As declan walsh spoke, Kaname listened intently. The mention of expanding their territory was a sound idea, and the mention of Mossdeep was intriguing. Even more intriguing was the revelation that the former Commissioner of the Hoenn League was, in fact, the Boss of Kanto’s Rocket. Kaname suppressed a chuckle, amused by the duplicity and sagacity of Ulysses Monroe. Meanwhile, the scientist’s Galarian Slowking began to mumble to himself, perturbed by the sudden drop in temperature in the already damp and cool cavern.[break][break]

Kaname gently tapped his fingers against the table top, listening to his colleagues speak. The cogs churned in his head as they discussed the possible territory acquisitions, a smile creeping onto his face. “Mossdeep is perhaps the most valuable target of the three mentioned by Admin Cross, at least in my opinion, Underboss Beckett. The research contained within would surely advance the science division by leaps and bounds. Not only that, we could begin production of spy satellites and then launch them using the Mossdeep Space Center, which would be very advantageous for any future operations and the intelligence department as a whole.” [break][break]

He paused and looked around the cavern at the assembled members of Team Rocket. [break][break]

“Dewford and the Rift there would be extremely valuable, yes, but it is much further away from Sootopolis than Mossdeep or Pacifidlog and we have to consider what we’re capable of actually reasonably able to defend. The logical choices are Pacifidlog or Mossdeep due to proximity, but if we go on value alone? Mossdeep, then Dewford, then Littleroot. Littleroot and its unusual energy source located beneath might prove useful, but it’s not a defensible location, in my opinion.” Kaname shifted in his seat, leaning back into the chair and crossing his arms. “I’ve managed to acquire a Nihilego by way of theft from the League labs, so if you’ve an interest in acquiring the venom of the creature. We can arrange that, Head Scientist Rose.” He said, glancing over at Amor Rose . [break][break]

“But that said, knowing that Beast Harcourt has a woman on the inside of Mossdeep only sweetens the pot for me. The acquisition of the Space Center’s data and facility is simply too good a chance to pass up for Team Rocket as a whole. Imagine what we could do if we awoke the frozen Deoxys? Perhaps we could coax the other out and have a pair, wouldn’t that be grand?”[break][break]

(TL;DR Mentions jayden cross ’s locations. Answers THEO BECKETT ’s question and really wants to go to the Space Center because it’s too good a deal to pass up. Says Dewford is too far to reasonably allocate resources and defenses too, same for Pacifidlog. Littleroot is interesting because of the energy source but isn’t worth it because of the location. Mentions using one Deoxys to get to the other, and that having a matching set would be nice. Teehee.)

Kaname adjusted his glasses before leveling a sharp look at Amor Rose . “You’ll just have to forgive Head Scientist Sato for not knowing. You see, she’s busy doing the utmost for the science division and furthering Team Rocket’s goals with her scientific advancements. I’m sure you understand that pointless fraternizing would be beneath her when there's an important breakthrough or discovery to be made; especially since you’ve just joined us and understand the importance of our various projects.”[break][break]

He offered Amor Rose a sickly sweet smile before glancing over at Naomi Sato . He knew she didn’t need him to fight her battles for her, but this was his way of apologizing for earlier. A show of loyalty for the woman who helped him get here.[break][break]

“Now then, on to your question… Getting to Maldacena by using the RKS system is not a possibility, for all intents and purposes it seems to be self-contained. So using it as a doorway is not an option.” Kaname leaned forward ever so slightly. “Now to the issue of Zapdos, if it is recharging and regrouping perhaps we could find a way to speed up the process and thus endear it to us further. oscar clayton left behind a machine that extracts infinity energy from Pokémon… perhaps we could use that to empower and persuade Zapdos?”[break][break]

(TL;DR Kaname gets snippy with Amor on behalf of Nomi. Answers the question about the RKS and posits a suggestion about Zapdos.)

The sudden Unown-N blipping into existence beside him was a startling experience for Kaname, who regarded the one-eyed pokemon cautiously. “Hello…,” he murmured, staring at it as it stared back at him with its unblinking eye. As quickly as the pokemon came, it just as winked out of existence and went who knows where.[break][break]

“That was strange…” The Unown were always strange. No matter how many times he saw them congregating around Naomii, he could not get used to them. They were unnerving, inscrutable beings.[break][break]

It was the sound of her voice that prompted to slowly open the door, peaking in to see the head scientist ushering him to have a seat. He slipped into her office and shut the door behind him, taking a seat across from her at the desk.[break][break]

“You wanted to see me, ma’am?” He asked curiously, looking at the strange sphere she held.

Kaname glanced around the table, eyes settling on his fellow Head Scientist Naomi Sato who subsequently indicated he needed to get his head out of his ass and do better. This made Kaname swallow hard, realizing that he had been acting a fool. He nodded at his compatriot as if to say he understood and would do better.[break][break]

The appearance of declan walsh was somewhat startling to the newest head scientist, not expecting the Rocket Boss to emerge from an inky mass of darkness. Kaname inclined his head toward his superior, listening attentively as he spoke.[break][break]

Kanto? Kanto wanted to hear from them? How interesting. Something must be afoot, then.[break][break]

It was jayden cross who began, talking of the League and of Matias Silph. Kaname nodded along, listening to the Admin. While he did agree that the League and their wild dog were a problem, there were yet still other pressing issues to discuss. Naomi Sato made a good point too, the agents of Arceus— the Dark Triad posed a great threat to ALL of Hoenn, thus to the plans the criminal syndicate had for the region. It was Underboss Cillian Quinn who Kaname agreed the most with, these were both worthy threats to be concerned with.[break][break]

As the others weighed in, offering opinions and insight, Kaname folded his hands neatly on the table and leaned forward, listening intently to the conversation going on around him and waiting for the right moment to interject.[break][break]

When Underboss Elisabeth Fiorelli finished, Kaname took the opportunity and began to speak.[break][break]

“Firstly, I would like to begin by saying I do not think anyone is outwardly wrong for what they have said thus far, I just have concerns.” He paused, sitting back in his chair and adjusting his glasses. “However, I think this needs to be said… It’s hubris to think any of us are truly capable of completely controlling these gods and monsters who bestow their patronage upon us.” He said, glancing between Naomi Sato and Zev Harcourt . “Who are we, to them? We are pieces on their board and we haven’t the slightest clue as to the game they're playing. At best, we can align our interests with theirs and hope that they return the favor. But we should NEVER expect to be the one moving the pieces.”[break][break]

He paused momentarily to clear his throat.[break][break]

“With that said, I concur that both the Dark Triad and the League are perhaps our greatest threats. I am not sure if you’re aware but during my brief stint as an undercover agent within the League, I saw many things… including that the League is in possession of the legendary Pokémon, Mew. They have more resources and more allies than we do.” Kaname takes a moment to gesture at Elisabeth Fiorelli . “If what has been said is true, I think pursuing a relationship with this Maldacena is not a bad idea and could aid us on all fronts, perhaps including a way to track or predict the movements of the Dark Triad, which would make combating them infinitely easier. Essentially, I'm advocating that we don't throw all our eggs in one singular basket but focus on how to handle both.”

+ TL;DR: Kaname speaks up and thinks everyone has said good things, HOWEVER no one here is a god (looking at you Zev Harcourt ) and thinks everyone should recognize that. Also thinks the League might have us outgunned in terms of resources and allies. Making allies with Maldacena might not be a bad idea. Basically don't throw all the eggs into one basket.[break]

Kaname wanted to go on the offensive, to bite back at fern delaney but was cut short as Underboss THEO BECKETT entered and immediately admonished their petty little squabble. Then Underboss Cillian Quinn followed that up with a reminder to “control themselves”... So the head scientist bites his tongue, content to let the feelings fester for now as Theo serves to literally separate the two men by sitting between them. The degrees of separation between himself and Jayden would only serve to stoke the grudge he had against Fern as Kaname was relegated to the other end of the table. [break][break]

Kaname had a front row seat to Elisabeth Fiorelli ’s display of her own personal power; the slow, mocking applause followed by venomous words directed at Underboss Beckett and another person he’d never heard of. The biting wit and her lack of inhibitions made her more powerful than any avatar; after all, she clearly wasn’t afraid to put it all on the line or admonish what she thought was foolish. Kaname envied the woman for that, for wielding her own power, unafraid of the consequences. [break][break]

Kaname glanced to the left, to gaze at the Pokémon accompanying Underboss Fiorelli. He studied it for a brief minute, half listening to mint frost congratulate him on his appointment. “Thank you.” He said in a half-hearted reply, focused on the grudge-bearing beast. It was the words of BARNABY FINCH that drew his attention. “No. Not the best terms.” He replied idly, shifting his attention to the Admin. He had started to settle into his chair and relax when Barnaby asked him the question to end all questions and his face instantly tightened. [break][break]

There was a rush of disgust as he thought of why Fern Delaney bothered him so much. It was childish, petty even… but the grudge boiled to the surface without much warning or care, thanks to the subtle influence of Elisabeth’s patron. “They have something they don’t deserve.” A hasty response given in a hushed tone as Kaname cast a wanting glance toward the reason for all these feelings in the first place: jayden cross [break][break]

Kaname softly smiled, amused by Underboss Elisabeth Fiorelli ’s remark. He had intended to respond to the Underboss when they caught his eye, it was Admin fern delaney accompanied by an unusually colored Tapu Koko. Kaname’s expression tightened instantly as he watched the forger make their way over; silently wishing he’d taken a seat on the other side of the table.[break][break]

Despite the tightened facial expression, Kaname did his utmost to remain poised and calm, going as far as to even offer a smile; even as feelings of envy, resentment, and disdain blossomed into reality with the Admin’s indifferent greeting. “Admin Delaney, good evening. I hope you are well.” Kaname said, his tone measured and formal. “I must say, that’s an unusual looking Pokémon accompanying you. What is it?” Kaname was certain he already knew the answer to the question, but he couldn’t help himself. He wanted Fern to say it.[break][break]

“I like to think it’s an interesting idea.” He responded, watching a wild Swalot struggle to reach a branch laden with berries. Meanwhile, the scientist's Greedent happily continued to munch on his store of berries. “I think if we’re going to continue these skirmishes with the League, and we will, we need to open other avenues of attack.”[break][break]

Kaname paused for a moment, watching the Espeon expertly catch the cutiefly and bring it to his master. “I can’t say I’ve done either, is there a particular reason you mention them? Do you think they’d be able to contribute something of worth to my little project?”

The world shifted and changed once more, what was once a ruin was now a view of devastation. Flames were scorching the land as the earth groaned and split; conflict raged on down below as well. Kaname could see the people clashing down below, they looked like ants from this high up.[break][break]

It was the voice of another man that pulled his focus away from the conflict and devastation occuring on the lands below. He did not recognize the man, but based on his line of questioning, Kaname had to guess that he was some sort of guardian or protector of wherever they were.[break][break]

The scientist did not immediately answer the man, instead he looked toward Zev. He was curious to see how the Beast would choose to handle this potential threat and equally ready to back the man up to the best of his meek ability if he chose to pick a fight with the Kindler.

“Right, just a dream or a trick.” Kaname readily admitted defeat here, now wasn’t the time or place to pick a fight about the life they may or may not have had, especially since Zev sounded so certain. So he took the letter and placed it back in the drawer and took the envelope as soon as it was offered to him.[break][break]

He carefully opened the envelope and pulled out the photos inside, and slowly he went through them as Zev spoke. “These were in Lesser Megalopolis?” His brow arched in suprise and there was a look of recognition on Kaname’s face as he continued studying the photos. “This is- it’s exactly as I remember it.” The prophecy, the tapestry… These fragments of memory returned so readily. “It feels so far away, but yes, it’s very similar to the tapestry that hung in the vault.” The vault within our shared dream was what he wanted to say.[break][break]

“But why were these etchings in Lesser Megalopolis when the tapestry was elsewhere?” He pondered aloud; his curious gaze now fixed on the Beast, as if he would have the answers.[break][break]

“I- Never mind. Forget I said anything.” He offered the Admin a reassuring smile and a soft chuckle. Though he may have missed the point, Jayden’s mildly obtuse nature never failed to amuse him. He was funny that way, just one of the many things Kaname enjoyed about his friend that made him so endearing.[break][break]

As soon as the bottle is handed to him, Kaname peels back the silver wrapping to reveal the labeling underneath. Imported kantonian wine, a good vintage by the looks of it. “Jayden, you really didn’t have to get me such a nice gift. But thank you, for thinking of me and doing what you did. It means the world to me.” He said, taking the wrapping and bottle and placing them on his desk. “You’ll have to have a glass with me sometime, to celebrate. And I won’t take no for an answer!”[break][break]

As Jayden bent down to read over his shoulder, Kaname saw them, the bruises. His smile faded into a look of concern. “Jayden…” The scientist began, shifting in his chair to get a better look at the bruises dotting his friend’s face. “Who did this to you?” He murmured, reaching out to gingerly stroke Jayden's face.

That strong hand on his shoulder feels anything but friendly. It is a chain, being placed around his body; a reminder of who is predator and who is prey in this situation. They were anything but friends.[break][break]

Kaname listens to the Sheriff of Dewford prattle on. He may not have liked it, but the gym leader’s words were the truth. Rocket would have another rat somewhere in the science division as fast as they could. He was replaceable, expendable even, and they both knew it. So what was the point of not having him arrested? Kaname’s grey eyes narrowed, a flash of curiosity present as the pair locked eyes for a moment.[break][break]

There was a moment of silence as Kaname processed what the gym leader said. An arrangment? The gym leader didn’t strike him as the type to climb into bed with the enemy, he wasn’t a crooked cop. No… this wasn’t going to be a quid pro quo kind of thing. Kaname grimaced and glanced down at the pokeballs hanging from the man’s belt.[break][break]

This was extortion at its finest. He couldn’t refuse the gym leader’s request to come to an arrangement, unless he wanted to end up like his mienfoo.[break][break]

“What sort of… arrangement are you looking for?” His face softened as the man gave him a little space. A little breathing room. “I could be amenable to certain things.”[break][break]

The veil of darkness parts once more, permitting Kaname entrance to the esteemed Cave of Origin, accompanied by a Galarian Slowking. The pair only managed a few steps into the cavern when pressure exerted by Lugia hit Kaname; the weight of it was unlike anything he’d felt before. It was the gentle elbowing by his Slowking that pulled Kaname back to reality.[break][break]

“Right.” He murmured and made his way to the conference table, choosing to sit on the same side as jayden cross, only a few chairs away from his old friend. “Good evening, everyone.” He offers a polite smile to accompany his greeting; meanwhile, his Galarian Slowking stood quietly off to the side, a silent observer to the machinations of Team Rocket’s upper echelon.[break][break]

Kaname relaxes into the chair, gazing quietly around the room. The Cave of Origin… the mythologized point where life supposedly began. It was an interesting choice of meeting place, but surely declan walsh had his reasons for using it as such. He sighed softly and folded his hands in his lap, content to wait in silence for the others to arrive.[break][break]

Kaname took a deep inhale, letting Zev’s words hit him and fall like water off a ducklet’s back and then exhaled. He wanted to be angry with the assassin, to shout at him for violating the sanctity of his privacy and home. However, he could not risk the repercussions of doing so and on top of that, he wasn’t sure how Zev would react if he did let loose.[break][break]

In the end, it was better for Kaname to bury it all for now and deal with it later.[break][break]

He watched as Zev pulled a large white envelope from his inner jacket pocket. The scientist stared curiously at the envelope for a few moments before turning his gaze onto the speaking Beast. [break][break]

The fight at the Ancient Tomb had been interesting for Kaname, the aftermath even more so. Waking up on the battlefield, no longer covered underneath mounds of snow and ice all the while remembering a dream life that was and was not his.[break][break]

“I remember things, things I think did happen, like a surreal dream. Normally I would call it nothing more than a pokemon’s trick, but…”, he paused and walked over to the oaken desk and began to rifle through the drawers until he found it. “I have this.” He said, holding up a folded piece of faded parchment. “It’s one of what I imagine were countless letters.” Kaname looked sullenly at the letter, running his fingertips over it and thinking of Alba Evovae and the dream that was.[break][break]
