"No lifeguard on duty!" the bartender reminded the two of them as Summer flailed and made purchase on Cain's body. His attention was on the glasses that he was polishing, trying to ignore the two.[break][break]

Summer didn't hear him, since she had been partially submerged and was busy trying not to drown in the process. Luckily, she didn't die that day — unluckily for Cain, she'd live another day to antagonize him further.[break][break]

Though, she really began to regret coming to the pool when she made eye contact with him. He had that shit eating grin that reeked with arrogance and egotism. He had an advantage over her, and that was height. Well, and her inability to properly swim. And she couldn't move fast enough.[break][break]

"Cain—"[break][break]

She barely had time to take a breath as he took his arm around her and dunked them both back into the water. Summer kicked at him furiously, trying to swim out of his grip and get back to the edge of the pool.[break][break]

When she resurfaced, she managed to get to a part where she was able to stand and glare daggers at him. "You fucking dickhead! I swear, I will murder you—"[break][break]

"Alright, that's it. Outta the pool! Go fuck and makeup somewhere else. I'm sick of your shit. Both of you are banned for the rest of the day," the bartender shouted, pointing to the gate.[break][break]

Summer scowled, glowering at at Cain as she pulled herself out of the water. She dried the dripping water off of her, recalling Hela from the pool. "Don't think we're done, Toman," she spat, chugging the rest of her drink before slamming the glass onto the bar and exiting the pool area.

Summer heard the barking warning from the bartender again, who was probably ready to go home at that point. He sounded tired, exhausted, from handling these two specifically. She turned and gave him a sneering look, rolling her eyes as she looked back toward Cain.[break][break]

Her kicking slowed to a halt as he approached her, her brows furrowing as she regarded him with suspicion. "What do you think you're doing?"[break][break]

Suddenly, there was a cool sensation on her arm as he grabbed her arm. Summer lets out a noise of protest, her hat and glasses falling off of her head as he yanked her over his shoulder. She was helpless in his grip — after all, he was much stronger than her, no matter how hard she fought.[break][break]

"Cain! Let go of me!" she hissed.[break][break]

And, well... he did let go. Just not how she wanted him to. Summer was tossed head first into the six foot end of the pool, resurfacing in a few moments with doggy-paddle thrashing. She coughed to expel water that had gone down the wrong pipe, shaking her head as she blindly reached for something to hold onto.[break][break]

Which, so happened, to be Cain.[break][break]

"What the fuck, Cain!" Summer said, swiping water out of her face. She didn't realize it was him she was holding onto until she managed to clear water from her eyes and pushed dripping blue strands from her face.[break][break]

"..." She just stared at him blankly, all while her ZOROARK swam excitedly around his ZORUA.

While the two trainers were busy arguing over literally nothing, Hela noticed Cain Toman's bag rustle. The ZORUA poked her head from the bag, causing the evolved form to tilt her head and sniff at the air. She followed in suit as she decided to dip in the pool.[break][break]

It wasn't as if her trainer noticed. Summer was too caught up with arguing with the giant tree in front of her.[break][break]

"What was that? I couldn't hear you over the sound of you falling for me," Summer said with a wry smirk, crouching at the edge of the pool. It would only be better if she had her drink in her hand right now...[break][break]

She sat at the edge, kicking her feet in the water and splashing him a little bit. "What? I'm just having a bit of fun in the sun. That's what we're supposed to do at the pool," she answered innocently, giving an almost pouting look at him.[break][break]

Hela bobbed on the waves, catching up to the smaller Pokemon with an excited noise. "Hela! You aren't supposed to be playing with the enemy," Summer scolded, momentarily distracted from Cain as she tried to get her ZOROARK'S attention.

What Summer Atreides had learned from her several encounters with Cain Toman after their first meeting was the more she reacted to his insults, the more pleasure he'd get. It inflated his already massive ego, and ARCEUS knew she didn't want to handle that more than she had to.[break][break]

She'd come to the pool to relax and escape from trouble, not wrestle with it. Though, it seemed that she'd have to at least play with the fire a bit before she left.[break][break]

"You know, I'd like to help you out, Cain. Which way did you come in? Need to find the way back out?" she said, pointing toward the gate.[break][break]

"There it is. If I throw you a stick, will you leave?" Summer clapped her hands together, pretending he was a dog before snickering to herself and sipping from her drink.[break][break]

It was no secret in team Rocket that Cain and Summer didn't get along. After a paired mission where the two bickered and argued endlessly, it was common knowledge that putting them on a team would end in hell or worse — a failed or compromised mission.[break][break]

Summer rose from the chair, setting her drink down on the table beside her. She took several waltzing strides over to him, only stopping short when she was in front of him. Her arms crossed over her chest as she regarded him with a cold gaze, peering over her sunglasses.[break][break]

"Choose a different pool, Toman. This one's taken."[break][break]

Behind her, her HISUIAN ZOROARK prowled closely behind, regarding Cain with an apathetic gaze. The bartender at the swim-up bar called out to them. "No fighting in the pool area!"[break][break]

Rolling her eyes, Summer reached out, her palms pushing flat against Cain's chest to push him into the pool instead, all whilst sticking her tongue out childishly.

She turned in the seat when she heard him echo her, saying her name. It was a familiar comfort, hearing her name on his tongue. Taking him in, Summer felt a multitude of emotions rise in her chest all at once.[break][break]

Primarily, she felt joy.[break][break]

"I knew it was you," she whispered.[break][break]

Summer moved to get off the barstool and walked to him, but Callan exited his conversation with who she assumed was someone related to his career in music. She relaxed back into the seat as he approached and sat beside her, turning back to her drink in front of her.[break][break]

"Rough day?" His question made her laugh lightly, raising the martini glass to her lips as she sipped. Her shoulders rose and fell as she shrugged.[break][break]

"Not necessarily. I suppose there's just been a chain of events that's been keeping me up at night. Things that just... don't make sense," Summer answered vaguely, almost hesitant to bring up anything related to Galar with him.[break][break]

Several times, she recounted seeing him on the battlefield on route 120. And she saw a fuzzy image of the Callan Young aged twenty years. But how much did he remember? Was it all a dream to him?[break][break]

"I'm glad to see you, Callan. I've missed you," Summer admitted softly, her gaze traveling from her glass back to him. It was tender and gentle. "It feels like I haven't seen you in years."

Resuming normal life proved difficult for Summer Atreides. There were multiple things clouding her mind. Her discussion with Gunner Graves and her decision for their future, the strange twenty year dream she had, a ring on a chain around her neck...[break][break]

She held no resentment or bad feelings to her former lover, nor did she regret her decision. His fear that she'd miscarry again and suffer emotionally, this time not in a dream, only validated her decision to go ahead with termination. And she appreciated his support.[break][break]

The sting was still there, no matter how long it had been.[break][break]

The ring was a conundrum Summer wished she could figure out. She knew it was important, and that she must have gotten it from someone near to her in Galar. But who was it? What did it symbolize?[break][break]

It was all driving her insane. So, Summer did what she did best: she went to a quiet place and ordered a drink.[break][break]

Her drink of choice was a dry martini, biting off the olives that soaked in the alcohol before sipping it. She winced as she swallowed it, relishing the burn. She sat at an open-air bar, staring ahead at nothing and no one.[break][break]

Until she heard footsteps of her companion coming to meet her. "Callan?"

The Hoenn heat was intense. At first, when Summer Atreides had woken from that dream about Galar, she had appreciated the sunlight and the warmth. Galar had been cold and gray in comparison, from what blurry memories she could recall. But each day she stepped outside, part of her wished she could go back.[break][break]

Not entirely. There were aspects of Circhester she missed. And she was grateful that she had validation of these memories from Gunner Graves. But imminent war was something she was happy to be away from.[break][break]

As work didn't distract her enough, Summer took a day off from work to go to the pool in Sootopolis. It was only open for certain individuals and high-class, with a swim up bar.[break][break]

She currently lounged on one of the chairs that was partially submerged in the water, managing to stay cool while catching some of the sun's rays at the same time. In her right hand, she held an alcoholic beverage, a frozen sex on the beach. Her sunglasses covered her eyes, which were closed until she heard the door opening to let someone in.[break][break]

Summer peaked over her glasses, spotting a male figure entering the area. "Oh, hello, hot stuff—" she began to say to herself.[break][break]

Until she realized who it was. "Shit. Not you. Why the hell are you here?" she grumbled when Cain Toman came fully into view.

Gunner's words didn't hurt or sting. Summer had lived in a world for twenty years feeling the same way. Though many parts of it were hazy, she could feel that she fell in love with someone else, and in that time, she was perhaps the happiest she'd felt even when she was living in Hoenn.[break][break]

The smallest of smiles cracked on her features as she noticed his softened gaze, this time reaching out to take his hands into hers. She squeezed his much larger ones with her own, which shook slightly from emotions she tried to push away.[break][break]

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice almost too quiet to hear as her eyes welled with tears. Summer wasn't upset with Gunner.[break][break]

But she was afraid that what he mentioned was probably right.[break][break]

Her gaze dropped down for a moment, composing herself before she released his hands. "I'm afraid you may be right. Maybe it was a warning of what is to come. I'm still early enough that I can—"[break][break]

Summer didn't finish her sentence though. Gunner understood what she meant, and she didn't want to break down in the middle of the park. So instead, she swallowed the rest of the sentence, nodding instead. "I don't want it to suffer either."[break][break]

With her mind made up, she decided to slowly trek forth again. Her gaze trailed the bricks on the path extending in front of them.[break][break]

"But I have another pressing matter I think we need to talk about. Work."

Summer nodded, taking a couple of strides forward to reach his side before slowing to the comfortable pace that was set. She held her hands behind her back as she looked around the park, tangling her fingers together idly. Her brain was churning, so much so that she almost didn't catch he was beginning to speak again.[break][break]

She didn't meet his gaze at first, focused on a man and a woman, sitting side by side. They were laughing, probably talking about their future or reacting to a cheesy joke. Her hand instinctively rose to the ring on her necklace, tracing over the pattern before she looked away.[break][break]

"I remember a few things. Like I was treated as a queen. There was something important to me. And..." she trailed off.[break][break]

"Yes. I remember what happened to us." Though it echoed in her mind like a nightmare, she remembered walking away from him in the alley after his accusations, telling him not to touch her in the hospital room as she tried to force him out after the poison had consumed their child.[break][break]

"It's still here, Gunner. Whatever happened in Galar, it didn't affect the baby in the real world. So... what do you want us to do?"[break][break]

Summer stopped walking, turning to face him. "We discussed it before. But it was after the poison made me sick. We have a chance now to decide our future before its taken from us... and I don't want to play the villain in your story." She reached out, to touch his arm, though she paused. She held back and withdrew her hand.[break][break]

Because Summer wasn't his lover anymore. And she knew that quite clearly from the memories in her mind.

Summer did not sleep well that night. Something about being in her bed, in her penthouse, seemed odd. The staff that shuffled about welcomed her back like they did on a daily basis, as though she hadn't been gone for a couple of decades. One of them, Marianne, had even taken to her in concern.[break][break]

"Miss Corleone? Are you feeling alright?" she had asked.[break][break]

Summer had been quick to dismiss her fretting, as well as their attempts to get her to eat a meal on the basis of she wasn't hungry. Nausea still churned in her stomach, only subsiding as she showered. She stared at herself in the mirror that night.[break][break]

How did it all happen? She wasn't going crazy right?[break][break]

The morning came, and she answered Gunner Graves's call. The time was set, and she'd go to meet him at Slateport Park.[break][break]

Wearing a casual sundress, Summer looked rather out of her element from her typical fashionable outfits and accessories. The only thing that she wore with it with the ring around her neck she noticed when she opened her eyes and found herself back in Hoenn. Her golden gaze rested on Gunner, tired and filled with a hidden confusion.[break][break]

The last time she'd seen his face, he was graying, wrinkled, and aging.[break][break]

"Of course. It's a nice day..." Summer mentioned, her eyes trailing around the area. Unlike Galar, it was sunny and warm. Hoenn seemed so full of life instead of the dullness that was haunting their former home. Or dream?
