“A key?” The sheriff asks, but he has no time to question further. Froslass’s eyes turn down upon them. The frozen yokai opens her mouth, and billows out a blizzard. Eternatus’s infernal power ensures it is no mere blizzard. Rather, it spreads across the whole wide cavern. Hail falls as it turns into a max hailstorm. Every chunk seems to be the size of a basketball.[break][break]
Both the Rider and their supermassive foe seem to disappear amidst the brewing snowstorm. Only an occasional spark of electricity within the terrain serves as a reminder of the ghost, which seems to be readying its next attack.[break][break]
Valkyrie’s phantom force makes her disappear, Rider and all. They appear somewhere in the blizzard. Gunshots ring out. One, and another, and another. Anchor shots fly up to bind the supermassive yokai. Where once he had to aim, now the Rider guides the steel with his spirit. They encase the giant, buying Robin and Roland time.[break][break]
“Roland!” He cries from the snow. “Keep the snow off them!”[break][break]
The machine nods, and raises his blade. His pink galaxy blade comes alive with fae energy. It begins in his core, snaking up his arm, and ending on the tip of his blade. A massive moonblast of power shoots off through the dark, right towards the dynamaxed Froslass. It splits the storm, leaving her exposed and screaming her protest. She struggles against her bindings, which will only hold her for a time.[break][break]
“Now!” He shouts to Robin, trusting her to make the most of this moment.

This is a resting place for heroes, and it is they that offer the latest to bear that title succor.[break][break]
Navy turns as he senses another for the first time. Most nights he spends wandering Dewford like a phantom. Zacian called him here tonight, but not just Zacian. Two more appear, a younger brother and his senior Elite Four.[break][break]
Zacian bows her head in respect to Greyson. The Elite trainer reminds her of another, one who helped hone her blade long ago. Though he is not her sword brother, she holds him in esteem so high that the difference is hard to discern.[break][break]
“Connors.” Navy says, sitting on pedestal worn down to be chest height by time and condensation. Here, he looks older, a greybeard with tired eyes. In his hands he holds Ascalon, sword of promised victory. He polishes it quietly, knowing that soon enough the world will have need of the blade. “It’s good to see you. I see your shield brother summoned you here as well.”[break][break]
Zacian walks up to Zamazenta, her own Ascalon strapped across her back, and stands beside her brother. She turns to regard the two humans. It’s a rare sight, to see the two heroes brought together, and it warms the Rider’s heart.

How will my story end? He questions.[break][break]
Navy imagines his life as a book. What a story that book would tell, written in black and white. Details would be missing, as they always are, emotion divorced from the events by time’s withering hand.[break][break]
Michael Navidson the Warrior, called Navy at his own insistence. Murdered his parents. Sat on the sidelines until the penultimate hour. Took up the sword, joined the fight. Shown the way by and far too many others.[break][break]
That is not an ending. His story’s ending is his own to write, a privilege given to precious few.[break][break]
“Thought it was gonna end with my death.” He admits. “Zacian made me promise that I’d work for a different ending. Guess if I had to pick…” Navy closes his eyes, and describes the world he sees. “…it’d end with me helpin’ rebuild, once the war’s over. Maybe I’ll go into civil engineering, or architecture. War’s awful. It destroys stuff. Wouldn’t be too bad to spend the time I have left after all’s said and done buildin’ something for my kids to enjoy.”

“Quick! Before the mist reforms! Let’s get the hell outta here!” Lizzy shifts gears, her tail tightening into the shape of a wheel. It burns rubber across the ground, flying out of the chamber towards home, freedom, and woe. She flies so fast that ore flies from his saddlebag.[break][break]
Only later will Navy notice the error, and only later will he realize that the Nihilego left them unmolested the whole ride back. Only later will he recognize these two facts are interwoven, and by doing so save many League officers grief on their own trips to this grand core. Navy whoops in celebration, happy to finally be free, racing back to a world of logic and common sense.[break][break]

Smaug does not know how he knows the dance. He simply exists with the knowledge baked into his very psyche. When he first danced the ancestral dance of all dragonkind upon a resurfaced mirage island, it did so out of instinct. He danced because his blood called for him to dance, because his spirit needed to be honed to deadly purpose.[break][break]
He floats upon the stage, looking at his fellow dancers. Most of them are creatures he would consider prey. They are strange creatures with their own dances. So, he spreads his great wings. It is from these feathered red wings that he has been given his scientific name: Roaring Moon. What beauty they have when he floats above his fellow dancers, circling above them like he is in truth the moon itself, come down to grace them with his presence.[break][break]
His is a primal moon, a killing moon, turned towards gentler purpose. He floats upon the wind before a crowd of bedazzled humans. Eyes tell a tale for those close: confident knowledge that he could devour all those watching this dance. The dragon maintains its dignity with this knowledge: they exist because I allow it. That is a dragon’s promise, and so he dances upon his stage.[break][break]
All there is to life is the dance. To opt out is to opt out of truly living life, but to walk on the sidelines. All there is in the world is the dance, and he graces his seven partners with a red dragon moon for their synchronized performance below. The moon blesses the rain, blesses the petals, and serves as eternal reminder that the sun will come again.

Again, the ground rumbles. Max Lightning blasts from the Heart Mother and fries the Blasttoise. Its barrier looks like it is tearing at the seams. Lucia recognizes who he is as Blastoise opens fire on Nihilego.[break][break]
“I used to run this place, you know. Tsubaki’s my kid. Adopted her just before she turned eighteen.” Turning away from the screen, he leaves Tsubaki to her battling. It’s good entertainment, but he’s not here to be entertained. “I’m just here ‘cause I felt like checking in on the place. You here takin’ notes before your own challenge?”[break][break]

A finger goes for the neck. Time passes, milliseconds that feel like eternities, until he feels a pulse just beneath the skin.[break][break]
“He’s alive!” Navy shouts to his side and the Rockets alike. asked him to bring Howard back to him, and there’s only one way he can do that. He looks to the liberator.[break][break]
“Isaac! If you want him to face his mistakes, he’s gonna need your help.” He carries the body to Isaac, Howard’s only hope. Regice, with its final beam fired away from the town, no longer seems a concern. Looking past Isaac at the Rockets, he wonders if they feel the same sense of where do we go from here that he does.[break][break]
“Shred!” Navy shouts to the beast. “Isaac’s gonna help Howard. Once he does, you take him and your people and get out of here.” Historians will question the decision, but he has no desire to bury Tsubaki, Eddie, or even the Rockets. This isn’t where any of them are supposed to die.
