Now, since I’m gonna guess you don’t have a mega stone for your Gyarados, there’s one type that’s real good against water and flying.” And he just happens to have a Pokemon that would fit the bill nicely, though it is not, by conventional means, an electric-type.

Had they met in the long-ago time before Michael Navidson became the Pale Rider, he too would have found Duchess Emiliana Beaumont intimidating. She seems larger than life, grand. He is a thing that shall live liberated and die on his own terms. As the tide surges up to take him, with Aoki Hana’s blade coming for him and Montgomery James at his back, he feels a pang of envy.[break][break]
Envy gives way to fear and a reminder he himself has doled upon those blessed as he is blessed. An insidious voice reminds him that he is human as his hand reaches up and instead kicks down. illeana reyes’s powers do not discriminate, and he paws madly at air, wishing he could breathe.[break][break]
Shred, he thinks, we’ve made a big damn mess of things. You should be in Galar, rocking the circuit. Spikemuth needs a gym leader like you.[break][break]
He flails madly, unaware of how Zacian crumples to the ground as the tide rises around her. Tempest Quinn’s curse and her burns singe the hero of many battles. She breathes, searching for her sworn sword brother. All she sees is Genevieve Cromwell, who rushes to save the fallen warrior.[break][break]
When she grabs him, pulls him up, he mistakes her for a Primarina. Old legends say they rescued sailors, or tempted them into the water. Either way, with her by his side, he manages to kick up, heaving in a hefty lungful of air, and feels cold.[break][break]
Shred has found new prey. Some part of him with his wounded pride wants to rush after the newcrowned king and continue their fight. Some part of him surges with a fierce protective desire to interpose himself between Melody Miro and Zev Harcourt. The great love of his life is no damsel, or he would not love her so.[break][break]
No, there’s another role they have to play. Kyogre bears down on…on…on…[break][break]
Entei. He sees the Leviathan dive down. It pursues Entei, an unknown woman, and Noel Parker with a god’s fanaticism.[break][break]
“Genny.” He says through mouthfuls of water spilling from his lungs. “We’re saving those two.” Zacian, who has rushed to his side, looks towards the dyna tree. Her king is there, firing off his lances. He rides a Glastrier, launching lances across the field. Her eyes fall upon Kyogre and she understands the urgency of the matter.[break][break]
“And if the League don’t like us doing that, we’ll make a better League.”[break][break]
He climbs on Zacian. They are both weak. They face overwhelming odds, even with Groudon now on the field. Madness reigns in every direction, and he and this wolf hero and Genevieve are not but mortals wishing to make a difference.[break][break]

during battle, navy and his pokemon gain steady regenerative power and offensive power. if facing hopeless odds or serving a higher cause, the amount and rate of regeneration and power increases drastically. however, after the battle is over, they may require slumber for a period of time (up to teddie's discretion) to recover.

What mad times. Above them is the black knight. Rayquaza, hero of Navy’s childhood, lies fallen into slumber in the water. Groudon, who murdered his first friend, charges towards Kyogre with the same purpose as Navy. What times these are, what times howard slayte will chronicle in a far away future when this war has been fought.[break][break]
Zacian’s wounds seem to heal. The burns are not so bad. Zacian moves towards the great primal Leviathan, adjusting as best she can to the spatial anomalies forced upon them. Location: D2 -> D4 in pursuit of Kyogre. Navy is knocked into the water. Zacian is overwhelmed by Shred. Lowest moment ensues. Genny saves Navy. Pulled back up. Sees the crazy stuff going on all around them. Sees a civilian (Mitsuru Kagami) being pursued by Kyogre and resolves to protect them. Climbs onto Zacian, implores Genny to come with her. Genny can hop on if she wants. Avatar powers kick in. Adjusts for illeana's anomaly as best he can. Interposes himself between Kyogre & Tsuru/Entei/Noel, uses his Z-Move: Blade of Promised Victory to cover Entei's retreat towards the dyna tree. Shiv u can glacial lance me if u want smile.

Even if that chapter of his life slammed shut with bombast enough to ensure he will never hold the post again, Thomas makes herding a group of dangerous Pokemon look easy.[break][break]
“I can definitely see why Goode trusted you with Tapu Koko. That sure as shit went easier than it would have if we did this little rescue mission with half the ranger corps.” Some part of him wonders if he could do Ollie a solid and recruit the man, but he knows that Thomas is meant for another path.[break][break]
“Guess we can turn back soon, tag ‘em and leave cleanup to the rangers.” As he turns to do just that, he pauses and asks a question to fill the time they have. “Feels like…war’s gonna break out any day. You think everyone’ll be okay, Tom?” He thought to ask if Thomas would be okay, but decides at the last minute that the answer is obvious.

Coincidence is a powerful thing. Some would say that there is no such thing, that every path that every human and pokemon walks was determined long ago. When Navy turns the corner around his old gym, sipping on a milkshake just in time to hear a young lady speak Eris Halla’s name, it feels like it’s no coincidence. He looks at the girl, regards her menagerie of Pokemon, and smiles broadly.[break][break]
“Oh, you’re a friend of Eris’s?” He asks, though he moves on quickly. “Uh, not to intrude. This used to be my gym. The name’s Navy.” The sheriff looks her over, his eyes squinting, though not with any hostility. It’s like he’s looking at an old movie, or hearing a lyrics of a song whose name he has forgotten.[break][break]
“You seem familiar. We met before?”

“I’ll put it to you like this, Josh. If anyone says you shouldn’t be a champ, I’d tell ‘em to go find Kyle’s Entei and fight it – just the Entei, not even the whole team. Then I’d ask ‘em if they thought you earned your spurs or not.” Though Josh, like so many men in their mid-twenties, still has some soul searching to do before he settles into himself in his thirties, he still did a worthy deed when he bested Kyle and won Ho-oh’s respect.[break][break]
Just as Keldeo did by having a good spar with Zacian. Navy watches as his sword sister accepts the gesture and returns it, howling and seeming to smile. He knows Zaria and her heart well enough to know that she looks forward to the day when Keldeo and her will rush into battle side by side.[break][break]
“I’ll tell you all about Zacian if you want, but let’s go get somethin’ to eat for now.” Looking past Josh, he regards the sword wolf with a splitting grin. “If somebody wasn’t committed to their mysterious act, I’d invite ‘em along for steak.” Zacian’s retort is a distinct bark, a yell that sounds almost human. Traces of the hothead she was before remain.[break][break]
“Thought so. Come on, Josh.”

He looks to the carved figurine and remembers the day his daughter presented it to him, a perfect effigy of the statue sitting in Motostoke’s square. More than that, he remembers the note she left him, a note which somehow moved with him across worlds.[break][break]
“I remember, and I remember that we were friends.” She plied a respectable trade in those far-flung days. Ettie saved people and even helped him out of binds. She and her pack were heroes, just as so many others were heroes.[break][break]
“We can still be friends, if you want. Like with Josh and Julia.” Josh and Julia, two people that were, themselves, vitally important to him. Both had witnessed his own metamorphosis and, it seems, share a penchant for making friends.[break][break]
But none of this is about him. She is the contestant and she has emerged from the contest victorious. Navy opens his jacket, pulls out a badge, and offers it to Ettie.[break][break]
“This is for you, but there’s one more thing I’d like to show you.” Waving her and her packmates to follow him, he leads her to a quiet corner of the battlefield. There a section of the wall has been polished to be smooth. Into the rock is carved a number of sayings, advice for the victorious and defeated alike.[break][break]
“It’s a tradition of mine that I let people who beat me carve something into the wall. Advice for other challengers, you know. Take your time, read it over. There’s stuff there for you to carve whatever you want into the wall.” He nods down at the carving tools and gives her all the time she needs.

It feels like that promise, in some small part, will march this young lady to her grave, like promises of answers and victory so often do. All he can do, he supposes, is prepare her for what comes next, like he does so many other.[break][break]
“If that’s how you feel, don’t be a stranger.” Shuwen says his goodbyes to Sun with another pat on the head and a soft smile, a silent promise that they can play drums together whenever the young one wishes. The bear’s eyes shift to Navy, unsure of what to make of his words.[break][break]
“I used to be Dewford’s gym leader. I’m still the town’s sheriff, so come on down whenever you have a free day and we can train together. My daughter’s the gym leader now, and she’s about your age.” She could use a friend he thinks, but does not say that.[break][break]
“Just if you want, and if you have the time. Enjoy the rest of your day.” With a tip of his hat and a smile, he turns to the next group of students, all of them ready to ask questions much more boring than the ones she posed.

“I always am.” Says the sheriff, who has died once already in the course of this long war. Somewhere far away, in another world, a great hero senses the dampening of a bond between the Warrior and her. It is not severed, but it clues her into something frighteningly important: his soul is the soul of a black dragon. Unseen footsteps take off with frantic urgency.[break][break]
Beneath the sea, pink pulsating walls give way to empty dark matter. Far away, the lights of distant stars twinkle. This is a firmament seen as if from another world. They float through space, so much matter playing at being more.[break][break]
When he looks back at her, his eyes are half-lidded, dominant, cold. There is always warmth in the Warrior’s eyes, even when he fights. Warm blood flows through him. He observes Airi and the angels gathering behind her with a king’s countenance. His eyes trace Airi with interest, with lust, with respect. He screams as the dull, stupid, uncaring eye of a sleeping god passes him over.[break][break]
Magenta light bathes Navy and he screams the scream of a dragon. Pain washes over him and he feels reborn. Nihilego descend from all around, meaning to attack, meaning to destroy. Bean, he thinks, was a good call. It has some measure of natural strength against these Nihilego.[break][break]
His other half, the other body sharing this same soul, digs through flesh masquerading as earth. The black dragon rises from the ground below in a viscous storm of black blood and violent afterbirth. Fangs which should find no purchase against rocky flesh break clear through, spitting matter out and moving to the next one. There is one Pokemon that these Nihilego fear, and his name is Vortigern.[break][break]
Vortigern roars a challenge to the angels floating down to face them, even as they ride a tidal wave of poison into the chamber. Hunched over, he lumbers to meet them while Hattori mines for ore.[break][break]
All turn their attention upon the human, the Pokemon, and the twin-souled dragon. Poison shoots out in a Venoshock aimed to take them all at once in a wave of purple sludge.
