Gunner had just finished setting up the mining equipment when DEREK HOFFMAN arrived on the scene. They didn't know each other, but Gunner recognized the other man from the defense of Mt. Pyre last autumn.[break][break]

"Hey," he greeted Derek as he stood and brushed the dirt off his knees. He paused as Derek set his expectations, then nodded. "Sure, that sounds fine."[break][break]

Gunner released his Stonjourner from a Pokéball.[break][break]

"Set up a WIDE GUARD around here, please," he instructed the Rock-type, who rumbled obediently and slammed his hands together to summon the shimmering fields.[break][break]

Derek takes the hand, feeling as though he should recognize the name. But seeing as they had a job to do, he doesn't waste precious time trying to figure it out. "Good to know. I'm Derek. Let's work."

Moving to rig his own little mining operation, the disorienting field of Eternatus' energy begins taking it's toll—Incomprehensible fear and dread creeping into the otherwise healthy human mind. As if on queue, the natural inhabitants of this place seek them out.

"Nice thinking with the shield." He doesn't recall ever opting for that approach, instead using an offensive method as a means to defend himself. It allows the two to take their time, resulting in Derek stripping what he believes to be dynamax candy from the ground. "Man, I can't wait for this stuff to be worth something."

While it was a priceless resource already, commercial use of dynamax tech would definitely make this all the more profitable. He's so caught up in the notion that Derek almost overlooks the growing anxiety, as well as the ultra beasts trying to break through the Stonjourner's protection.

While they worked, Gunner kept an eye on the entrance to the cavern. Sure enough, the noise of the mining machines attracted Ultra Beasts. Thankfully, Lamorak's WIDE GUARD held. The two men were able to focus on their task without worry about physical threats.[break][break]

The mental and emotional threats, however, came as Gunner expected. The nausea hit him first, then the anxiety. Sweat poured down his face as his fears deepened, there in the dark heart of the Ultra Deep Sea.[break][break]

"Hopefully it's worth something," he murmured, more skeptical than Derek. "Just a little bit more and we should be able to head back."[break][break]

Preoccupied by grand ideas, the slow intoxication gradually eclipses their reality. An abomination crafted in the mind takes shape via Eternatus' curious power, taking on a mostly unrecognizable form.

"Well, it better be worth this." Turning on the hostile mixture, the ranger's pokemon would attempt to lay it low with a reckless body press.

It was not Gunner's first time seeing an abomination rise from the depths of the chamber to attack them. His Stonjourner joined Derek's Steelix, attacking the strange creature with HEAVY SLAM.[break][break]

Gunner grimaced. The attacks were enough to disperse the amalgamated Pokémon, but the fact it had even assumed a physical form unnerved him. He wasn't well-versed enough in the energies of the area to understand what was causing such a phenomenon, and he didn't like it.[break][break]

The agent checked the mining equipment. The receptacles were almost packed full with Tera crystals and other unfamiliar gems. "I think this is enough. Let's get out of here," he said to Derek.[break][break]

Still, through these translucent barriers, you catch a glimpse of a nearby planet. One that looks suspiciously like the one you all live in—except that a large portion of it seems covered in land.[break][break]

You must escape with your gathered material. Your ally or allies may be incapacitated by the paranoia settling in their psyches, or perhaps, the eldritch mutations beginning to metamorphose their body or bodies.[break][break]

Depending on how much your characters have mined, you may need to lessen your extracted load to ensure successful escape from this wretched place. After all, the horrors that reside here may make chase.

Mindless drilling results in a bounty exceeding their means of transport. His focus is broken only by the spawning of a hundred hundred eyes that turn to look at their assumed invaders.

"I'm thinking you're right!" With Eternatus' attention turned to them, their presence is now perceived as more than a petty thief. They amount to something of a threat with this much haul. This much of it's power.

Hallucinations cause Derek to feel weighed by the burden of their loot. Trying to put it all onto the back of his Steelix is taxing. Even his pokemon seems unhappy under the weight of this burden. "Damn." The ranger looks over to Gunner, who also seems to be taking much too long. "I'm shedding some of the excess." They could always come back for it, so long as they survived.

Mounting the steel type, Derek motions for the exit before taking one last look at the planet one could survey through the translucent design of Eternatus' body. "Hey, you're seeing that planet too, right?" Worry festers about what it could mean for them. But that question was a question for the scientists.
