she can see the elevator descending and her heart's pounding. she tells herself to calm the heck down but it doesn't work. she's swallowing hard and she glances at the receptionist--mistake.[break][break]

the receptionist gave her a wink of encouragement that only makes francie blink curiously. she's a little confused, what does the wink mean? and then she hears the elevator.[break][break]

her heart sinks for a second as the doors open but then she sees his face and she's beaming at him. his texts are vibrating in her pocket and left unread as he wraps her up and she takes the hug in an excited laugh.[break][break]

"BARNABY???" she mocks him and then she straight up latches onto him like an excited pansage, clinging desperately to him and giggling like a fool.[break][break]

she always feels the most like herself with him and she can't even explain it.[break][break]

"i'm here to see you, ya goof!" she leans back, and if he does or doesn't put her down she doesn't care. she's petting his hair gently and being an overall dork, including a silly and excited expression of childlike joy.[break][break]

"look. your face. it's right here. i can touch your face."

francie doesn't realize there is somebody there until the brothers beside her start to growl. the low snarl has francie sniffing, putting her hands on them to clam them. this is her goodbye, this is her determination to do better.[break][break]

she stands and returns both, then turns to look at who is there. when she seems the figure, she almost wonders if it's a trick. like when BARNABY FINCH and SILAS BLACKWELL appeared in the mist not long ago.[break][break]

but the sight of him isn't as terrible as she had hoped. she's vulnerable and she wants to walk over and hug him, but she doesn't. the control causes her hands to shake as she wipes her face again.[break][break]

"what brings you to mt. pyre, ferny?"[break][break]

after all, he's not mr. silph anymore.

there's a moment of hesitation. like this woman wants to take francie up on her deal. she wonders for a moment, well why not say yes then?[break][break]

then a hand raises and francie realizes that this person is not alone. this person has coms in. this person clearly is more prepared for this entire thing than francie is, because she doesn't even have a com. she just has a mission and completes it. like investigate the weird in the cave with Greyson Connors and then head back.[break][break]

now she's being taken by the midsection to the ground and francie let's out the most undignified,[break][break]

"AAACK!!!"[break][break]

as they tumble to the ground, i.t. clearly doesn't appreciate what's happened because an earthquake of pure rage rumbles between itself and the tyranitar it has pinned against the cave.[break][break]

lincoln becomes protective immediately and uses an accelerock to close the distance between himself and the woman with pink hair that's atop francie. knocking the woman off, or so he hopes.[break][break]

not that francie realized it as she was tackled, but she had gripped the girl with pink hair like she'd been meant to be picked up. they tumble and their bodies are tangled. she can feel bruises being created, scrapes and cuts. namely as lincoln's protective nature sends them tumbling away even more. when she opens her eyes there's a fluff of pink hair above her.[break][break]

she's pinned, and the coms that the rocket had in her ear are on the ground. lincoln crushes them with his claws on his way over, growling low. francie holds her hand up and lincoln stops in his tracks, still growling. francie's honey eyes are looking to the girl above her.[break][break]

the ice causes francie to stiffen, her body tenses. she watches carefully, both of her pokémon move toward her and keep her guarded. even from this person who seems to be a friend.[break][break]

instead of instructing them, francie returns both of them. her shoulders roll and she lets out a light laugh; it's hollow.[break][break]

"uh... i will be, eventually, i think."[break][break]

but now isn't the time. right now she's trying to get out. she looks to the other, eyes less cold and now empty. they look like they're a little lost. so too is she.[break][break]

"you wouldn't happen to know the way outta here, would you?"

there is a look in remi's face she knows all too well. it's the look of, 'live to fight another day.' and the look of a certain kind of heartbreak.[break][break]

"gotcha," she calls her carracosta back, captain returning to her ball. she's distracted by the earthquake and the chaos. she reaches to return her lycanroc as well, taking remi's open hand without hesitation and lacing their fingers together-- f-for stability.[break][break]

"course i trust you," she's still got her ball out, it's trying to recall louie but the vortex is between them. "we're friends."[break][break]

concentration furrows her brow as she tries again, panic settling into her chest. the realm's been doing a number on her and suddenly she's terrified. the capsule's link isn't being created and she grips remi's hand.[break][break]

"LOUIE?!"[break][break]

but it's likely her voice can't be heard, the capsule's not making it's connection and little does she know, her companion has long since began drowning.

the moment the salamence takes off, louie finds himself yelping. instead of keeping his grip with his jaws like he planned, he loses that grip and, once the fly takes off, hits the ground.[break][break]

francie can hear the crack from where she is and she quickly returns him, the metal burst she knows will damage her boy's ears, so she returns that one as well.[break][break]

three down, three to go... but don't be reckless, francie.[break][break]

"you win." she said gently before eyeing the other, furrowing her brows. "so you win this time. i'm lookin' forward to our next rematch."[break][break]

with that, she takes the opportunity to flee. it seems cowardly of course, but she knows that it's more important to live to fight anther day than to recklessly put her pokémon at risk.

"oh good, i'll take one you take the other, yea?" she gives a wink before focusing on her boys.[break][break]

command after command are given. the battle isn't easy, they have underhanded tricks. but the two of them pull it out. a victory is successful, the com station is protected, and francie's beaming.[break][break]

her boys are weaker so she returns them to their capsules, one having knocked other pokémon out, their victory clear.[break][break]

"nailed it!" she beams at matias. "thanks for the help matias! hopefully we can work together again sometime soon, huh? we make a pretty good team."

those iron defenses mean nothing to the iron thorns. it makes a wild charge forward, electricity crackling around its body as it screeched while slamming into the tyranitar heavily, attempting to push it back against the cave wall.[break][break]

"well why not? just cause your team's fighting my team doesn't mean i can't make sure you're okay." francie beams at her, watching as lincoln creates a solid foundation for them from the rocks using rock tomb.[break][break]

"besides, i was gonna ask why you're fighting anyway," she's made her way over, eyes shining with the hope that maybe this lady won't make her fight anymore; she's so tired. "like, couldn't we just head back? oh, maybe i can treat you to a coffee or shake or somethin'? peanut butter and cookies 'n' cream shake sounds so dope right now..."

as they lay the bat to rest, francie considers what greyson has told her. the idea that water moves might work. the only true water move that her azumaril had was aqua tail and aqua ring.[break][break]

"hey mary, can we get a little water for this beast?"[break][break]

francie is sure to keep her tone soft, respectful for the mood of loss. mary does as she's asked, the ooze starting to slide off of the beast's body. a chime of sorts radiates, mechanical gratitude being shown.[break][break]

she smiles, then moves over to the creature and places a hand on its muzzle, an understanding lingering in their eyes.[break][break]

"that's okay. we'll get all this gunk off of ya and get you safe, okay?"[break][break]

a trust develops, the cleanliness of the ooze from the beast creates a trust between them. it is calmed, it is calmed by the kindness it seas and the sorrow it held in slaying a creature unknowingly. and this resolve, it shares with francie.

there was just something about looking into the horizon, toward where that realm was, that made francie's skin crawl. a sort of fear and paranoia moving over her person. she tried to shove it aside, but really, she just shoved it inside. not knowing that it would later be her own unraveling.[break][break]

but for now, she's focused. for now, she follows MATIAS SILPH' lead by throwing out her arm out and winking at her lycanroc, louie.[break][break]

"let's go boys!"[break][break]

she means both matias and her dusk form lycanroc, who leaps from where he is and lands close to the field. he doesn't land close to the kingler, instead landing away far enough that his stomping tantrum he begins doesn't hit the crab and instead, shakes the foundation of the other two pokémon that were thrown out against them.
