A shadow soon swooped overhead, and Yvette glanced up in time to see the wide-winged Fearow that had decided to block out her sun. She clicked her tongue in annoyance, then pressed her thumb and index finger to her mouth and whistled.

In a flash her Salamence appeared from the tree line, clamping down on the bird’s wing with a vicious Thunder Fang. The Fearow gave an ugly screech as electricity coursed up and down its body, until both it and George crashed to the ground a little ways off. She soaked in both her renewed sunlight and easy victory for a few beats, before jogging up to join her Pokémon and their catch.

The Fearow wasn’t all George seemed to catch though. ”Well, well, well. Didn’t expect to spot Mr. Fortune-500 out in the wild,” Yvette greeted Silph as she caught up. The Fearow twitched where it lay limp in George’s grasp. Good, she’d been a little worried he’d overdone it. She tossed the empty Pokéball at it, for good measure.

”We didn’t interrupt anything, did we?” She eyed the unusual Pokémon at his side as she asked.

”Well hello there cutie-pie,” Yvette cooed.

She knew she should be more cautious, especially with all the Lopunny hopping around, but the Buneary that had carefully approached her camera setup was too adorable to ignore. It seemed for all her preference for large, intimidating Pokémon, she wasn’t any more immune to fluffy little bunnies than anyone else.

She dug a bit of celery out of her lunch pack and held it out to the unusually-pink rabbit, coaxing it closer with a little pspspsps.

”You can say that again,” she agreed between chattering teeth, resurfacing beside Andrea on her Samurott. At least her assistant agreed with her preference for warmer temperatures. How she survived in Sinnoh as long as she did…

Yvette warmed herself against Meatloaf’s flame as she summoned her Charmeleon for a more consistent source of light and heat. ”Whatever we spot first!” she answered with her usual flippancy. ”Or, more accurately, we’re observing everything within this area. I want to see how the recent environmental changes might’ve affected the Pokémon that live down here, if at all.”

Yvette twisted an empty Pokéball in her off-hand as she chewed on her sandwich in the other. The weather was finally starting to warm up a bit, promising the tropical climate she’d come here for instead of the unusual cold snap she’d found instead.

Good. It meant she could spend her lunch breaks outside without freezing her tits off.

She tossed the last bite of her meal into her purse, unperturbed by the wild gnashing of phantom teeth within while she checked the time on her phone. About twenty more minutes before she had to get back to class. Plenty of time for a little detour…

It's almost been a full year since I've joined and it's been so much fun! I've been forum-hopping since middle school and I can honestly say I've never found a community like Hoenn. Everyone is so welcoming to new players, and between both staff and player events it always feels like there's something going on. It blows me away that it's just shiv and SPIRAL putting in all the mod work, while still keeping up with their own characters' plots! Here's to another year!

This newest distortion had arrived to Mossdeep during her weekend with @idris, but surely her husband would understand if she stole away for half an hour or so to take just a little peek.

Yvette knew the drill now; take a Pokémon in and see what happens. However, this was the first of the distortions to appear within a populated area, which meant the observatory was already teeming with activity by the time she arrived. She kept towards the edge of the dome, taking notes on the various species that appeared and the changes other trainers’ Pokémon underwent.

Her own Dewott followed diligently behind her, acting as the professor’s bodyguard as the rift unleashed wave after wave of enemies in and around the building. Curiously, she noted, the summoned Pokémon never left the distortion unless they were captured. Perhaps something about Pokéballs stabilized their presence in this dimension?

There was another crack of lightning, releasing a massive Steelix just a few feet ahead of her. Oda didn’t hesitate to meet it, crashing into his opponent head-on with an Aqua Jet. The unnaturally giant, red-eyed Pokémon held its ground though, the two locked in a stalemate until her Dewott began to glow with the familiar energy of evolution.

The Pokémon that appeared his place, however, was somewhat less familiar. It was a Samurott, no doubt, but thinner and far more vicious-looking. With a mighty shove Oda’s Aqua Jet at last broke through, sending his opponent careening backwards and disappearing in another flash of light.

Another one for the collection.

Yvette had no patience for fishing, but her scuba gear had yet to be unpacked and the swarm would only stick around for so long.

Luckily, there were quicker ways to get what she wanted.

”Ready down there?” She called to her fancy new Qwilfish. He only replied with a gloomy glare. Well too bad for him. This was a perfect opportunity to catch something new, and test out his new fire power.

Like the old saying goes; two fish, one bomb.

”Alright, take em out!” The pufferfish sighed as he sunk beneath the waves. After a few moments of silence, the water exploded into a spray of sea foam, and several Alomomola floated to the surface with painful-looking barbs imbedded into their sides.

Now to see which of them were worth catching…

This requires further experimentation.

Yvette didn’t have a water mount on hand, but flying into the newest rift on her Hydreigon was just as good. Maybe better, even, since it allowed her to hover safely above the storm while she carefully lowered her lassoed Qwilfish into the dome.

Like reverse-fishing.

The pufferfish gave her disgruntled look from below, but she just flashed it a reassuring thumbs up as it was swallowed up by the darkness of the distortion. She waited a few moments, until a similar crash of lightning to what she’d heard the last time echoed from within, and she quickly tugged at the rope until her Pokémon was back in sight.

The change was less drastic this time, and she would almost attribute it to some kind of shinyfication (a completely real word she made up just now), if it weren’t for the altered marking on its tail fin.

”A little more boring, isn’t it?”
