There was a certain amount of anxiety about being called to a superior’s office; doubly because it was Naomi Sato, a person Kaname desperately wanted to impress. Despite being in the science division, his contact with the Head Scientist had been less than he’d have liked.[break][break]

That was partly due to the fact he spent a good chunk of time in Ever Grande City, undercover and partly due to the fact that she was likely too busy to be running around among the average riff raff of the labs. Despite that, the two had still interacted to some degree; She had been on the mission to Lesser Megalopolis with him and been his evaluator in the SPECTRA trials, and of course there had been fleeting moments in the lab where they spoke.[break][break]

Kaname stopped abruptly in front of a door, Naomi Sato’s office door. He stared at the door for what seemed like minutes before mustering the courage to knock thrice on the door. “It’s Fujihara, ma’am.” He said, identifying himself as he waited for permission to enter.[break][break]

Kaname’s experience with dating apps had been rather hit or miss as of late. The majority of the men weren’t bad dates; they were either people he didn’t connect with or people who wanted to connect in other ways, which was completely fine. However, Kaname was looking for something with a little more substance and someone a little more aligned with his interests.[break][break]

It had been a pleasant surprise to find out that GIDEON GRAVES had swiped on him and there was a mutual interest. After a few rounds of texting, Kaname found himself intrigued by the museum director and accepted his invitation for a date. He was eager to meet Gideon and see how things would go; whether this would blossom into a new relationship or rot on the vine.[break][break]

The venue for their date tonight was an interesting one. The Halstead Gallery was an excellent choice for their first meeting, based on what Kaname had read about it online. The building itself was gorgeous inside and out, and he could hardly wait to admire the art within or stroll through the garden.[break][break]

He stood with Gideon, admiring the artwork before them. “I think they’re gorgeous, truly. I can’t quite place why the style of the paintings feels familiar, but I’m fond of it.” He paused to gesture at the painting of the Pikipeks. “I think the artist did an excellent job, the juxtaposition of the realistic flowers and stylized pokemon gives it, its own unique flare.”[break][break]

Having successfully captured the raging Elekid was a relief for Kaname, who walked over and picked the pokeball. "Better head back to the gate." He murmured, placing the pokeball in his bag; it had been a good trek through the Safari Zone. He'd caught several pokemon that might prove useful to him in the future.

Kaname was all set to head up the path to the exit, but the way was barred by the a small, fiery looking pokemon. A charcadet, a pokemon from the Paldea region... or at least he that's what he thought it was. "Hello there, little sentinel." He called to the Fire Child Pokemon, who only stared back with determination in his eyes. "I think you should... come home with me." The scientist said softly, producing a pokeball that he'd gently toss at the fire type, hoping to add it to his collection.

Kaname barely made it a few steps from the berry tree when all hell broke loose. An elekid rushed out from the bushes at the swarm of Ledyba, using Thunder Punch to scare off the swarm of bug types raiding his precious horde of berries. "Whoa!" Kaname shouted, backpedaling away from the swinging electric pokemon. Elekid continued it's Thunder Punching in a fit of rage; left with no choice, Kaname produced and threw a safari ball at the swing Elekid, hoping to capture it.

As Kaname walked through the forest, he happened upon a swarm of Ledyba surrounding a large berry tree. Each bug-type eagerly supped upon the berries, unaware of the man watching them chow down. "I think this won't serve me." He said decidedly, moving on from the swarm.

Kaname was sitting at a computer screen, reading and scrolling through documents he formerly had been unable to access. He was entranced by Team Rocket’s research and operations in Hoenn, fully immersing himself in the goings-on of the crime syndicate’s works within the region.[break][break]

All of this possible thanks to his elevation to Head Scientist by declan walsh , with backing from both jayden cross and Naomi Sato . The meeting with the Rocket Boss had filled him with fear that quickly melted away to gratitude, but it also meant he had to be on guard and work twice as hard to prove himself worthy of the position. That meant he had to be abreast of everything and be in the know; he couldn’t afford to look foolish in front of his peers.[break][break]

He continued to scroll and read as fast as he could comprehend, pouring over data and notes; totally unaware of one jayden cross entering his workspace.[break][break]

It was the familiar timbre of Jayden’s voice that pulled him from the edge of the information abyss, causing him to jump in seat.[break][break]

“Jayden you can’t just sneak up on people like that!” He chided, bringing a hand to chest as he issued forth a sigh. “Sorry…”, he paused and spun around in his chair to face the Admin. “Yes, congratulations are in order… thanks to you.” He said with a smile.[break][break]

“Thank you, for always taking care of me.” Kaname rises from his seat and reaches to grasp his friend’s hand with his own. “I will always appreciate what you do for me.” He said in a delicate whisper, letting go of Jayden’s hand just as quickly as he’d taken it.[break][break]

Knowing that Jayden would take care of things for him made the coming transition that much easier. With Jayden’s presence, there was nothing for Kaname to fear. The two of them, he thought, could take care of anything. Maybe anything was really possible when jayden cross was in his corner.[break][break]

His thoughts were interrupted by the mention of dinner which cascaded downward to the realization that he had yet to eat today.[break][break]

“Dinner sounds fantastic!” He chirped, pulling his lab coat off and laying it neatly on the back of his chair. “I know this seafood place nearby; let’s go celebrate our future journey across the sea!” He said, moving with purpose toward the door of the small lab and ushering his friend out, before locking the door behind them.[break][break]

Off to dinner and then off to new adventures, together.[break][break]

"Squid thing? Wait... he can't mean can he?" Kaname paused and stared at the pokeball, recalling his brief time in the Ultra Deep Sea and the horrors living within it. "I can't let this go." He murmured, minimizing the pokeball and sliding into the pocket of his lab coat. I'd be a fool to let this slip out of my hands; sorry illeana reyes , I've got to do this for me. I'll have to be sure to thank ollie morales when I see him in person.

The second zigzagoon promptly fled as its compatriot was captured. Kaname walked over and picked up the pokeball and stored it within his bag. Satisfied with his capture, he continued his walk through the woods, blissfully unaware of the small stream nearby that held a slumbering clamperl.

Trapped. Kaname Fujihara was trapped in something a little bigger than a broom closet with a man who must've figured it all out. Kaname can’t help but notice the pokeballs on his belt, too. Six pokeballs meant six different creatures, all of whom possessed a way to kill him horribly at any speed their owner could think of. Meanwhile, Kaname had one pokeball in his lab coat pocket; a Galarian Slowking, who might be able to take out one of the gym leader’s six before dying valiantly. [break][break]

‘Of course, this bastard is smiling.’ All the while, Kaname’s face is a dour inversion of Navy’s own smile. If the scientist could, he’d wipe that smile off the detective’s face; but he didn’t have that kind of power. In fact, he was powerless here; powerless to stop the other man from his internal monologue spilling over into the external world. Powerless to escape. Kaname Fujihara often felt powerless.[break][break]

“You don’t care how I’ve been…,” he began, his voice dripping with hostility. “What is it you want? You could’ve turned me in already and watched the police drag me from this building the moment you realized who I was; yet you haven’t. So, I’m guessing you want something, something from me or you just like to play with your prey before you pounce.”

Kaname exhaled softly, the prospect of a cave full of shiny rocks- be they tera crystals or not, was not a thrilling one to him. His expertise lay with living, breathing specimens… not whatever they were doing here, on Route 111. However, he had begrudgingly agreed to aid Xenon with her little project in hopes it set him up to get ahead. After all, the woman was most assuredly smart; she also just happened to have poor control of her mouth and possessed a tendency to inflate her sense of self beyond comparison.[break][break]

As Xenon spoke into her recording device, Kaname glanced over at the Medicham accompanying him. Silent and stalwart without being imposing; that was Bodhi. He was the perfect pokemon to serve as muscle for this mission, his other pokemon were more suited to serving as a secondary way to analyze whatever they came across.[break][break]

Kaname snapped his attention to Xenon as she spoke to him. “At risk of inflating your rather large ego; your hypothesis is interesting. If you can prove a correlation between the two separate halves, terastal crystals and interdream mist… Well, let’s say you’ll have earned the right to boast for a bit.” A smirk crept across his face; he couldn’t help but antagonize her a little.[break][break]
