Navy closes his eyes, inhales. There’s fire in him that yearns to burn, to remind his councilman that blind loyalty is not loyalty at all. This is neither the time nor the place, not when Fernando is right. Not when Dewford needs him and the call to war will sound.[break][break]
“Of course, Councilman.” He says the words with uncharacteristic stiff formality. Navy seems to stand up straighter, turning his back on Fernando. “My mistake.”[break][break]
He puts a hand on Noel Parker’s shoulder. At last, his eyes open and he looks Noel in his.[break][break]
“We’ve gotta get back to Dewford. We’ve got our answer. Andrea, you take care of your town.”[break][break]
And so, he walks away. In his mind’s eye, Navy sees kyle lopez smiling at him. He remembers a conversation they had, long ago.[break][break]
You wanted your foot in the door so bad, well I got it in.[break][break]
“You did, Kyle.” He wants to say as he passes by splinters he kicked out of place. “And it’s about time I start using it.”

The thought runs a shiver down his spine in a way Cillian Quinn or Tempest Quinn never will. Bloody combat he can take. College courses? Having to apply his brain rather than his fists?[break][break]

At least a surge of excitement draws him back into the moment. There’ll be time for talk about the future when he’s done averting disaster in the present. Rushing forward, Navy sees precisely what he feared he would.[break][break]
Above them towers a Dynamaxed Frosslass. It looks like some wrothful thing out of legend. The Warrior reaches for his pokeballs like he’s drawing in the old west. From one ball comes Roland, his Iron Valiant. From the other comes Valkyrie. At the beast’s feet sits the final person they’re looking for.[break][break]
“Hattori, get ‘em out of here.”[break][break]
The Rider mounts his steed, drawing an old antiquated gun from her saddle. Roland pierces the ground and spreads an electric terrain throughout the field.[break][break]
“This thing’s gonna be shocked when a teacup kicks its ass.”

They come at him. They come at him from land and sea. As above, so below. His shadow bubbles, just as the heavens rain down their fury upon him. There’s no Julia Davis here to back him up, no kyle lopez or Eduardo Hisakawa to banter with amidst the squall.[break][break]
He’s alone, and he should be afraid. These men are the terrors of Rocket, perhaps the strongest of its defenders left in Sootopolis. They’re both coming for him, a hurricane and an inferno and tsunami all in one. Navy finds he’s not. Exhaling, he opens his eyes, and a sword appears in his hand.[break][break]
Ascalon strikes at the Eevee. Instincts beaten into him by his sword oath, make him step back, one hand on the sword and the other on a conjured bulwark. Though six pokeballs sit on his hip, he does not feel the need to throw any out. All of his Pokemon are already on the field.[break][break]
His shadow bubbles again, and Hattori rises to meet the thunder. He seems less a frog and more some roaring dragon. The shinobi’s protean forces his nature to shift into that of a dragon, his dragon hammer striking against the lightning quick bolt and making it sizzle across his fist. Looking down, the one-eyed frog knows that his fist should be in ruins, tatters. He watches with a clinical eye as it knits back together, like nothing ever happened.[break][break]
“That’s war for ya, Temp. ‘Sides, if I don’t try and kill you both, I’m gonna be the one who ends up in the gutter.”[break][break]
If I don’t bring everything I have to this, I die.[break][break]
Water will not avail him. Monsters circle, waiting for a moment of weakness. They will seize him, drag him to the depths. Far away, a spout of water barrels towards them all. There’s still plenty of time for their dance.[break][break]
Zacian, for her part, walks forward towards the Ninetails. Her eyes tilt momentarily towards the sea goddess above, but a challenge has been offered. She steps forward, the hero of many battles ready to play her part in this one.[break][break]
Her beautiful blue fur is singed by the will-o-wisp, her body cursed, but all the same, she charges. That the battle is impossible, that it is hard, matters little to her. Her body mends as well, the overwhelming odds empowering her to keep up the fight. Zacian’s sacred sword rushes for the Ninetails.[break][break]
In the skies above, two dragons fly towards the island’s guardian. Vortigern is on the left, Grendel on the right. The Dragonite is little more than a feint, raising its voice in dragon cheer that kindles the hearts of man and dragon alike. Vortigern rushes forward, meeting Lugia and her chosen one with a poison jab.

“I’ll cover you.” He tells her, looking back at Shred and giving him one final nod. He marches forward, and feels a strange vibration begin in his breast pocket.[break][break]
She grips her sword anew, and she rushes off across the sky loping upon faerie wings. She marches forward, ever forward. Her sworn brother rushes behind her, faster than he has any right to be. He knows what to do. Old instincts do not idly die.[break][break]
In his hand is his gun. Regice looms larger and larger with every step. Sunlight turns the night to day, a promise of the coming dawn, an assurance that they will live, that they will win.[break][break]
“O Ascalon.” The Rider says as he raises his gun, finding his target in his sight. Howard has a headstart for his mad suicide charge. It falls upon Navy to open the way forward, to turn sure death into a chance.[break][break]
The rest is simply faith. Faith in Howard, faith in himself.[break][break]
“Drink deep of slumbering gods’ power.”[break][break]
It surges impossibly bright, reflection and refraction both of the light. It catches along the blade, surging with the fury of old things that should have never existed.[break][break]
Her Rider’s anchor shot pierces Regice. His z-crystal thrums like a creature with its own heartbeat. What falls upon him is an impossible task, to open a pathway in the ice with only a human’s might.[break][break]
It does not seem so impossible when he pulls on the chain. Every atom in his body presses to the task, prying open Howard’s path. All they can do is buy him time.[break][break]
“Howard! You don’t have long.”[break][break]
Yet the time he buys, he knows in his heart, under the light of the sun, will prove enough. Ascalon seems more a hurricane of blue light, aimed right at the giant’s heart. With one blast, she can forestall devastation.[break][break]

Zacian harnesses the full power of her sword, Ascalon, and unleashes a blast of fae light. all foes in the path of the sword beam take critical damage.

Night turns to day turns to twilight as flashes of bright pink, orange, and blue converge upon the giant, blasting its core with all the might her blade can bring to bear. Navy turns away, still holding his chain, still shouting at Howard.[break][break]
“We’ll get you out! The rest is up to you!”

“Patroclus.” He smiles a sad smile. “Howard would say that’s a good name.” howard slayte helped him pick out all kinds of names for his Pokemon. “I think that’ll do. Don’t you think, Shuwen, Pat?”[break][break]
Shuwen, at least, nods. He opens his mouth, as if to test how the name tastes upon his tongue, but closes it again. Instead, content that his child is in good hands, the bear turns and returns to the task of rebuilding his homeland. Eddie’s answer and eager acceptance kindled within him a need to do his part. The great fighting bear lifts a whole steel beam by himself and bellows for a legion of Machop to get in place so that they might fix it in place.[break][break]
“You sure put a fire under his ass.” He laughs, and sits up himself. They’ve had just about enough of a break. There won’t be any epics written about the reconstruction of Dewford, but its people will thank them for the effort all the same.[break][break]
“Well, enough sitting around. Let’s get back to work. When you’re not too busy, look up noah faber. His Urshifu’d make a hell of a sparring partner for little Pat. Won’t coddle ‘im like Shuwen will.” He laughs at his own joke, which helps to distract him from that feeling he has, all over again, that he’s leading Eddie to an early grave.[break][break]
“You really are a good guy. Can’t say that enough.”

Too late, he realizes what Howard means to do. Too late, he sees him fly towards certain death. Navy opens his mouth to shout, and instead he hears Shred speak.[break][break]
“Shred, I-” Another moves to his friend’s side, a man he knows only by reputation. That the man is Grigori Sokolov at all is a guess, and not one he means to dwell on when so much is at stake. All the reinforced steel and concrete in the world won’t save the people in the bunkers from this. They’ll go to their craves thinking, until the very end, that everything will be alright.[break][break]
“I promise, man.” He kneels by Shred’s side. “I’ll get him.”[break][break]
The Warrior stands to keep his promise. He holds his blade, and turns to march and join Eduardo Hisakawa. A fresh voice stops him mid-stride.[break][break]
“…I am sorry that no one in the dream gave you a name, Ser.” Zacian rests Ascalon in the sand, affording her the luxury of speech. “Though I doubt you remember, I do. I remember much. For your part of the tale, I am grateful. We both count Howard as a friend, and so I would ask you for one more favor…”[break][break]
Her eyes turn up towards Howard, rushing into the blizzard. The Warrior’s squire took his master’s lesson to heart. Though his task is impossible, he still makes the attempt.[break][break]
“Inside of you burns your very own sun, a power that is yours and yours alone. Spread thy light, and I will return Howard to you.”

His eyes shoot to the glowing glyphs upon the giant’s shoulder. What follows, he thinks, is madness, but it’s the only thing he can do.[break][break]
He jumps, and he runs. He’s running before he can truly consider what he’s doing. He runs across fresh growing grass, right up to the giant’s heels. A weapon of some unknown hero is projected into his hand, propelled forward. It wedges into the giant’s heel. The sheriff jumps, and his spurs bind him to the metal along the flat of the blade.[break][break]
A second jump places him higher up. He climbs with the blades, holding on for dear life as the Lost fights his fellows. Turning his eyes up to the sky, he sees Ralsei ready an arrow. Just a little higher now…[break][break]

The cynic in him thinks that the word hero is applied after the fact. If Rocket wins, Josh and Navy both will be framed as symptoms of a bloated system. All their hopes, their dreams of a peaceful world, will be reframed to suit another’s narrative. If they win, they’ll be heroes. All the same, he appreciates Josh’s answer.[break][break]
“I was in the sword.” Some part of him swears he’s told this to Josh, but everyone’s recollections of Galar are so flimsy that he does not begrudge the younger man. “And I’ve made a promise to the one whose sword was shattered. Ahead stands the city where his brother died. Many more will die for this land today. Navy wonders how many funerals the League is going to fund and mourns the many sons and daughters who won’t make it home. He stands upon a solitary rock. Per his request, the rest of the League’s military forces have given him a wide berth.[break][break]
Monsters are coming out from the city. They come to greet the League who would take from them their greatest triumph. Behind him, he hears the approach of a stray god. It heads right for the walls, ready to shatter them whole.[break][break]
He does not like this plan. He does not like most of the plans the League concocts. Navy’s eyes cast down from the dark clouds to the wolf at his side. Zacian stands nine feet tall at the shoulder, dwarfing Navy and all other humans she runs across. Her eyes are focused on the green barrier. The sword maiden’s nostrils flare as she takes in a familiar scent. A low growl tells him all he needs to know.[break][break]
“We’ve got to have faith this’ll all work out.” Closing his eyes, Navy sees in the eye of his mind a bow. Its arrow is a bloodseeker, a thirsting thing which relentlessly seeks out the heart of its foes. It twists into shape. His magnetism and the malevolent aura will take care of the rest.[break][break]
They’re coming. Tempest Quinn and Cillian Quinn made him feel helpless, long ago beneath granite cave. He’s done feeling helpless. Never again. Not while he has his Pokemon, not while he has his sword.[break][break]
He steels himself, tells himself that this will work out. His Pokemon League isn’t perfect, but it’s worth fighting for. He looses the arrow and watches it fly. It rushes straight for Lugia’s heart. Let her and her rider come to him, let Tempest come as well. Better him than anyone else.[break][break]
Zacian howls, signaling that the battle is joined.

Trading a gacha Abomasnow, appletun, and Lucario to ameena abadi + Dusknoir and Kingambit to robin coello (all from Navy) in exchange for ameena abadi's armarouge + honedge, robin coello's @rillaboom, and @haoyu's Absol, which are going to Hitoshi Inoue.

Navy is also getting a Skarmory from robin coello.
