Gunner's question was not a matter of wanting a pair for himself. Indeed, the HBIC possessed all kinds of advanced technology thanks to Colton Boothroyd's ingenuity. That Serena had been allowed to borrow a pair is what surprised him.[break][break]

The agent handed the glasses back to her as he joined her in the elevator. "I know where to get my own if I need them," he shot back, tone caustic.[break][break]

The ride to the basement level was short, so short that he was surprised an elevator was necessary. When the doors opened, a dark chamber stood on the other side. Gunner stepped out cautiously, using a pocket flashlight to survey the room before looking for the lightswitch.[break][break]

When the lights turned on, they revealed an operating table in the center of the laboratory. Worn leather straps attached to the sides of the table suggested that test subjects could be tied down if necessary. A smaller table nearby held a metal tray.[break][break]

Gunner approached the operating table slowly, his muscles tense with anticipation and dread. The tile floor underneath it was clean, but a drain at the center and a faint stain surrounding it spoke volumes as to what might have happened before in that room.[break][break]

Without looking at Serena, Gunner asked, "What kind of experiments has Team Rocket done recently? Do you know?"
