“Yeah. So, no, no name. I think he’s a boy, but Arceus knows I ain’t no Pokemon biologist.” Were it not for Shuwen’s deep roar and the fact that his belly never seemed swollen with child or egg, Navy would have no proof his own partner was a male.[break][break]
“Whatever name you come up with, I’m sure it’ll be good.” Shuwen places a gentle hand on his child’s shoulder. The bear closes his eyes, and remembers something that Navy told Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki when they were trapped in another world. All children leave home someday. It’s part of growing up.[break][break]
Even still, it is hard, especially for one such as he, who has no recollection of life before a desperate battle called him forward into a strange realm between dimensions. It is devastation rendered with the beauty of a landscape portrait. Blue-gold electricity plays against the fury of a mountain crashing upon the birds. Man and dragon see the precise moment when, at last, they understand they are fighting a losing battle. The wiser of the birds cut and flee before the bolt even lands. Most are caught in the blast, and fall limply to the sand.[break][break]
They’ll live. Pokemon are sturdy. It takes more than that to kill them. Even still, they’ll need to be tagged, noted, and released back into the wild by Dewford’s ranger station. It all begins to sound like something he dreads: paperwork. In his mind’s eye, paxton concordas smiles. It’s a pleasant smile, as Paxton is a pleasant looking man, but it makes his adam’s apple rise and fall all the same. He’s seen what Paxton can do with a sniper rifle, and how wroth that man can get when forms aren’t filled out properly.[break][break]
“Good job, Airi.” His wince at the word is for far more practical reasons. Vortigern’s eyes come alive with hunger at the sight of the fallen birds. His own hunger flares. He feels his own indignation when the black dragon’s human half insists it would not be proper to eat them. Vortigern relaxes in ways he never would have before their souls were bound together with the sygna suit.[break][break]
“They really do underestimate the cute ones. Arceus, there’s a reason you tell kids about type match-ups in trainer school.” A school he could never afford to go to, though he may as well have went, given how much his little brother told him when he ran home from his classes. “Alright, we’ve got a lot of work to do, and our l’il hatchlings made it just fine.”[break][break]
“What kinda food d’you like? After we get these Wingull tagged and carted off to a pokemon center, I’ll treat you. Least I can do for a job well done.”

Excited chicks look up and cheer at Bladestorm as he swoops. Though he is not their father, it still brings singular delight to them, to see an apex of their kind in flight. They spread their wings and try to urge him over. Navy speaks not a word of the language of Pokemon, an intricate mixture of gesture and body language, but he thinks he gets the message.[break][break]

Navy’s eyes drift from the Pyroar ferrying his people up to the mountains. Mist sits across their peeks. It settled there just after Regice left and it hasn’t left since. Zacian rests somewhere in those mountains, a silent protector.[break][break]
“She fought to protect Galar, a long long time ago. It damn near killed her brother and her both.”[break][break]
A hint of a younger man’s mischief spouts on his face, opposite the older man’s melancholy. It balances his worry and the crow’s feet it planted on his face with a smile.[break][break]
“But she might say, if you want to go into semantics, that you’d be Johto’s first knight, Josh.”
