"yeah, that tracks. usually happens that i'm right at the worst of times..." memphis mumbles, mostly to himself, as he watches the specters beginning to form and go for angelo's body. or more like, whatever angelo's body is holding.[break][break]

and then he looks to his own and he wonders, can i move my body? could i somehow help mr. vestri out by moving my body?[break][break]

but before he can really move toward his body to try and help, a specter beats him to it.[break][break]

"um..." and his body is no longer his own, some other spirit within it. "um, hey—"[break][break]

there's an uncharacteristic stern tone to his voice. one that is due to the panic moving through his spirit in waves. he can feel it in his core, in the pit of his soul. it's confirmed when his body's eyes open.[break][break]

"somebody's in my body!"

memphis relaxes, not realizing just how tense he was before he does relax. his eyes follow cygne and then his body slowly follows behind that. he's following her, she's become her leader, and she probably doesn't even know it.[break][break]

"well if you count our pokémon it's like, ten eyes are better than six, right?"[break][break]

did he do that quick math right? if not, how embarrassing. he doesn't harp on it though.[break][break]

"so how'd you hear about the crystals here? i heard about it through online threads, mostly."[break][break]

mink and falkor follow behind. when memphis loses his footing, falkor puts his head up for memphis to step on. he gets a smile of gratitude and a pat once they're level again.

angelo vestri is so far ahead of them, likely already at the seal. the seal that memphis wants to see for himself. after seeing emerson whitlock try and get the camera covered before going through, memphis watches the chip back curiously before reaching to grab it, shaking the water from it.[break][break]

littering is bad. worse when it's in a spiritual domain where you can potentially piss off powerful pokémon.[break][break]

and what's more, y'know what he shouldn't do?[break][break]

he absolutely should not walk through that water. the very one he touched to get the dorito bag.[break][break]

it makes his skin crawl in protest just looking at it. but he figures perhaps that's just his own paranoia talking; he's got a lot of paranoia, after all.[break][break]

it's just a waterfall. he tells himself silently as he braces with a deep breath and follows just behind emerson whitlock into the cold.[break][break]

after exiting to the other side, there's a small dance that commences as he holds him self and his teeth chatter.[break][break]

"so much colder than i thought it would be! oh my gods!"[break][break]

his dance stops, his body frozen, as he looks down to see angelo's body not moving. he wondered why.[break][break]

"...mr. ves—"[break][break]

his words die in his throat as he feels like the wind is knocked out of his brain, if that is even possible. his spirit exits his own body and suddenly there are two angelos. and two memphis'. he looks at his hands, blinking curiously.[break][break]

"what's happening?" his voice echos ominously into the spirit realm.

to him, that is a tough question to answer, because on one hand he was sent out but on the other he is gladly doing the task. so he hesitates, but eventually responds with, "kinda both?"[break][break]

the duskull is pushed toward him but he simply catches the poor thing, best as he can, and tries to help it right itself. for one, the little ghoul should freak him out. being that he was raised in a more religious setting and ghost pokémon, along with dark pokémon, aren't well recieved in the sermons his father preaches.[break][break]

but looking at this trainer and her duskull? how can he deny that perhaps ghost pokémon aren't evil after all? not all, anyway.[break][break]

"i heard that there are tera crystals on this mountain so i've come to take a peek and see if i can nab one. what about you?"

well, you know what they say. what you have and what you want are never the same thing, right?[break][break]

memphis watches with intrigue as the two inspect the waterfall. there's a glint in angelo vestri's eyes that makes memphis nearly skip forward, as if he's not tired anymore. the way the waterfall presents itself reminds him of a few myths and theories his father used to tell him.[break][break]

"deep and wide..." he realizes only after a few moments that what he said and the thought process that led him there wasn't shared.[break][break]

"my father once did a sermon on the theroy that one's spirit and one's body could be separated. there's a myth that follows his theory, i read it in a book not long after his sermon."[break][break]

memphis rattles off, not thinking much of it.[break][break]

"cascades of truth shall wash over those who dare to approach that which remains sealed. beware, weary traveler, that you enter a test without realization and thus unprepared."[break][break]

[attr="class","memphis-banner-cred-right-1"]memphis looks ahead where frank is pointing, toward the town. they are close, very close. close enough that memphis feels a little more relaxed, having been worried they might not make it the whole way.

but frank helps him feel more confident and it shows in how his shoulders relax. "yeah, actually. i could use a bite."

agreeing to the meal didn't seem odd. friends invite friends to things all the time in memphis' eyes. he thinks nothing of it, at all. though the porygon that comes whining out of the bushes after the xatu is concerning.

"oh!" memphis nearly doesn't have time to dodge before falkor can shoot it down with a dragon pulse. the move has memphis' eyes blinking twice before he smiles at falkor and tosses his own ball at the porygon.

"thanks falkor." he glances back at ann, who is toddling toward the town happily. "and thanks, frank."

turning to who he considers a new friend, he gives mink a few scratches. "i think we'll take you up on food, yeah. if you don't mind the company."

"nothing wrong with being a numbers guy. i knew a numbers guy once," he tries to hold back his smile. "but he was always trying to one up me."

maybe it's a math joke, maybe memphis is a joke. he laughs at his own silliness anyway, the watches as a hatenna comes barreling out of the bushes. memphis almost feels bad, until a farigiraf comes barreling out, attempting to astonish the little thing.[break][break]

falkor cuts in, using a dragon pulse to stop the giraffe in its steps. memphis idly tosses a ball at the thing, worried that falkor might've ko'd the poor thing.

"man, i always forget how aggressive wild pokémon can be out here."

[attr="class","memphis-banner-cred-right-1"]watching the woman leap over something and plop her way down to him has memphis a little more on edge. she confessed to nearly accidentally killing him. he even glances back to see what she means, then realizes yeah it could have hit him, and looks to his minccino.

"that definitely was closer than i thought."

falkor, his drampa, rests beside him and watches the girl put her hand out. he turns his head up to see the mountain, looking for the crystals they came looking for.

"oh," memphis takes her hand eagerly. "my name is memphis. nice to meet you cygne."

even if she nearly killed him with a rock. he watches the ghosts floating around her and smiles.

"the red one's shiny, right? i've never seen a shiny in real life before." phone video? sure. but not like this.

"me? no no, i'm here cause i had time. we were on the beach and people were asking for help picking up so, i thought, why not y'know?"

after all, to memphis, being a good person comes naturally. as naturally to him as breathing.

"wow, really? you've been here longer than me, at any rate."

and with a name like that, memphis wonders if the other is from a place like ecruteak city over in johto. perhaps that was regionist of him, whoops.

"i just moved here from sinnoh."

more like was forced here from sinnoh, he thinks, but the cold thought is not shown in his expression or tone.

"oh my gods that would be great if you would."

then they're talking about graves and he nods, eagerly, and smiles down at oleg as he rejoices.

"mink here is an expert at keeping her own tail clean, so she likes to clean other things to be just as tidy and well kept as her tail."

mink presses out her chest to agree, nodding, puffing out proud little white clouds through her nose in triumph. this causes memphis to laugh, giving her scratches which she eats up immediately.

he turns and starts toward the exhibit. though, it is a walk, so memphis has to make a bit of idle chatter so they don't get bored. bored = bad report which also = memphis getting a possible scolding.

"what in particular interests you in this exhibit, mr. black?"

it's a valid question. some yearn for answers, others for proof, and some just come for leisure. he wonders to which path gabe fancies himself this day.

he has only ever heard rumors of these places through the world wide web. but experiencing it up close? it’s wild, it’s bizarre, and it makes memphis wanna puke just a little bit.

luckily he’s able to keep his lunch down and his negative thoughts are kept caged behind polite smiles and false happiness.

”oh good!” he lets out a small laugh. ”because um, i think my legs might be turning into jelly mr. vestri.”

hopefully GIDEON GRAVES doesn’t think him some kinda lightweight for not being as physically fit or able as angelo is. he glances back to look at their other adventurer, to see how they’re fairing.
