Somehow, Mila had roped Gunner into letting her design his Sygna suit.[break][break]

More and more of the League's agents were getting their custom suits, but he still hadn't made plans for his. His initial idea was to go through the usual channels provided by the government, but Mila clearly wasn't going to let that happen.[break][break]

No, his suit was going to be a Primarina design.[break][break]

"Uh, okay." Gunner looked awkwardly at Guinevere, his Typhlosion and childhood friend. "We'll do a normal drill, Guin. Show Mila your best moves."[break][break]

A portion of Slateport Park had been set aside as an obstacle course for Pokémon, full of jumps, tunnels, and other agility exercises. Guinevere lumbered toward the start of the course on all fours, then looked to Gunner for the signal.[break][break]

The Fire-type surged into motion, dashing toward the first obstacle and leaping over it.

The Ferris wheel continued its slow cycle. Looking out the window, he watched the world rise up to meet them. Before long, they had reached the ground again. Gunner stepped out first and held out a hand to help Freya down, if she needed it.[break][break]

"You know, I wasn't expecting to have as much fun today as I did, but then you showed up," he told her after they'd stepped through the ride's exit gate. Instead of the earlier grin, he wore a pleasant smile.[break][break]

Gunner shifted on his seat in the Corviknight taxi carriage. Across from him sat his boss, PENELOPE LIVY, who had seemingly conjured flows and bubbles of lava just a few minutes ago, setting an office in the POG Bank building on fire.[break][break]

It was not Gunner's first encounter with the powers of an Avatar. He had read enough reports and observed enough abilities first-hand to understand what he'd just witnessed.[break][break]

Yet the suddenness of it—the fact that his own boss had these powers and he didn't know—made the whole incident difficult to swallow.[break][break]

Clearing his throat, Gunner broached the topic with a measure of hesitance. After all, Penelope looked exhausted, as if the entire ordeal had drained her. "Miss Livy, what exactly happened back there?"[break][break]

Below them, the landscape changed as they left the boundary of Slateport City.

Like Derek, Gunner struggled to haul everything they had gathered. After struggling for a moment, he lowered his collection of gems and minerals back to the ground. "Good idea," he said, dumping some of the mined materials back onto the ground.[break][break]

He hoped, though, he wouldn't have to come back that soon.[break][break]

Gunner released his Alakazam, prepared to give the command to teleport them back to the rift, when Derek mentioned a planet. Gunner turned in the direction the Ranger was staring and did a double take.[break][break]

Sure enough, there was a planet, and it looked shockingly like their own, but still different. Were they in space?[break][break]

Suddenly, Gunner did not want to think about that. "Yeah. I don't know what it is, but I don't like it." He signaled to his Alakazam. "Take us home, Merlin."[break][break]

The Pokémon nodded, and in the blink of an eye, they were gone.[break][break]

Before Gunner could decide if he wanted another snack, the floor quaked with incredible violence. He immediately shut the box and took a couple of steps backward; a Terastal crystal surged upward through the floor directly in front of him, the jagged surface bearing a menacing gleam in the light.[break][break]

Absently, Gunner spun the silver ring he'd brought back from the dreamlike Galar around his finger. He wore it often on the index finger of his left hand. "I don't blame you. That sort of thing is priceless, right?" he said.[break][break]

He palmed a Pokéball and released its resident into the water. His Raichu emerged in a flash of light, rubbing at her cheeks with dainty paws.[break][break]

"I don't know a thing about charming birds, but I bet Enid here could get it back for you."[break][break]

At the sound of her name, she perked up and made a noise of affirmation. Then, without waiting for Gunner to give her commands, she SURFED out toward the Cramorant. It spotted her right away and started to flap its wings nervously.
