My family has been allied with them for many years, and I was raised as one," she answered, offering a genuine answer rather than forgiveness.[break][break]

"And you're a spy for the HBIC. You were tasked to see if I was a member of Rocket, right?"

Summer's gaze flicked toward him as he elaborated. And, after a brief pause, she nodded slowly. "Exactly," she said, her fingers reaching up to idly adjust the ring that hung on the chain around her neck.[break][break]

It was still a mystery. It was important, but she couldn't place why it was so important. And the more she thought about it, the more the memories seemed to fade.[break][break]

"Callan, you may think I'm crazy, but... did you have a dream about Galar?" she asked, almost scared to hear his answer.[break][break]

There was a small smile on her lips as he squeezed her shoulder, though it was quick to fade as he made an astute observation. Summer didn't realize it was really that obvious how drastically she'd changed.[break][break]

"Perhaps I have. I lot of things have happened. I don't... I don't regret them. But I feel like I'm slowly being eaten away by twenty years I've lost that's also affected my future here in Hoenn," Summer said, playing with the rim of the martini glass.[break][break]

There was a long pause. "Gunner and I broke up. And we decided that for our futures, we shouldn't keep the baby..." And it stung like alcohol poured over a fresh wound as she admitted it openly to Callan.

Summer let out a small laugh, humming as she listened to his native tongue grace his lips. Hell, he could insult her, and she'd melt like butter at the sound of his voice and the fierce rolling of his "r"s.[break][break]

His body was a furnace, warming her to the core as she allowed him to hold her close. Her back pressed against his chest, skin to skin, feeling his breaths and matching them with her own.[break][break]

"Mmm... lavender and honey. I find it soothing. Don't you agree?"[break][break]

She only shifted a small amount, enough so she could look over her shoulder to see his face. Her own was content, a post-sex aura of comfort and pleasure emanating from her.

The figure that approached was strikingly familiar. And as he lurked closer, Summer let out a tsk, annoyance clear on her face. Though, her attention was brought upward as his voice broke the silence and stopped her from reacting then and there.[break][break]

"I have the right to blow you into smithereens right now for trespassing on private property," she hissed as she placed her hands on her hips and cocked one out.[break][break]

The hair. The facial structure. The scar. His annoying voice. Cain Toman.[break][break]

She gritted her teeth before looking at her EMBOAR, deciding that if he was recalling his Pokemon, then she supposed she would too. After all, she wasn't trying to pay for a new yacht today.[break][break]

"Surtur, vente. Vakt," she ordered, watching as her blue-flamed pig snorted and slowly stomped away from them.[break][break]

Peering through her sunglasses, Summer scowled at him. "What do you fucking want, Cain? Haven't you caused me enough headaches already? I'm trying to fucking relax for once!"
