Peeking over his shoulder, he expects to see Chomper rush forward to protect his human sister’s virtue. It is, after all, too late for grown men to be climbing through a woman’s window.[break][break]
But Chomper never comes. He’ll never fly to her window again. The green dragon is just another casualty of this war, forgotten the way Roland, Kiryu, Molly, and so many other Pokemon will be forgotten. Navy steps inside, feeling the windowsill under him, glances about the room, and has a seat. Only now does Tiny decide to return to him, resting in his lap.[break][break]
“Don’t think it’s a shard, the one Rocket has. It’s the real Charles’s twin. Well, that’s my guess, anyway. They’re equal and opposite.” It makes his head hurt just trying to explain it. He’s not a scientist.[break][break]

Somewhere far away, Navy’s body rests in waters blessed by Suicune. The injuries he sustained in Sootopolis have killed better men than he. To suffer a wound from Kyogre in the throes of primal rage alone would mean the death of many. To be pierced by Calyrex’s glacial lance would spell doom. Aoki Hana’s blade struck true and drew the first blood.[break][break]
So, the League’s fighting master rests. Mist laps at the edges of Greyson Connors’s chamber, fey mist that’s just a bit too sweet.[break][break]
In Navy’s chair, obscured from view, sits a Greninja. Small by the standards of his species, he’s never stood out much. His skin was burned black by Groudon, his eye gouged out by an avatar. Hattori knows many of the people in this room. He has taken it upon himself to sit here, honoring his Lord by attending the meeting in his place.[break][break]
Navy is not the only one so honored. Hattori’s a master thief. He pilfered valuable loot from noah faber’s home when last he visited. kyle lopez’s personal game console is the holy grail, loaded with high scores on old games. Navy always joked about how Kyle probably played it at these meetings where Hoenn’s fate is dictated. Hattori honors Kyle by beating all of those high scores while he listens.[break][break]
Plus, it passes the time. Where Navy was going to sit was never in question, and he can’t exactly speak to anyone. Greninja are not blessed with the gift of gab many in this room have.

Fire gathers around Arthur’s fist. His scales clang as he lunges, another fire punch shot out towards the ruby warrior.

Arceus, what a mess. He thinks, weary to his bones.[break][break]
“Rocket has a Calyrex like the one in Ever Grande. I think it’s the one that—” A pause, placed there by an epiphany. “You weren’t a part of that whole mess at the ancient tomb, were you? Arceus, it feels complicated to explain.” Another moment is taken to consider something, before he motions towards her house.[break][break]

Whether or not Andrea found the idea agreeable, it registered as a swell idea in Tiny’s tiny mind. He chirped, wanting Navy closer so all of his favorite people would be close by.

No one can block nigh-infinite origin pulses. No one can black the wicked aim of glacial lances. His injury was inevitable. “But Kyogre hasn’t avatared anyone. Not yet. Not as far as I can tell.” Even as the words are spoken, he wonders if they are true. Freya was swallowed whole and was released by the Leviathan. It reminds him of the story of Skyler Dross as he read it, swallowed and then given a bond with the great god of the sea.[break][break]
“And it’s scared. I know a girl who can read Pokemon’s emotions. Kyogre was panicking the whole time.” A pause lingers between them. He turns, looks at this girl granted power that will prove her damnation, should dahlia goode’s plans take root.[break][break]

“Lucky for you that Goode let me splurge on my budget for the booze.” He puts on a bartender’s smile, moving to grab her some wine. It seems odd, drinking the night before a battle. With a shrug, he pops the cork and pours history into a glass for her.[break][break]
“This was bottled the year one of Galar’s best champs first grabbed the title.” What he’d give to have met Gwyar Wledig and his wife in another life, to clash with them in simpler times for the glory of victory before a roaring crowd.[break][break]
“You ever wonder what life would’ve been like if we’d been born there? Both of us probably gym leaders, fighting for the title every year.” It’s a good thought, and he pours himself some wine while he imagines them both bathed in the lights and the cheers.

“Watch my back.” Nothing more is said. Navy has faith, simple animal faith, that Airi will do just as he says. He trusts her to mitigate the tidal wave of poison bearing down upon her. As is his role from now until the day he dies, he acts as a sword. He flies up, this two-headed twin-souled dragon. He launches himself into this poisonous mire.[break][break]
Vortigern strikes. Navy strikes. They blow fiery breath. They exact raw vengeance and justice upon it, cracking the surface of the black glass hit by bloody hit.
