There was a pedantic argument to be made that a bunch of Ghost-type Pokémon had technically come back from the dead, but Andrea wasn't exactly in the right headspace to have a nerdoff. Besides, Meatloaf's case had been an entirely different kind of miracle--a tale of frost and thaw.

"I have to." Answered Andrea, both on why she hoped and why she kept going. "I have a son back home that needs me. His name is Jalapeño. He's a Fuecoco." She stated very matter-of-factly, joining the masked man in staring wistfully at the test tubes. "For his sake, I have to survive this. No matter how much they hurt me, it's nothing compared to the pain of never seeing him again..."

Once everyone had made it to the platform, Andrea unmasked herself, searching for familiar faces among the packed crowd. With faction interests threatening the stability of this fleeting alliance, some inmates may have opted to maintain their veil of anonymity; a maudlin masquerade.

She saw her friend Josh Devlin wielding a magenta sword befitting the Knight of Thunder. She saw Navy; no longer a hobo, but a hero. She saw Ettie in what appeared to be the early stages of transforming into a Were-Lycanroc.

She approached the latter, using her sleeve to wipe the blood off the feral teenager’s muzzle like a mother cleaning her child after a messy meal. “Attagirl! When it comes to Megalopolans, you gotta bite them before they can bite you.”

Their prison break was not without its setbacks. Johanna Joy and many others were hurting from the Toxic Chain’s treacherous side effects. Naturally, the PokéManiac was worried for the well-being of her cellmate, but her reassurance helped her focus on the mission at hand.

Indeed, this could very well be their last chance to save the tortured Oni, whose new mask had turned it into a wrathful, fire-breathing Asura. A smack of Toxic Chained Nihilego aided its fiery assault, littering the floor with entry hazards.

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki sprung to mind, who was also in the prison according to her surrogate father, and who had an affinity for those particular Ultra Beasts. Although unaware of the monstrous extent of that affinity, Andrea had faith in the girl’s ability to resonate with Manju’s kin. “Baki, the jellyfishes!” She hollered. “You can save them, right?”

Regardless of whether her call would be answered or not, the young woman shot upwards on her makeshift wings, flying over the pointed stones and the Oni’s wave of hellfire. She then dove down and attempted to hug the creature from behind, even if it meant getting burned by the residual embers from its Hearthflame Mask.

She knew naught of the invisible thread that inextricably tied her to the tiny ogress. All she knew was that she was in agony--far more than the people she hurt in her blind rage--and nobody deserved to suffer such sleepless torment.

“Hang on, we’re gonna save you from this pain, I promise!” Andrea tried to hold the creature in place, mustering every ounce of strength left in her ailing body to do so. “IS THERE A DOCTOR HERE?!” She cried into the ether. “She’s had a Worry Seed planted into her body! We need to get it out of her!”

While an epic showdown occurred nearby, Andrea let her newly acquired Stunfisk out of its ball for some tough love. “Electrocuting humans is wrong! Bad Pancake!” She chastised the ugly fish, whose name was henceforth ‘Pancake’.

The Ground-type did not seem upset at being scolded by its new trainer. If anything, it relished other people’s suffering with a mischievous, borderline sadistic smile.

A second Discharge was aimed at a wild Umbreon that tried to ambush them. The black fox yelped in agony just as the human had earlier. It promptly collapsed, its eyes turning into swirls, while its hind leg twitched.

The PokéManiac sighed, throwing another Pokéball. “I guess having a living taser around ain’t that bad.” Finally, she nodded at Eli’s words. “Yeah, let’s call it a day. My whole body hurts. See you at the hot springs tomorrow?”

Andrea smiled warmly at the introductions of man and bird alike. “Nice to meet you, Beck, and Sora! I have a Salamence named Sora too!” She remarked, thinking fondly of the day the azure dragoness had earned her nickname.

A wild Dragonite took interest in the dragon-costumed human, who playfully indulged its curiosity with a couple of aerial tricks that pumped her full of adrenaline. “Woohoo! Sygna Suits are the best!” Nothing beat the sensation of flying in the air. It was the truest expression of freedom.

Beckett befriended the orange dragon, turning him getting lost into a net positive. “Nice catch! I bet we can find more Pokémon near the tower! Wanna race me there?” Andrea proposed, while pointing at the ancient skyscraper in the distance.

It might have just been bad luck, but their attacks had seemingly no effect. Lars' warning was moot, for there was nowhere to run either. The heroes were driven into a corner by the clay giant.

A boulder hit Andrea in the stomach. The Sygna Suited trainer instinctively activated her PHYSICAL SHIELD at the last second, but it only lessened the damage. A throb of real pain shook her entire body, as she coughed up blood.

"I'm... b-bleeding?! But how?! I thought this was a simul--" Her sentence was cut off by the rocky golem grabbing her. "Guh! L-let me go!" The girl grunted, trying to wrest herself free to no avail.

Before Regirock could crush every bone in her body with its super-powered fists, it dissipated into a mess of pixels along with the simulated space.

Back in the real world, the young PokéManiac collapsed on her knees, clutching her sides, while inhaling sharply. "W-what just happened...?" She muttered, still shaken by her near-death experience.

Something other than the Braviary was soaring the Hoennian skies. Was it a bird? A plane? No, it was... a human woman dressed up in a Hydreigon Sygna Suit. And you will believe that she could Fly!

Andrea was thrilled to finally be able to explore the Sky Pillar without getting jumped by Kyogre or getting sucked into an Ultra Wormhole. On her way there, the draconic cosplayer spotted a bespectacled youth who reminded her of nagi miwa, thus she glided down to meet him face to face.

"Hi there! Are you an explorer too? My name's Andrea, and this is Chomper!" The airborne girl jovially introduced herself as well as the shiny Hydreigon hovering alongside her, looking almost like her long-lost sibling.

Explore and hope. That advice was as generic as they come, but there didn’t seem to be anything else they could do. Their hellish prison was filled with secret rooms. The only way to find what they were looking for was to search every last one of them.

The dragon-costumed girl darted her head at the mystery man’s next question. “O-of course I think they’re alive! I refuse to believe anything else!” Was her hasty retort. “Even Meatloaf… I know I saw his Pokéball get smashed, but my gut tells me he might’ve survived, somehow. It wouldn’t be the first time he came back from the dead…”

The hoarseness of the voice combined with the fact that the person before her still wore a mask made identification difficult. Had his voice not been drained of its 'color', she might have been able to recognize him as the owner of that weird-looking ball--the man who had all but groveled at the enemy's feet in an attempt to spare the life of his bear.

Alas, even in the dream world they were total strangers. Even so, the design of his mask provided a useful clue. "You're in Dummy Ward too, aren't you?" The draconic cosplayer deduced, before turning her attention back to the Pokémon suspended in tubes. "Yeah, these are mine... If only I could break them out, I'd make that monkey pay for what it did!" She slammed an angry fist against the unbreakable glass.

It was then that she realized this shared dreamscape allowed her to converse with other inmates, even ones she had never met before. The plotting potential was insane. Plotting their escape, that is. "We need a plan. If our friends are in this dream, that must mean they're still alive in the real world. If we can find them, then we can fight back. But how do we find them?"

Upon seeing the damage done to the Flygon's wings, Andrea felt awful for pushing Josh--and by extension, Verte--into doing this. Battles were a lot less fun when the Pokémon got seriously hurt. Regardless, their risky combo had paid off. Lam deemed them worthy of the badge.

"It's over..." The draconic cosplayer slumped down onto the ground, too drained emotionally from the whole experience to stand. Her similarly exhausted Hydreigon followed suit, lying next to its trainer with its tongues hanging out of its mouths.

"I'm sorry about Verte, Josh... If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know." She knew her fellow Gym Leader was no stranger to having his Pokémon convalesce after a grievous injury, but she still held herself accountable and as such wanted to make it right.

Andrea tended to her grepa berries, her passho berry, and her pumpkin. "Wait a minute, I don't remember planting a pumpkin!" She realized, and indeed, this was no ordinary pumpkin; it was a sneaky Gourgeist trying to steal her harvest.

"Go, my son!" The costumed trainer sent out Jalapeño, her Fuecoco. Thanks to a Dragon Cheer sung by her Alolan Exeggutor's three heads, the tiny crocodile received a tremendous morale boost, which translated into a powered up Fire Blast.

The ghostly vegetable was cooked medium rare, allowing Andrea an opportunity to throw a Pokéball at it.

Over the course of what felt like a week, the wardens ran them to the ground through toil, punishment, and laughter. The execution and resuscitation of one Leon Settentrioné served as a cruel reminder of their fate: They would work for their captors, bleed for them, entertain them, and only be allowed a merciful death when their usefulness had expired.

The Oni was likewise overworked to the point of exhaustion, forcibly kept awake through seeds of worry. That explained why she had been curiously absent from the dream world, at least. Andrea’s heart bled for the poor, sleep-deprived ogress, while at the same time losing the last iota of forgiveness she might have had towards the wardens.

The spark of rebellion was kept alive through dreamlike visions, magical tears, and the guiding voice of their guardian angel. On the last day, she did not eat her mochi. She instead stored it inside her cleavage for later use. The spark became a full-blown bonfire, triggering a domino reaction that threw the heinous trio’s plans into complete disarray.

As the riots began, the PokéManiac’s surging WILLPOWER caused her magenta tethers to split into a pair of TOXIC CHAIN WINGS. Although she could barely walk in her broken, emaciated state, those wings allowed her to fly as if she wore her Sygna Suit. They were a manifestation of her desire to become a Pokémon combined with the desire for freedom.

“Eat your mochi!” The dragon enthusiast yelled, tossing mochi in Munkidori’s eyes to temporarily blind him. “Take my hand, Johanna! We’re flying to the basement!” She then urged her cellmate, Johanna Joy. With her newfound flight ability, she attempted to reach the feeding pit, while doing her best to dodge the monkey’s psychic projectiles.
