"Sounds like a great idea to me!" Shalin cheered, making a note to mark her calendar for the day they agreed upon. The Captain had brought several of her Pokémon there for a Sygna Suit demonstration much like the one she had given Miyako. The abilities it gave her dazzled those who weren't afraid of the loud noise, watching in awe as Shalin held onto the wing of her Flygon and disappeared into a blur when she performed at the carnival.

Shalin noticed Miyako's eyes wouldn't leave Savanna's empty saddle, sensing her desire to mount the fastest land Pokémon she had. "Yeah, quite a few of them from the Vital City Tournament were like that. They're just... built differently. I don't work with Savanna as much as I'd like. She's just... too fast for me. Otherwise I would have challenged Josh's Gym with her a long time ago. It's... the one thing my suit doesn't help me ride, and that's Pokémon with high sustained speed. I wouldn't be able to hop on her with you, but if you want a run with her, you're more than welcome to. Just... be careful with her. It feels like you're riding lightning itself when she's at speed. It's... paralyzing."

"It'll be just like learning anything else new," Shalin replied to them as more of her Pokémon gathered around to see the impressive trio of Meowth-line Pokémon that Makoto raised. "Spend enough time in Petalburg, or any city, and you'll know its main thoroughfares inside and out." Not only would her commute to Petalburg HQ be shorter, but the beach was much more accessible. The small lake on the Romping Grounds was adequate for her water-types, but there was truly nothing like the open ocean.

The rest of Shalin's Shiny Eeveelutions joined her, keeping varying distances depending on their comfort level with strangers. All of them except for Starr wore riding tack, Rielle the Vaporeon flicking her tail upward and playfully splashing water over the trio of felines. "Doesn't matter to me!" Shalin agreed, allowing them to get to know more of her Pokémon team better. A team that was quite large, but needed, for her career as a Captain. The afternoon would fly by, the trio of Meowth-line Pokémon getting to meet many of Shalin's most loyal partners...

Shalin at first could not see; the white of the bright sunlight made her vision but a haze. As defaced buildings, sand-filled streets, and Rocket-filled streets came into view, Shalin's heart sank. "This isn't my home," the Captain denied at first, vividly recalling what her city looked like. Though the urban landscape had been transformed in howard slayte 's violence against the League, the roads were in the same places as they once were, though many were still being cleansed of sand. Peering toward the west, where a thriving port once was, it was filled with vessels... but none of them had the League emblem upon them.

Those trapped within the city feared for their lives. Even a simple trip to a grocery store had been stopped by overzealous Rocket patrols, a Scyther holding one civilian hostage for making a remark the Rocket didn't like. Turning a corner to face Petalburg Woods, Shalin recognized the building that the Ranger HQ was once located in. Graffiti covered every single League emblem the building had been plastered with, the building and its training grounds in the back repurposed into a Pokémon lab. One that no doubt conducted inhumane experiments much like Shalin had been subject to when Dorian's Venusaur whipped her about unprotected. While the wind burns from the dangerous ride were long gone, her joints were still on the mend due to only getting enough care to keep them from becoming completely dysfunctional.

She looked beneath her to see she was strapped to the back of an unfamiliar Pokémon. "What is this Pokémon?" Shalin asked, trying to hold back anger from seeing her precious Petalburg mutilated. "I've never seen one like this before."

It took a while for Shalin to respond to Vio's command to engage the suit's kill switch. She was still on quite the adrenaline high while Saria's whip twirled her about post-crack. Once she stopped shaking from the Infinity Energy coursing through her, she slid off the vine and deactivated her suit, turning it inert. "Aww, you're missing out by not giving it a try yourself," she brazenly replied, trying in vain to lighten Vio's attitude some.

As Shalin's suit and Pokémon were again taken from her, Vio had a question as to how she got involved with the League. "Coincidence, mostly," she answered. "I did a lot of Ranger work, specifically with unruly wild Pokémon causing towns trouble. When boruta maher stepped down as Rustboro's Captain, I ended up running for it because of my home's proximity and suggestions from the Head Rangers at the time. They felt I would make a good Captain. I got the position. And it was only really then that things changed." Shalin huffed. "I will say this: it's not just problems I have with Rocket. I don't think the League is good, either. I just think they're less bad than Rocket is for Hoenn. Kinda like when there's two Mayoral candidates and you don't want to vote for either of them because you think they're both shady? Same for League and Rocket. I don't like either of their agendas. But if they both fall, the DRK Triad will easily usurp Hoenn." The presence of a third front that clearly intended to wipe both sides off the face of the region through the Origin Point was a far greater threat to Hoenn than League or Rocket was.

Bass Boost was a terrifying sight in combat. She would routinely slam her front feet into the ground once the bumps on her arms were humming. It was enough seismic force to knock almost anyone off their feet. "And not just the big ones either. Could you imagine sitting between a Celebi's wings?" she asked, knowing just how impossible it would be due to the time-traveler's small size. "Maybe in the spring when the weather warms up, we can go. There's lots to do there, and I haven't heard from Joy since I last went there. Wonder if the park got new management."

It tracked that Miyako would have questions about the unusual Zeraora... and that she would be attracted to the thundercat's extreme speed. From what little they had known one another, she surmised that the officer could handle that kind of speed better than she could. "Oh, that's Savanna, the Zeraora I won from getting fourth place at the Vital City Tournament in January," she explained. "A significant number of them are more comfortable running on all fours. She's a bit fast for me to ride routinely. I tried to see if Josh Devlin would be interested in another, but he said two is enough for his Gym." Catching sight of Shalin, the feline zipped toward the duo and stopped to let out a prideful and enthusiastic roar. It wasn't as loud as a Pyroar's, but it was still more than enough to grab attention from her other Pokémon. Unlike many of Shalin's Pokémon, this Zeraora wore a cocoon saddle meant for flying Pokémon.

It wasn't just the speed and the stench that bothered Shalin; Yveltal's wings were so huge that every flap of them felt like the death-coated bird was trying to buck her off. Far from it; that just reflected how powerful the muscles inside the giant bird's body were. Shalin did not respond to Lutgarde's inquiry, instead using every last ounce of strength and focus she had to grip the Terastal Yveltal midflight. The TAILWIND that blew behind them was more impressive than that of any other flying Pokémon she had been aboard.

As the stench disappeared more and more throughout the dark-type legendary bird's climb, so did the Terastal legendary's form. As they soared higher and higher out of the Giant Chasm, its form became more and more transparent -- until it disappeared completely, Sylph catching them both and floating to safety. It would not be until they touch the ground that Shalin would reply with a moan. "I feel... sick..."

Just how long would the evil stench linger?

At last recovering her senses enough to be fully cognizant and fully utilize motor skills once again, Shalin slid down from the vine that had previously flicked and flung her about too fast to see. Once she was on her own two feet again, the glow of her suit and Saria's vine faded completely.

Shalin felt bad for Vess; it seemed like her little demonstration had only confused her. There were a lot of nuances to Sygna Suits, including many she herself didn't understand. "I can try to answer your questions, but I'm no expert on the technology. I just know what I can and can't do with my own suit."

Shalin's dream was a mix of good and bad. Time and time again, she had been overshadowed. Ignored. Ridiculed for the way she battled. Not just on one side, either. On both sides, thanks to Calpurnia Kubrick . Shalin took personal offense to her scathing remarks, as justifiable as they were in the scientist's eyes. Vibration was a potent weapon at the right amplitudes and frequencies. Was that something she just did not see? Something that her comrades in battle did not see?

"I... want to make... a difference," the sleep-deprived Captain replied. "To help secure and protect... Hoennians... in a way only I can." She exhaled, frustration building upon seeing the League's true heroes always seeming to walk alongside the gods. Seeing howard slayte level her city with Regice and Regirock made her feel like there was nothing she could do. And with her Sygna Suit's weak point to ice, there was little she could do in such a situation.

Little was she aware that the Captivator would never be a title bestowed upon her. If anyone, Absinthe Blackwood . What would she say were the two to meet in the future...?
