Resting at the sheriff’s hip is a sword, the likes of which has not been seen in millennia. Ascalon, a blade that promises victory, rests in its scabbard. In the far distance, a mist hangs over the mountain at the island’s center. It warms the sheriff’s heart that this woman would come so far to answer the call.[break][break]
“Thanks for coming. Hoenn needs all the help that it can get in these trying times, especially my little town.” Turning, he means to lead her off the dock. With so much of the roads destroyed and cluttered by debris, many folk on the island have resorted to travelling by Pokemon like in the old days. Two steeds wait for them. One is a ghastly thing, her coat as black as midnight. The other is stark white, made of ice. They are steeds fit for kings and knights.[break][break]
“If you need a ride, feel free to take Slow Dancer there.” He nods at the Glastrier. “Valkyrie here’s mine.” Mounting up, he turns to give her a tour of the town. “How as the trip from Kalos?”

All around them, the symphony of howls, barks, and dragons plays on. Each of them plays their part. Arthur is lashed by his own strength, thrown back, his scales flying across the ground in a resounding clang. Pain means little for dragons. Pain is a signal that they must fight harder, lest they die. Arthur stands up. His hands once more grip into fists, only to-[break][break]
“Stop.” Says the Sheriff. The word comes too late to stop the harm done upon Leviathan and Grendel, but it will all even out in the end. Both Pokemon are thrown aside. Both are quickly recalled to stave off farther harm.[break][break]
“Well dang if you aren’t one of the best challengers I’ve ever had come through my gym. Usually, I don’t throw out nearly so many Pokemon. Most people aren’t willing to give as good as they take.” He claps his hand, a gesture of congratulation as he separates his soul from Arthur’s. He is, once more, just himself.[break][break]
“You’ll have a promising career among the rangers waiting for you in a few years, if you want it.” He assures her, though he doubts that’s something the young wild child would want.

“Roland, back Breloom up.” It’s a command he doesn’t need to give, but all the same, he gives it for Breloom and Montgomery’s sake. Roland is strange, as far as a lawman’s Pokemon goes. He seems like some robo knight out of a far flung tale. Painted up like a Gardevoir undergoing its mega evolution in honor of a fallen brother, the one-armed knight gets to work carving apart debris alongside Breloom. His psycho cuts are always precise, and his blade is sharp.[break][break]
“We’ll be there soon!” He assures those trapped on the other side. “Stay calm!”

“…blegh.” Virtue’s reward is a sword slid between his ribs. It’s a blow that should kill, incapacitate, maim. Yet still, he stands. Blood pours from his mouth as he holds her blade in place with magnetic force. Twisting around, Hana is met with a harsh backhand, strong enough to crack bones, combined with a sudden expulsion of the metal piercing his body.[break][break]
Ironic. The pain and the sudden movement might well have saved her life. Ascalon is conjured in his hand in a heartbeat while Zacian contends with the monster in the distance. Blinking, he sees Montgomery James approach through the fog.[break][break]
“Deputy.” He says, without any time to say more. Another weapon is conjured and tossed to the man. This one is the Pale Rider’s own weapon, an antiquated weapon weighed for Navy’s hands. Montgomery will manage just fine with the piece. For now, he turns back to Hana.[break][break]
“Wondered where you went. Alright, samurai girl. You wanna tussle, let’s-”[break][break]
And then, he appears. Shred appears in primordial sunlight. He appears in a hail of meteoric bombast, raining destruction down upon all of them. Ascalon pivots up, parrying a piece of orichalcum that would have shattered his head like a grapefruit.[break][break]
And at this new-crowned king’s side? A dragon. A warrior’s natural enemy.[break][break]
“Zacian! We need you!” The hero looks up, seeing the solar beam descending upon all of them at the winged king’s command. She howls, and the howl commands the stars.[break][break]
Silver light shoots up, day meeting night in a dazzling explosion of color. Solar beam collides with her moon blast, a promise of future battle should this king not declare his allegiance upon this battlefield.

Tiny understands tone well enough to smile and nuzzle against her cheek, flying away to let Phoebe do her work. Once the sample has been collected, Navy looks up at the bird. There is no finer example he’s found of how extraordinary this region and its circumstances are than this bird.[break][break]
“Alright, Tiny. You heard the lady. Light ‘er up.” Tiny’s wings beat like the beginnings of a hurricane. Anyone who pays attention to Pokemon battling knows the motion is used to gather air, usually to send out in a great wave at their opponents. Flames conjured by light spontaneously light up just under the feathers, cascading into the room. The flames incinerate the eggs. Ghoulish screams fill the corridors of the ship as Nihilego yet unborn die within the eggs, never to see their world or any other.[break][break]
All that accompanies the death throes of unborn things is silence. They are left alone, able to continue their journey down into the ship replete with an excellent sample. Curiously, music that would not be out of place on an ocean liner a century ago seems to echo through the hallways. It sends a shiver down Navy’s spine, something in the back of his mind taking to the sound here like nails to a chalkboard.[break][break]
“Careful. We don’t really know what’s in here besides Nihilego.”

But, as he listens, he thinks that there are some things that need to be said. They were words he needed to be told, once upon a time. In those long ago days he had been no one, nothing. Just a street kid keeping his head low while Ultra Beasts and gods loomed high overhead.[break][break]
