SOOTOPOLIS LOOMS BEHIND THEM, encased in a veil of green energy erected for wartime by their CALYREX. It glows brighter than usual in spite of the grey skies. The heavy rainfall. Cillian Quinn and Tempest Quinn, wishing to protect the city they call home clash with Navy, a man desperate to protect his people.[break][break]

The League seeks to take advantage of Kyogre's approach. The Leviathan does not show any signs of stopping. Impact is imminent. As the timer ticks, what will everyone do?

Ahead stands the city where his brother died. Many more will die for this land today. Navy wonders how many funerals the League is going to fund and mourns the many sons and daughters who won’t make it home. He stands upon a solitary rock. Per his request, the rest of the League’s military forces have given him a wide berth.[break][break]
Monsters are coming out from the city. They come to greet the League who would take from them their greatest triumph. Behind him, he hears the approach of a stray god. It heads right for the walls, ready to shatter them whole.[break][break]
He does not like this plan. He does not like most of the plans the League concocts. Navy’s eyes cast down from the dark clouds to the wolf at his side. Zacian stands nine feet tall at the shoulder, dwarfing Navy and all other humans she runs across. Her eyes are focused on the green barrier. The sword maiden’s nostrils flare as she takes in a familiar scent. A low growl tells him all he needs to know.[break][break]
“We’ve got to have faith this’ll all work out.” Closing his eyes, Navy sees in the eye of his mind a bow. Its arrow is a bloodseeker, a thirsting thing which relentlessly seeks out the heart of its foes. It twists into shape. His magnetism and the malevolent aura will take care of the rest.[break][break]
They’re coming. Tempest Quinn and Cillian Quinn made him feel helpless, long ago beneath granite cave. He’s done feeling helpless. Never again. Not while he has his Pokemon, not while he has his sword.[break][break]
He steels himself, tells himself that this will work out. His Pokemon League isn’t perfect, but it’s worth fighting for. He looses the arrow and watches it fly. It rushes straight for Lugia’s heart. Let her and her rider come to him, let Tempest come as well. Better him than anyone else.[break][break]
Zacian howls, signaling that the battle is joined.

Angry waves crash against the white rock. In the distance, a League officer and Rocket grunt fall into the water. They, too, crash against the white rock. A fine red smear, washed off quickly, all that is left.[break][break]

Tempest grips Marina tight as he hides under the dark waves. It is dead and empty here. Sea life has been long scared off by the churning water and dark skies. Kyogre rages in the distance, shrieks of whale song occasionally echoing in ear splitting frequency.[break][break]

He wonders if declan walsh is glad at how many stayed behind to protect their home. If the other man would be disappointed. Walsh was so hard to read. It always made him feel on edge, walking on eggshells; as if the older man was always trying to pick a fight for reasons Tempest did not understand. He wondered if Walsh was the type to cut off his nose to spite his face.[break][break]

An arrow shines though the air. Pulling upwards, Tempest surfaces. He is only not dragged back under thanks to experience and his pokemon.[break][break]

The clawed glows of his Sygna Suit grasp at the hard earth. Tempest drags himself from the water like a mermaid hunting for blood.[break][break]

"You just shoot that at my husband, Navy?"[break][break]

Tempest's grin cracks over his face, feral, from where he stands dripping and wet on the other side of the rock. A tap, his Sygna Suit flaring to life. A few pokemon spill into the water, joining the circling shark in the deep. At his side stands an Eevee and a Ninetails. They both bare fangs; the Ninetails with more regality than the Eevee.[break][break]

A click of the tongue. The Eevee yips before charging forward, vanishing into a shadowed smudge. The Ninetails raises all of her purpled tails like a crown. Her body calls the few rays of sunlight to her presence. She lurks towards Zacian with sickly, pale lavender orbs of fire on the tips of her tail. An eerie aura exudes for the pokemon, ghostly and strange as she launches her specters at Zacian.

🔗 temp was in DA WATER. climbs onto the rock. activates sygna. all his pokemon are out, but all the water types are circling in the water. eevee uses shadow sneak to try and drip into the shadows and attack navy. ninetails uses will o wisp on zacian. s ninetails ability will make the will o wisp home in as well as cause a curse (damaging). it will also give the benefits of curse (boost) to ninetails. ninetails also has drought active. that was a fucking lot this ninetails has some wild ass abilities.

War dawns, and Cillian's veins burn with the fires of Kanto. Yet as the League take advantage of Kyogre's rampage, the thoughts of the underboss are with the city. His city. Their city.[break][break]

Lugia's wings cut a path through torrential downpour, Cillian's inactive SYGNA SUIT serving only to protect him from the rain with its neoprene material. Legend and Avatar make their way toward Kyogre's colossal silhouette, lording the skies while Tempest Quinn slips through the ocean below.[break][break]

This Bay is her Sea, and the Guardian will not give it up easily.[break][break]

A HOWL echoes in the air. There is something familiar about it, something Cillian feels must be important. He doesn't get time to parse through the murk of his mind.[break][break]

Lugia banks hard to avoid the arrow aimed at Cillian's heart. She is graceful in the air, quickened by the MIASMA that shrouds them, yet still it is not enough. The arrow curves toward its target.[break][break]

It lodges square in a mass of shadow that separates from the Harbinger's form, his DARK AURA deflecting what would have been a lethal blow. The arrow only grazes him, instead, but Cillian still grunts from an impact that feels like being kicked in the chest. Umbral claws curl around its shaft and tear it loose, violet eyes scanning the battlefield for the culprit.[break][break]

He sees Zacian before he sees Navy at her side.[break][break]

HATRED burns hot in his blood, a well-established GRUDGE extending its roots deep within his soul.[break][break]

Lugia whirls again, attuned enough to Cillian's intentions by this point to understand a shift in focus. Whether or not Navidson was her Avatar, Zacian's hostile presence alongside the Pale Rider could not be ignored.[break][break]

The storm is their herald, the THUNDER their war drums. A flash of lightning illuminates their silhouette against stormclouds before a bolt strikes down toward Navy.[break][break]

They come at him. They come at him from land and sea. As above, so below. His shadow bubbles, just as the heavens rain down their fury upon him. There’s no Julia Davis here to back him up, no kyle lopez or Eduardo Hisakawa to banter with amidst the squall.[break][break]
He’s alone, and he should be afraid. These men are the terrors of Rocket, perhaps the strongest of its defenders left in Sootopolis. They’re both coming for him, a hurricane and an inferno and tsunami all in one. Navy finds he’s not. Exhaling, he opens his eyes, and a sword appears in his hand.[break][break]
Ascalon strikes at the Eevee. Instincts beaten into him by his sword oath, make him step back, one hand on the sword and the other on a conjured bulwark. Though six pokeballs sit on his hip, he does not feel the need to throw any out. All of his Pokemon are already on the field.[break][break]
His shadow bubbles again, and Hattori rises to meet the thunder. He seems less a frog and more some roaring dragon. The shinobi’s protean forces his nature to shift into that of a dragon, his dragon hammer striking against the lightning quick bolt and making it sizzle across his fist. Looking down, the one-eyed frog knows that his fist should be in ruins, tatters. He watches with a clinical eye as it knits back together, like nothing ever happened.[break][break]
“That’s war for ya, Temp. ‘Sides, if I don’t try and kill you both, I’m gonna be the one who ends up in the gutter.”[break][break]
If I don’t bring everything I have to this, I die.[break][break]
Water will not avail him. Monsters circle, waiting for a moment of weakness. They will seize him, drag him to the depths. Far away, a spout of water barrels towards them all. There’s still plenty of time for their dance.[break][break]
Zacian, for her part, walks forward towards the Ninetails. Her eyes tilt momentarily towards the sea goddess above, but a challenge has been offered. She steps forward, the hero of many battles ready to play her part in this one.[break][break]
Her beautiful blue fur is singed by the will-o-wisp, her body cursed, but all the same, she charges. That the battle is impossible, that it is hard, matters little to her. Her body mends as well, the overwhelming odds empowering her to keep up the fight. Zacian’s sacred sword rushes for the Ninetails.[break][break]
In the skies above, two dragons fly towards the island’s guardian. Vortigern is on the left, Grendel on the right. The Dragonite is little more than a feint, raising its voice in dragon cheer that kindles the hearts of man and dragon alike. Vortigern rushes forward, meeting Lugia and her chosen one with a poison jab.

The blade slices across the Eevee's flesh. If Hati had been as normal as her kin, it would have been a terrible wound. Instead there is only a dull 'pop!' as energy evaporates around her, the shield from her Disguise exploding in a small shower of harmless sparks. With this small advantage she keeps her ground, trying to dip under Navy's blade to sink sharp fangs into the meat of his leg. Ice burns between her teeth, a Frost Breath trying to blow on fragile human body.[break][break]

One canine comes at another. Marian is too slow by her own heavy curse to possibly dodge the fast attack. She only seems to flicker as it strikes; a line of blood on cut cheek. Her form flickers in the odd light from the combination of the rain and her Drought. She snarls, baring teeth, leveraging her own curse to squeeze the curse placed on the blue canine. Her Cursed Body a secondary infection.[break][break]

A sharp whistle from Tempest has her flick her ears back awards. Taking a few steps towards the canine from where she had been knocked back, her tails flare behind her once again. An eerie, purple flame erupts and twists from her body, heightened further by the small sunlight. Her Heat Wave meant to try and push the other canine back. Her own curse grew.[break][break]

Tempest bares his teeth in anger at Navy actually hurting Cillian Quinn. Yet, his eyes are glued to the dog. It was familiar. But. Tempest had not been in that dream. Only the fleeting familiarity is there. It is enough, though, to make his eyes narrow before they flick back over to the Pale Rider.[break][break]

"I thought you had sense, Navidson! That taste of..." Temp glances at Zacian again quickly. "dog pussy too tempting?"[break][break]

How sad it was to see another poisoned by the well of Infinity Energy.[break][break]

Tempest throws up his hands in a shrug, circling around the spectacle of the two canines battling. He doesn't turn his back to them but keeps his eyes on Navy alone. His Sygna Suit pulses. A shimmering, green barrier shines faintly in the right lighting. Like the predators he raised, he stalks closer to the other man.[break][break]

"You better struggle when I choke you out. It won't be worth killing you, otherwise." Tempest smiles, all teeth. If anyone was 'guttering' Navy, it would be him.

🔗 hati's DISGUISE pops and she follows through on trying to attack NAVY. she tries to bite down and use a close range FROST BREATH on him. marian takes the hit from zacian and is knocked back, but her ghostly form makes it very slightly less effective. her CURSED BODY rubs off on zacian, as well as the general CURSE on them both. she uses a ghost-fueled HEAT WAVE to try and push zacian away. temp heckles navy and keeps a SPIKY SHIELD around himself from his sygna suit. he tries to circle around the fighting dogs to approach navy himself.

"Temper that ego of yours, Navidson!" Where once a storm such as this would've snatched Cillian's words, an eldritch echo ensures that he's heard even over the howling wind. "We weren't here for you."[break][break]

No. Navy had started this fight. But Cillian would finish it.[break][break]

Dragons approach the Guardian of the Seas, but she is without fear of them. A SPRINGTIDE STORM brews beneath her beating wings, the glittering fey wind a deadly tempest to draconic kind. The POISON JAB might sink deep, but her IMMUNITY to being poisoned allows her to shake it off without much trouble.[break][break]

Navy has come a long way from the man they'd once easily overwhelmed. Even one-on-one, Navy had struggled against the Harbinger, nearly losing the same brave frog that intercepts Lugia's lightning bolt. The strength of the Sherriff's aura, his resilience to stand tall against the greatest of threats, was something even an enemy could admire.[break][break]

Cillian watches Hattori's flesh knit together where it should've disintegrated. They were not up against the same man they'd fought before.[break][break]

I'm not the same, either.[break][break]

Nightmares are made manifest as Cillian's DARK AURA changes him into something eldritch and inhuman, many-limbed and many-eyed and darker-than-night. Dread, personified, as his SHADOW self inspires PANIC.[break][break]

Even if Zacian would dismiss that Navy as the blackguard he would be, they would bloody the League good; Them, and everyone else on their side.[break][break]
But that isn’t their world. That isn’t how things shook out. Instead, he chose to be better. As he turns to face Temp, he sees what’s coming through the water behind Temp. His heart sinks, mouth slack at the sight.[break][break]
There WERE civilians still.[break][break]
He curses all the firebrands who would see Rocket dead, no matter the cost. The people on the boat are not warriors. Most of them don’t even seem to have Pokemon. People line the decks of this boat, shouting frantic words at one another.[break][break]
They do not see what’s coming. Not until it’s too late.[break][break]
Arceus, I’m stupid.[break][break]
He thinks as he faces the sea. Temp’s Eevee bites into his legs. Both his weapons are forgotten. He needs his hands for another task.[break][break]
“Hattori. Zacian.” She sees the problem at once. Kyogre is coming. The great god of the sea barrels right towards that boat. They will not be able to pull away in time. Each of them has a role to play. He must do what he can do, Zacian must do what only she can.[break][break]
Despite the curses, despite the burns, she cuts a path across the water. Her behemoth blade is revealed in full. Though Kyogre is not dynamaxed, it is more than big enough to be considered a giant. Ascalon clashes against the god, slowing it, but not stopping it. She strikes again, and is burned again.[break][break]
He wonders what it must look like, to them. He simply threw away his wants, cast off his ally. As he turns, trying desperately to feel the metal amidst the water, he can't even spare breath to speak.

The fight continues.[break][break]

Until it doesn't.[break][break]

The large dog departs, bounding over the waves. Marian snaps at her but misses, just as surprised by being abandoned. Tempest only gives Navy a confused look before daring to glance over his shoulder.[break][break]

His heart sinks instantly, a steady panic rising.[break][break]

Kyogre is coming. Either him or Cillian Quinn need to say the code word. But instead all he can see is the boat, in the pathway of the beast. It wasn't supposed to be here! Why was it here?[break][break]

There is a split moment where he is torn. Rocket wants him to secure Navy. Perhaps even kill him. Without the dog, he is surely weakened. He and Cillian would be able to overpower him; Navy was still strong, it would not be easy, but they could.[break][break]

But that boat is full of people who relied on Rocket. They weren't within the organization itself, but they chose to fly under Rocket's banner rather than the League's. They had promised them safety when they evacuated.[break][break]

That feeling only wavers in his chest for a moment before he tightens his grip.[break][break]

"Save the boat!" Tempest calls, high and loud over the whipping winds. He only pauses to call back his two foxes, the confused pokemon vanishing in flashes of blue light. He glances back at his husband with determination and confidence in his order. His eyes flick to Navy. "I have an idea, but I need the two of you to slow Kyogre down!"[break][break]

With that, he dives into the water. He doesn't wait on either of them to respond, trusting the both of them in this moment. Even if Navy was his enemy, he was still cut from the same cloth that Tempest was. Tempest also knew that his husband wouldn't let him down.[break][break]

Grasping onto Marina's fin, Tempest choked down a mouthful of sea water as he crammed his rebreather into his mouth.[break][break]

The Sharpedo gave out a loud cry as she built up speed, then shot out to bounce along the waves like a bullet. The three shapes of Tempest's other water types followed in the water; one of them would probably give Navy a ride if he required it.

"How selfish," Cillian sneers.[break][break]

Rocket are selfish, too; Cillian would make no claim otherwise. And they are bullies, just as Navidson claims. So when a titan approaches, it would not be surprising to see two of Rocket's fiercest fighters take advantage of an enemy's moment of weakness.[break][break]

Cillian's gaze, too, snaps to where the legend runs.[break][break]

Kyogre.[break][break]

His first thought, of course, is of Rocket.[break][break]

"Fuck," he breathes, and taps his earpiece to broadcast. His voice echoes eerily over Rocket's communication channels. "This is the Harbinger. The Sealeo is vast. Repeat: The Sealeo is vast. Harbinger, out."[break][break]

He taps the earpiece again, just as Temp calls out to save the boat. Cillian hadn't noticed it, at first, so focused was he on the encroaching leviathan. He spots it now, a speck among the waves, tossed violently in the tide brought on by the furious legend's rampage.[break][break]

He doesn't hesitate. Not even for a moment. Lugia swivels in the sky, sun flashing on her bone-white spines as she turns to face a greater threat. This would be no easy feat.[break][break]

"Understood."[break][break]

Dark wings cast shadow over another vessel as paxton concordas and Calliope Alvara clash aboard. Shadows melt from Cillian's flesh as his focus shifts, but his powers remain: proximity affords the Rocket agent's SHADOW SERPERIOR a boost in strength.[break][break]

When they're as close to Kyogre as they can safely get, Cillian pitches a pokeball toward the enraged whale. His Eelektross latches on with a SHADOW LEECH as Lugia's ICY WINDS form glacial plates across the bay, slowing Kyogre momentarily. It shatters one apart with an ORIGIN PULSE, proving that such measures would not last long. Temp would have to work fast.[break][break]

But Cillian and Navy have worked together to combat Kyogre before.[break][break]

A javelin of black lightning forms in Cillian's gloved grip. "Can Hattori still do that neat little trick?" If given the go ahead, Cillian would launch it toward the frog with all his might, the SHADOW BOLT crackling with dark energy.[break][break]

A barrage of rocks moved by ANCIENT POWERS narrowly miss Avatar and patron, Cillian's world spinning as Lugia rolls out of the way. He whoops gleefully at the rush of adrenaline; there was nothing so exhilarating as defying death.[break][break]

There will come a day when he is questioned for this. Freya will breathe her fire down upon him. Penny will scorch him with ruinous intent. Fernando will say three words that carry the weight of three thousand. Let that day come. Hoenn is its people, and Sootopolis is just as much a Hoenn city as anywhere else. Their people bleed the same red blood.[break][break]
He jumps on Milotic’s back and races across the waves. It is smooth, slick in the water. Navy understands why Josh Devlin would keep one of these as a racing animal. Riding atop this beautiful beast, he almost forgets he’s in a war zone for a split second.[break][break]
Vortigern and Grendel both fly low, both haggard from the storm they weathered above. Grendel is by far more comfortable with the sea, so Navy makes a decision that he will come to regret in time. There is no good choice here, only a choice. He jumps upon the gentle sea dragon’s back, and he climbs, just in time to hear Cillian ask his question.[break][break]
“Kyogre’s gotta hit him too, and he seems real hellbent on barreling forward. Hattori, it’s your-”[break][break]
Hattori does not need to be asked. He has no wings, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at him. He falls towards the sea and towards an angry god. He falls without fear, for he is sure that his Lord is with him.[break][break]
Kyogre strikes him and hits a mere log, blasting it out of the way and into the path of a shadow bolt. Navy conjures a dozen swords and sends them flying for the log. Too late he sees flashes of another Hattori, turned into a pincushion, dying for him. Grendel opens up with extreme speed to smash upon the log…[break][break]
…and Hattori reappears. He exudes so much raw z-energy that it damn near spills out of him. His one eye is focused on the sea god. His hand SLAMS forward.[break][break]
For a few precious seconds, Kyogre seems to stand still. Navy searches for Tempest Quinn, wondering if that was enough time.

Navy and Cillian Quinn stall the mad titan. With Navy safely on his own pokemon's back, Tiamat turns to join her trainer and fellow pokemon. They can not keep up with Marina- the Sharpedo barrels right for the boat. There is a quick, shrill beep that is almost lost over the rushing waves. Tempest's Sygna Suit powering off as he preps for this plan.[break][break]

This will either end very well or really fucking badly.[break][break]

When Marina crunches down into the back of the boat, the whole vessel rocks. Tempest himself is almost flung off into the water. Marina is a bit off center- she can't just slam herself into the propeller. She stays latched, though, rows and rows of teeth sinking into steel.[break][break]

"Just like the race!" Tempest calls. People scream above him. Looking up, he tries to give them his best, reassuring smile. It's strained.[break][break]

Z-Move energy pulses as Marina works herself to push them all forward. When Tempest had raced in Pacifilog, it had taught him to use this move as a speed boost and not just an attack. The League, the fools, couldn't see the practicality in something like Josh Devlin's racing and how it could be used outside of that.[break][break]

Water spluttered and started to gather, whipping into a water spout behind them. Tempest dug in tight as the Z-Move powered up, not afraid by the rough skin of his own pokemon. He'd need all the grip he could get for this.[break][break]

All at once, the water spout slammed into the back of Marina as she performed a Sharknado. The boat groaned in the water but started to move. Then, slowly, to pick up speed.[break][break]

Then it started to tilt.[break][break]

"Fuck! Stabilize it!"[break][break]

This order was followed by a loud THUMP as Durandal launched herself from the water. The Shadow Kabutops stayed on the side of the boat, clinging with scythes, to help re-balace with her weight. From below, Tiamat stretched out her snake-like body to push from the side it was tipping. Even Slushie, while not as large, tried to rebalanced with a Muddy Water.[break][break]

The boat was still unbalanced, but did not tip any longer.[break][break]

Speed picked up further and further.[break][break]

But Kyogre was already drawing near.

🔗 temp has marina slam into/bite the boat. sygna suit deactivates and he has her use her z-move. inspired by josh's past race, he has her use it to try and pick up speed as well as for power to push the boat. it works but starts to unbalance the boat. durandal, slushie, and tiamat try and help balance the boat again to keep it from tipping as they push.

Expectation falls heavily upon the small, brave frog, and Hattori does not disappoint.[break][break]

The SHADOW BOLT is hurled toward him with the confidence that it will do no harm, crackling with corrupt energy that dissipates across a log now scarred by lightning. Other attacks follow, and Cillian notes the way that Navy summons swords with the same ease as the Harbinger could summon shadow. But that was for later consideration. All that mattered now was the boat.[break][break]

A great spout of water sprays up from the boat, alarming Cillian before he spies Marina at its center.[break][break]

Too soon, too close, he spies Kyogre as it's bulky figure brushes two of Lugia's glacial plates aside. Enraged as it was, there was no stopping it. The only hope was to slow it as much as they could.[break][break]

Like some eldritch horror from the deep, tentacles of shadow rise up from the ocean to curl around the Kyogre's large fins. It may be obvious that Cillian is the source, for he appears physically strained as the ocean titan bucks against his umbral hold. He shudders, giving Lugia's hide a grateful pat when she lets loose another barrage of ICY WINDS to further impede Kyogre's progress. He's too winded to thank her aloud, but he feels the vibration of her answering cry, a haunting song that echoes over the ocean.[break][break]

After precious seconds are bought, Cillian can hold on no more, and releases the hold with a shivering gasp.[break][break]

His eyes turn and behold Temp’s struggle, even as the Leviathan barrels down upon him. His body surges with strength. This is an impossible thing, what they attempt to do. Kyogre is coming for Sootopolis. There is little they can do to refute that fact.[break][break]

His sworn sword nods. Her blade surges with light. Ascalon was made for battles such as this, ones where that which truly matters in the world hangs in the balance. Her behemoth blade comes alive once more. She charges, and Hattori is at her side. She beheld his courage in the garden and knows that there are few Pokemon in the world, big or small, as strong in heart as the little frog. Beside her rushes no Greninja, but a roaring dragon.[break][break]
His aura grows, and grows, and grows. Hattori’s fist becomes the open maw of a roaring dragon. Behind him is its body, coiling and ready to deliver unto this god a reckoning. Hattori’s dragon hammer slams into Kyogre, backed up by shadow and by blade.[break][break]
His leal Lord turns his attention to other matters. The boat stabilizes in the water. Kyogre is coming. It’s fast approaching. Temp’s Pokemon have made this much easier. This is foolish, they would tell him. His enemies will know his tricks.[break][break]
So be it. He feels the metal on the bottom of the boat, using Temp’s Pokemon to keep the boat steady. It floats out of the water, slowly, surely, moving out of Kyogre’s path. It’s working. This boon born of his oath, which those of little imagination or romance would call avatarship, urges the people to safety…[break][break]
…which leaves him exposed to Kyogre. Grendel has a hole in his chest, placed there by an origin pulse. Its fury carries across the water, ripping the heart out of an old, old dragon.[break][break]
Navy does not sense anything is happening until he falls into the water. He does not feel fear until the water fills his lungs.
