Though it had been roughly an hour since the Beast had let himself into Kaname’s abode, Zev’s wait was about to finally be over. The sound of laughter and voices permeated through the door of his apartment.[break][break]

“Thank you, for walking me home Miguel.” Kaname offered a smile to the tall, dark haired man standing beside him. “It was nothing, really. I’d be more than happy to do it again.” He replied, taking Kaname’s hand in his. “Do you… want to come inside?” The scientist asked coyly, fishing for the keys to the door with his other hand. “I would love to.” Miguel said, beaming.[break][break]



Kaname let go of Miguel’s hand and fumbled around for the correct key before inserting it into the lock, unaware of what was lying in wait for him behind the door. “I promise to make you breakfast if you stay the night…”, he trailed off, turning the handle of the door to open it only to see one Zev Harcourt sitting in his office chair.[break][break]



Kaname’s heart leapt into his throat as he slammed the door shut and quickly turned to face Miguel. Why was Zev here? What did he want? How did he get in? Questions raced through Kaname’s mind.[break][break]



“You have to go! Now!” There was panic in his eyes as he urged the other man to go. “But we were just having a good time, what changed?” Miguel asked, seemingly irritated by the sudden change in plans. “My… husband! My husband is home!” Kaname shouted as he attempted to guide the other man away from his apartment. “My husband is home and if he sees you, he’ll go berserk! So, it was nice knowing you. Do not contact me again!” Once Kaname had gotten his date far enough away from the door, he darted back to the apartment and slipped inside; leaving poor Miguel confused and bewildered in the hallway.[break][break]



“What are you doing here?!” He hissed, making sure the door was locked. “Surely you have a good reason for ruining my night.” Kaname said, his face ever so slightly red as he stared down the Beast.[break][break]

Kaname wrung his hands together a bit, looking up at Jayden with nervous eyes. “I just mean- I mean that you should prioritize yourself and your safety. You don’t have to endure it all; not everything is water off a ducklet’s back.”[break][break]

Kaname didn’t know the context, he didn’t know how Jayden ended up with that bruise. In Kaname’s mind, it wasn’t the context that was important. It was the fact that Jayden, ever the stalwart man, would simply choose to endure whatever came his way. Resolved to never share the burden, never mind the consequences that came from carrying such a load.[break][break]

"..." Silence. A long stretch of silence followed after Jayden finished speaking. The weight of every word had hit Kaname like a ton of bricks. [break][break]

‘More than that, you are my friend Kaname. Of course I want you with me.’ [break][break]

It played on loop in his mind as he weighed out the cost of such a decision. To give up everything he had here, to go across the ocean to another region where he had no prospects? In exchange, he could possibly thrive there. There were endless possibilities for him in Hoenn. And of course there would be… Jayden. His friend. [break][break]

“Okay… I’ll go back with you.” Kaname paused and took a shaky breath. “How long do we have, I’d like to pack a few things.”

"Of course." Kaname paused to quickly clear his throat. "In short, I formed and sent a proposal to Head Scientist Naomi Sato , asking for resources to begin researching and studying the makeup and uses of grass and bug type pokemon products and byproducts; things like their pollen, mushrooms, spores, and powders. The idea behind it is that these pokemon types are common and readily accessible, on top of the fact that they produce a variety of useful compounds that we could research into further and expand upon their uses outside of treating them as mere weapons." [break][break]

The scientist paused momentarily to look back and ensure his Greedent was still dawdling along, and not being attacked by a sunbathing Arbok; he would turn back to Zev as they walked. "Ideally, this would lead to medical and warfare based advancements and thus create new financial opportunities for Team Rocket as well as bolster us in our fight against the League and allow me to expand my research into other types of Pokémon. Do you have any questions?"[break]

It was Kaname who made the first move toward the exit, a doorway at the end of what seemed to be an ever-stretching hallway in the stone complex. Kaname took only a few steps before the floor under them began to shift and crumble away, dropping the pair into a different kind of darkness.[break][break]

The scientist groaned softly, his back aching from the impact of hitting the stone floor below. "Are you okay?" Kaname asked, fumbling for the small flashlight he'd clipped to his belt before entering the simulation. "Got it..." the scientist muttered, igniting the small light and shining it around the hallway.[break][break]

Kaname shakily pulled himself to his feet and swung the light around, engravings of Unown lined the walls of the hallway. Ever curious, Kaname stepped forward to examine the engravings, running his hand over them as he read the passage on one of the walls. "'The more there is, the less you see'. What do you make of it?" He asked, looking back over his shoulder toward Zev's general direction.[break][break]

It’s just Kaname holding down the lab today, illeana reyes was neither present nor accounted for. The fact that she wasn’t here happened to suit Kaname just fine. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Illeana or enjoy being around her, on the contrary, he enjoyed her company a lot and he thought of her as an excellent boss. Those facts, as it turned out, made the guilt of what he was doing that much more palpable; it made the betrayal of trust and the trampling of their friendship all the more real.[break][break]



However, without her around, he needn’t worry about anything but himself; out of sight, out of mind as they say.[break][break]



It was supposed to be a quiet day, an easy day for Kaname. His list of tasks was small; do some routine cleaning & calibrations, stock some supplies, and write a few summaries. All simple things, mindless tasks that he could perform while silently collecting what data he could from old files and reports to send back to Team Rocket.[break][break]



It would’ve been a perfect day for Kaname Fujihara- would’ve been had he not spotted that man- Navy , smiling at him through the glass of the lab door. A grin that reminded him of the Seal Stone operation and that horrible Garchomp that nearly stole his life. If he hadn’t accidentally swiped on the man, he might’ve never been in this situation.[break][break]



The scientist swallowed hard, the color draining from his face as Navy closed in on him. “Are you sure you don’t want to wait for Dr. Morales or Dr. Reyes? I’m just a lab assistant, they’ll be better equipped than I to handle your information.” Kaname’s voice was tight as he spoke, his tone full of hesitation and agony. He felt like a rattata caught in a trap. The Sheriff of Dewford’s claws were in him and Kaname had no real choice but to comply with his requests, less things get ugly for him.[break][break]
