The last word to leave the professor's mouth was clipped as his friend brought him in for a hug. He hesitated for a brief moment, unused to public displays of affection like this, but quickly returned the embrace with a soft pat of his own.[break][break]

"Thank you." He replied as Ollie pulled back, feeling a little sheepish at the compliment. "You too."[break][break]

Throughout their exchange Gideon's expression remained a pleasant neutral, but there was a growing heat under his turtleneck collar and the faintest tinge of red creeping up the back of his neck.[break][break]

"This place looks amazing, by the way. You did a great job coordinating all this."

Dr. Graves arrived a little late to beat the rush. The plan was to keep things lowkey tonight, after all.[break][break]

It was a relief to not have to worry about the intricacies of running an event like this one. Last year it was his museum decked out for the holidays, filled to the brim with Hoenn citizens eager to enjoy the festive mood. He felt a similar mirth here, in the observatory.[break][break]

The professor's first stop was to drop off his gift at the theater room. Wrapped in a neat package was A Field Guide to Common Hoenn Bug Pokémon, a text which he co-authored and contributed to as one of the main photographers. He knew it probably wouldn't appeal to everyone, but figured it could be regifted easily enough.[break][break]

Once the gift was added to the growing pile, he returned to the main area and lingered near the center of the room, taking a moment to marvel at the sheer impressiveness of the Mossdeep telescope. He noticed Gunner Graves and mila alexopoulos out of the corner of his eye — in matching outfits, no less... — as well as ollie morales being his usual sociable self.

Heavy breathing and unstifled moans filled GIDEON GRAVES's small Slateport apartment as the two men worked together to try and quell their growing need. Slick hands pressed them together until an upwelling of pleasure overtook them, leading to mutual release.[break][break]

Gideon shuddered and then stilled, lowering his head to pant softly against the ranger's shoulder. A quiet moment followed the climax.[break][break]

But it wasn't enough. GIDEON GRAVES was hungry for more. He wanted to see, feel, touch ollie morales in ways he'd never had before. Alcohol had bleached any modicum of reason left in the professor's head. [break][break]

They'd already crossed the line. There was no going back now.[break][break]

He pulled away, touching foreheads with his friend once again.[break][break]

"...Come to bed with me." He beckoned with a husky voice filled with unhidden lust.

"Rusturf Tunnel. It seems like a maintenance crew may have stumbled upon something of historical value. The museum was asked to investigate." Gideon replied before taking another sip of his tea.[break][break]

"We're unsure as of yet, but it appears so, yes. Several pages have been found in differing Ultra Wilds locations."[break][break]

Just then, a somewhat frantic-looking docent gingerly walked over and whispered something in the museum director's ear. Gideon's soft smile visibly flattened and he turned to Hazel as his employee moved to leave.[break][break]

"I hate to cut our meeting short, but something's come up that requires my immediate attention." [break][break]

He could never have a moment's peace, could he?[break][break]

"Please stay as long as you'd like. You're welcome to explore the museum at your leisure as well." With this the director stood and extended a hand to shake @albrecht's.[break][break]

Porcelain plates clattered against stainless steel as Gideon set what he could into the sink. He turned the faucet, allowing water to wash what was left of their dinner down the drain.[break][break]

Dirty liquid swirled downward and out of sight. He watched this, though his gaze was unfocused, his thoughts on something else entirely. On her, on whatever their relationship was.[break][break]

The professor felt the soft impression of her cheek on his back and stiffened slightly, unused to such intimate touch. They hadn't been this way since before Granite Cave.[break][break]

"Why are you sorry?" He questioned quietly, though he didn't move to face her... until he felt the telltale sign of tears seeping through his shirt.[break][break]

Turning around now, it hurt his heart to see her in this way — eyes bloodshot, voice trembling. He couldn't help but cradle her jaw in the palm of his good hand and gently wipe the tears away with his thumb.[break][break]

"You didn't do anything wrong, Elisabeth. None of this is your fault." His trauma was his own. He needed to work through it without being a burden on others.[break][break]

He let the man work, only watching to make sure he handled the documents and artifacts appropriately. [break][break]

Being a Bug-type expert, he knew that the VOLCARONA-esque Pokémon was nothing like any species currently known to science. A regional form? Possibly, though unlikely. And for it to appear at the same time as so many other odd, yet vaguely familiar Pokémon... [break][break]

Correlation was not causation, but the coincidence prompted further, future investigation, to be sure. He'd need to get Mint's contact information to follow-up.[break][break]

"Hm? Ah," Gideon looked up from the tome he'd taken from a nearby shelf, pausing briefly to remember where the restroom actually was in this maze of a room.[break][break]

"Down this corridor to your left. Hug the wall and you should see it."

Leafing through the blueprints within the folder, it didn't take long for Gideon to find the page with a schematic showing just that. There was a slot for the corresponding type "disc" to be inserted on the side of the creature's head.[break][break]

"It can be done," The professor continued, absentmindedly pinching the bridge of his nose as he spoke — a bad habit born out of intense thought.[break][break]

"And with few losses, even. I just need DNA samples from candidate Pokémon of each type. The procedure need not be invasive. However,"[break][break]

"That's not the moral dilemma here. Splicing all these genes together is akin to making a literal Frankenstein." A monster among monsters. Who knew how it would react once granted sentience? There were variables that could not be controlled for, after all.[break][break]

"It hasn't been done before in civilized society, as far as I'm aware. This creation..." He paused, leveling PENELOPE LIVY with a pointed expression. She needed to know what she was getting herself into.[break][break]

"Giddy works." The professor replied, bringing the camera up to his eye. If ollie morales insisted on nicknames, he supposed that one wasn't the worst.[break][break]

As the ranger got into position, Gideon gave a thumbs up and then counted down, "3... 2... 1..."[break][break]

Just before he clicked to take the picture, a PIKACHU flashed into frame. Its timing couldn't have been more perfect.[break][break]

Checking how the image came out anyway, he ended up chuckling under his breath and calling Ollie over, "Ha. Come here."[break][break]

He angled the camera screen so the other man could see it.[break][break]

"This actually turned out pretty cute."[break][break]

Was it because of Tofu's photobombing? Or because of the ranger posing goofily in the foreground?[break][break]

Maybe a little of both.[break][break]

Oh, and somehow, the corner of CRISPR's wing made it into the frame, too, as the VIVILLON brought a sleeping MASQUERAIN over the the pile.

It didn't matter.[break][break]

Not to GIDEON GRAVES. All he desired in this moment was ollie morales, and to hear the other man felt the same... that he showed it, not only with his words, but with an eager hand and greedy lips—[break][break]

It was euphoric. To feel wanted.[break][break]

Gideon indulged in the feeling without restraint, drinking in every kiss with equal enthusiasm, spurred on by the thought of what came next.[break][break]

When Ollie pulled away and touched his forehead to Gideon's, the professor held his friend's fiery gaze with a longing expression of his own. [break][break]

Without looking down, he fumbled at Ollie's zipper for a moment, either nerves or drink or both slowing his touch, before the fabric finally unfurled. Gideon then unzipped his own slacks and pressed himself against the other man. An amorous sigh escaped his lips as they touched.[break][break]

"Show me then..." The professor implored lowly, his voice thick with a need not sated for far too long.[break][break]

Grabbing Ollie's hand with a firm but affectionate hold, he'd guide them together in slaking their mutual need.

thread summary: What starts out as a routine visit by Gunner Graves to Gideon's laboratory, ends with a grave revelation about the whereabouts of Elisabeth Fiorelli and her ties to ROCKET.

why is it important?: OOF. This thread has been a long time coming. Scarlet and I have been shipping Gideon and Elisa since October of last year, knowing full well that eventually Gideon would find out about her ROCKET affiliation.

Thanks to Gunner and his LEAGUE intel, we're finally at that tipping point. The fallout from this revelation will impact Gideon in many ways (most of them not good, because I love torturing him! hehe).

I made Gideon knowing I wanted him to feel very "real" as a more mundane character interfacing with the absurd happenings in Hoenn. POSTDORMITUM was a pivotal event for him, because it showcased not only some of the crazy anomalies in the region (Paradox Pokémon, the Ultra Deep Sea, etc.) but also how cruel ROCKET could be during times of conflict (thanks, parker jones for almost killing him and Elisabeth Fiorelli for dislocating his shoulder!).

He came back from that conflict very much changed.

Gideon's burdened by the horrible things he's witnessed. By the pain that's been inflicted upon him, both emotional and physical. The pressures of his job, compounded by the mental anguish he faces on a daily basis due to his PTSD.

And now, by the realization that someone he thought he loved was actually a criminal. The entire relationship was a farce. He feels used, he feels cheated, he feels outraged. This event has completely cemented his hatred for ROCKET.

He doesn't know what to do with these feelings, though. The mental load he's bearing is too much. He needs something to ease the burden. He needs a drink. And that's where the thread ends, foreshadowing Gideon's spiral into alcoholism.

Shoutout to Guns, who does such an incredible job writing Gideon's younger brother! I'm always surprised by how much I enjoy writing them together (because I'm a spoiled only child), but I feel like we've gotten to write some wonderful and insightful threads due to the sibling bond we've fostered! Ty Guns, ilu ♡

The roaring in his ears intensified to a dizzying degree. Gideon felt himself careen from the sheer absurdity of what he was hearing; the vial of blood fell from one hand, the other reached out to steady himself on the lab bench.[break][break]

Luckily, Proteus had been watching attentively, acutely attuned to his trainer's emotional wellbeing. The SLOWKING knew something was wrong. It used its PSYCHIC powers to halt the vial in midair before it could shatter on the ground below, placing it gently onto the counter near where Gideon's hand gripped the edge.[break][break]

"No, there has to be a mistake. It's not possible." [break][break]

She'd been a student at the university. Attended the Winter Masquerade as a charitable donor. Laughed and carried on with both of them on their double date.[break][break]

And so much more. All at once, every memory of Elisabeth Fiorelli flashed in his mind's eye. The professor tried to parse out hints of the truth — evidence that he hadn't been taken for a damned, ridiculous fool.[break][break]

"Damn it..." He breathed out, shaking his head.[break][break]

Denial came and went. As the seconds drew longer, Gunner Graves's stark revelation became more and more plausible in Gideon's mind. Where devastation wore lines into his face, outrage soon deepened them. [break][break]

ROCKET. She was a fucking ROCKET. He'd almost died because of ROCKET, and now — [break][break]

Now, the woman he'd come to truly care for and depend on turned out to be a terrorist.[break][break]

GIDEON GRAVES wished she'd been dead. It would have been better than the truth.[break][break]

"I... I need time to process this." [break][break]

He couldn't stay here. Didn't want to talk anymore. Specifics were useless right now, when faced with such an overwhelming turn of events. He needed to leave.[break][break]

The blood draw was over almost as soon as it'd begun. Gunner had barely spoken and already Gideon was collecting his materials, prepared to dispose of the needle and store the sample within the nearby freezer.[break][break]

Under the guise of TEAM ROCKET, she'd manipulated him, tortured him, led him on to think that their relationship meant more than it did. And in the end, when he needed her most, she'd vanished.[break][break]

"She ghosted me."[break][break]

He breathed out a sigh, his voice sounding more tired than hurt. Gideon had already felt the pain of Elisa's loss. Grieved her absence, reconciled her abandonment. Though he didn't understand why, he supposed he wasn't necessarily owed that closure.[break][break]

"So, yes. I suppose I am."[break][break]

It was all very mechanical, the way the professor spoke, how he gathered his needle and vial, the way in which he beckoned Gunner Graves's TYPHLOSION over to him.[break][break]

"Be still. This will only hurt for a moment, girl." It took a few seconds to find a viable vein. Soon enough, blood coursed through the syringe and into the attached ampoule.
